Fifth Remix Tournament

Recommended Posts

The Remix Tournament is once again here. Normally Jssf hosts these, but this time around I'm hosting. I don't plan on doing anything different to usual, though. For those who are regulars to this event, hopefully it's been the correct amount of time since the last one. Also yes, I put the number of this tournament in the title, because otherwise I'm actually gonna lose count of these.

For anyone who doesn't know about these, here's how it works:

-Everyone will PM me three Touhou remixes. We usually use Youtube links for these.

-Then, I will post three of these from different participants on here.

-Then everyone rates the songs and can give their opinion on them. We usually rate them out of 10, but since I can compile the scores into percentages at the end it doesn't matter too much. Whether or not you choose to rate your own songs is up to you, but be aware your ratings of your own songs don't count. It's more about sharing the music, anyway.

-Once everyone has done this, I post another three songs, and we repeat the process until I've gone through all of the remixes I received.

-At the end, I put all of the scores into a magic cauldron and we see which songs were most popular!

As I am the host, I don't make any ratings, since I am technically not a participant. However, that's not to say I can't submit my own remixes...

Sign-ups will last one week, so just drop a reply in this thread if you're interested, and then PM me your three remixes of choice!

Hmm, this got pushed off the bottom pretty fast. Don't mind me, just making this post to keep the topic visible on the main page while we're still waiting for participants.

Oh, and since Dana recently dropped by: @Dana Iclucia

An obligatory reminder that this is open to anybody with even a slighter interest in Touhou remixes! While there is a bit of a time commitment, it does not need to be anything more than listening through each round's submissions and leaving a rating; anything further is optional (though still worth some consideration, imo).

Ok, it's time to get this started.

First off is a piano remix of Green Eyed Jealousy. Sadly nicovideo doesn't embed, so you'll have to click through the link.

https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm38542185

Second is some chillout metal.

...hang on, what?

Thirdly, a techno remix of Nuclear Fusion, with vocals.

im puting this in spoiler because i don't wanna scroll a lot when i back here few months later
i recommend y'all should too.

Spoiler

1. Piano Concerto No 666 - Jealousy Fire

Incognito 100
image.png.14dd5c8ded05c50d4cd6934f72e1d104.png

👍 Ken

was afraid this gonna be a plain piano.. but not!

im in storytelling mood rn, use yer imagination a bit

0:00 slow start yeah
I think of that introduction scene where book opens on it's own
like in disney movies or sumthin
"hey come here for a moment, sit down and spare some time with me"

0:16 and nice buildup
"Behold this story that I brought to you, a story about a princess love, struggle through grief and malice!"

0:30
I think of this where the story begins
where everything still comfort and peaceful

0:52
the lover never came back
doubts appears
heartbeat increasing
she's in search of his beloved

1:05 the climax
where she finds that she's been betrayed
devastated, rejection, sadness, grief
*breakdown*

1:19 where she engulfed by hatred and ressentiment
despair, anger, revenge

(hoping the percussion would be a bit more powerful.
and the crash cymbal is a bit too much for me, yes it's fitting but.. because less audible drums it ain't at full potential.)

1:45 she has achieved her goals
but it's too late... she has been the very embodiment of jealousy.

(the drums is nice in this part)

1:55 how will the story goes from here?
well.. it's a story for another time.

unrelated but Parsee is my top 1, not because her theme tho.
7/10

2. Apparitions Stalk the Night
Holyshit 2005 (or end of 2005)
this album btw, track 11 https://thwiki.cc/東方小曲集_-唯我独尊-

dont think this garison, so busker then.

i can only storytell with orchestral stuff, so not this one.... but i can vibe.

the mix and transision is pretty nice ngl
could use a better guitar sample, or i just have problems with that kind of guitar.
yeah seems fitting, just me then. that'll do just fine.

more like a rock than a metal though. idk i think metal is a bit heavier.

and fadeout! amazing i love NO.

unrelated but it's amazing they took 8 years hiatus and came back

8.5/10

3. No more reason
everyone here been prying on bzb channel eh?

probably jssf or garison

im outta comments from writing previous 2 song

but y'all kow how i usually go with electro

0:00 nice opening, usually in every nuke fusion song lol.
i usually prefer hardcore than usual electro, so this nice.

sadly i dont feel any attachment to 0:33-1:06
although... it's necessary for the next part...

1:06 sounds nice, the bopping is back so im happy

and the whole remaining part is basically like those above so can comment no more.

seems like i mostly dont like the slow part of any upbeat song, probably not just electro but most upbeat is electro 🤔 idk it just not impactful or something

1: Xe - Piano Concerto No 666 ~ Jealousy Fire
"We usually use Youtube links," he says . . .

First things first: To the one who took the video from Youtube, created a Nicovideo account, and reposted the video there just for this joke, Discount-HolmesTM knows who you are, and I could not be more impressed at the sheer trolly genius at play.

Now for the music. While a bit chaotic near the beginning, it quickly balances out into a very impressive piano concerto. Something about it doesn't seem quite classical, yet neither does it strike me as modern. The integration of the source motif is handled excellently, having enough restraint at the beginning to give its eventual appearance a more climactic effect. Its conclusion is open-ended, which puts me in mind to the introductory piece of an orchestral performance, which makes it quite fitting as the first piece of our tournament. Overall, we're off to a strong start. 9/10 8/10 I already know I'm going to regret starting with such a high score.

2: XL Project - Apparitions Stalk the Night ~MintJam Mix~
A strong start, indeed!

The beginning of this piece reminds me of old-era bands I grew up listening to, like East to West or PFR. So from that experience, it feels to me like an older style of metal. The arrangement is handled exactly how I'd expect an ideal Apparitions remix to be done, where the signature motif is highlighted with surrounding improvisation, thus capitalizing on the original theme's strengths. Beyond that, the sound quality and balance of the instruments involved is noteworthy, and does a lot to enhance the presentation. My one complaint would be the fade-out ending, although that too is reminiscent to me of older metal. 9/10 8/10

3: OTOMEKAN - No more reason
Elusive lyrics. :(

The original Nuclear Fusion, similarly with Suwa Foughten Field or Cosmic Mind, has a problem with integral progression (which is just what I'm calling it); each section/part/sub-motif (can you tell I don't really know what I'm talking about?) is semi-distinct from the one it follows and the one it precedes. While good transitions preserve the progression of the theme as a whole, a lot of momentum is lost each time the motif changes. Ideally, each change should feel like a buildup from the previous part up until the climax, from which the piece descends back to its foundations (and, for a looping piece, begins the process again).

This arrangement accomplishes what I've desired for the theme since I first heard it, and I believe it does so through the vocal performance. By constructing this as a standard pop song (verse, bridge, chorus, etc.), the artists have revitalized the support motifs to continually build up toward the primary motif. But most importantly for me, they fix the original theme's greatest weakness, that being the transition from the climax for the loop, simply by adding an extended tonic note over the signature intro.

In conclusion, I'm very impressed with this arrangement, and just a bit intimidated by the overarching quality of the first round. 9/10 8/10

Well, thanks to the others posting the name, I believe I found the first one on Youtube.  So I'm good.

Jealousy Fire:

Spoiler

Hmm, a rather intense arrangement of Green-eyed Jealousy?  Yes please.  The piano taking center for such a fast-paced piece is interesting, though I do think there are a few parts where the pace of the piece leads to a messy sound.  There's a nice start, a quick build up followed by a slightly more calm phrase, then right into an escalating intensity.  Sadly, the escalation feels like it loses control before it backs.  It may have been intentional, but it feels like a let-down.

7.5/10

Apparitions stalk the Night:

Spoiler

Well this is different.  I would definitely lean more toward 'chill' than 'metal'.  Not sure where 'chillout metal' comes from, unless someone thinks an electric guitar makes something 'metal' . . . anyway there's really an interesting effect here.  Despite the . . . sharpness of the electric guitar, the pace is consistent throughout, making for a sort of calming, but driving piece.  Since the piece doesn't intensify, the established mood of the opening notes don't fade.

8/10

Nuclear Fusion

Spoiler

Nuclear Fusion remixs are usually really good or just meh.  Honestly I would call this the second.  The piece is well-performed but doesn't really seem to go anywhere, I both want the piece to get on with and wonder why it's over already when it ends.  It's a little hard for me to pin down just why it feels this way, outside of maybe a slight disconnect between the vocals and instrumentation . . .

1. pretty neat i expected it to be just another calm piano arrange but it took me by surprise a little overall it's decent enough and quite fast paced for piano arrangement still a piano/orchestra in most cases ain't my thing so it gets only

6.5/10

2. huh, since when chillout + metal is even a thing? Regardless it's pretty unique pick maybe not exactly what i want to hear but it's not bad either and i also like Apparitions Stalk quite a lot so a little bit higher than first one, but not much

7/10

3. whoever picked this hit right into my zone (who even expected that lmao) OTOMEKAN is really great (and underrated) circle i like nuclear fusion theme, i like Renna vocals, i really like that solo starting at 2:31 as well (a bit too short tho) really reminds me a Psychic Temptation produced by OTOMEKAN as well (which is actually better imho)

Ah, this is cool. Too bad I missed the sign-up cutoff, but these remixes are pretty fire already. I'll enjoy listening.

The OTOMEKAN one reminded me of the mix for the Hell of Blazing Fires course in Gensou Skydrift. It does feel a bit background-ish...

Jealousy Fire

Spoiler

A fun and bombastic listen, but this arrangement loses something of the melodic quality that I like about the original version of Green-Eyed Jealousy. I like that it's full piano, though. As much as I enjoy ZUNpets, the piano is my first love as instruments go.

Rating: 6/10

Apparitions Stalk the Night

Spoiler

Very melodic and with tasteful instrumentation. I could really go for a lofi version of this. Apparitions isn't one of my favorite tunes on the merits of the original version, but it has so much potential for remixing--my favorite non-Demetori mix is one.

Quite chill, although I wish it had a proper ending rather than a fade-out. Fade-outs tend to leave me unsatisfied on some level.

Rating: 7.2/10

Nuclear Fusion

Spoiler

As I mentioned above, it reminds me very much of the Hell of Blazing Fires course BGM in Gensou Skydrift, if a bit more techno. (The opening especially.) Vocals are above average for Touhou fan songs. Unfortunately, there isn't much buildup on the vocal side of things. Nuclear Fusion doesn't have a bridge section like some other songs, just A and B sections. The vocal melody is also fairly repetitive and doesn't try anything particularly interesting.

Rating: 5.8/10 (Okay to listen to, but better as BGM than by itself.)

 Introduction

Spoiler

Guess it’s about time I finally revealed myself, huh? It was secretly my master plan to not post my review until the very end, so I could see everyone else’s posts already. Secretly my ultimate scheme to purposely stall the competition so that more people could join and we wouldn’t rush through reviews to quickly. It was all pre-ordained! Predestined! Fate! And not just because I was busy or something.

1) Green Sleeved Jealousy

Spoiler

Time for a classic play by play look at this!

0:00 Solemn part before the storm.

0:16 Where things really pick up.

0:23 Bit of orchestra instruments in here, so not completely piano.

0:31 Back to normal with the iconic melody.

0:52 Really love how it mixes the orchestra into this part. The cymbals also give it this hard hitting       oomph.

1:07 My favourite part of the song. More cymbals too.

1:29 Ok that is… a lot of cymbals. Not sure how I feel about that many cymbals being used, but, it’s at least adding to the intensity, so I can kind of respect it. But it being used so repetitively here makes it feel less organic and more like a soundfont that they just timed on every quarter beat.

1:56 Calming part. I’m glad it ending solemny, to reflect how it began solemny too

Considering its short length and fast piano, it reminds me of a Deemo song, like the ones shown in the Musical Discoveries thread a while back. Personally, I like how it does a lot with a short length. Any shorter and it’ll feel incomplete. It’s like how if you go to Paris and they serve you the fancy food, they only give you small bite sized portion. That’s what I feel from this piece. Oftentimes, you’ll go search up these whole hours long piano medleys and orchestras which, while good in their own right, I tend to forget how the individual tracks sound from each other.

In general, I feel Parsee fits that classical theme very well. Green Eyed Jealousy’s melody reminds me a lot of the traditional English folk piano song “Greensleeves”. (And it’s not just the “green” part). In fact, someone’s actually done a remix and put them together!

While I would give this a perfect score, I’ll have to deduct points for the absurd number of cymbals at the end. And the fact that some of the notes blend in too much with each other which makes it sound chaotic and mished mashed.

8/10

2) Apparitions Stalk the Night

Spoiler

0:05 I love that guitar in the back! The techno rhythm, the beats. It all feels really fresh and different. Usually when I hear guitar, it’s heavy in-your-face intense symphonic metal or rock guitar. So this is definitely a nice new take from it. The build up really complements

0:46 Oh man, this really reminds me of a Castlevania song, specifically the Touhou-styled remake ones “Koumajou Densetsu”. Fitting that it’s EoSD!

1:18 I really like how the bridge sounds here with the improvised guitar riffs in the back. It’s like your just having a jam sessions with your friends, and you have the guitar guy sitting in the back on the couch and just going ham with the strings.

2:02 Alright, back to the Castlevania part. Even though it’s the same as the 0:46 part before, because of the unique instruments, it still sounds refreshing to listen to.

2:31 Yoooo nice. It’s like the bridge from before, but different riffs and more intensity.

2:50 Ouch. I’m not a fan of the fade here. Like, the guitar’s still going, but the editor just had the track slowly fade into silence. Obviously, better than it just cutting out mid way through, but I’d prefer if the guitar ended rhythm piece it was doing so it’d feel more natural and less artificially cut. But honestly, that’s a minor nitpick because I’m rating this a

10/10

3) Nuclear Fusion

Spoiler

Okuu

11/10

Ok, Okuu bias aside, the cover art they use for this track is one of my most favourite Utsuho pics of all time. Instantly recognized it when I saw it. The lighting, the pose, it all feels so dynamic and in action and… well I guess this isn’t really an art review now is it? Well… onto the music!

0:00 Ok wow. Very heavy dubstep. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is what Dana meant when they said they were going ham with their submissions XD.

0:12 Nice. That iconic Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom opening. Instrument choice really fits that powerful, yet technological

0:33 I like how the singer is not doing vocals exactly to the rhythm, but instead on the semi beats. Helps it stand out from the countless other vocal remixes. The instruments in the back remind of the remix that Minus-T used in their animation of Utsuho vs Marisa. (And technically the Legacy XP mod trailer).

0:55 The voice box effect here sounds nice. It’s like, your in a nuclear power plant that’s about to blow up, and you hear a warning blaring on the speaker saying that you need to evacuate because everything’s gonna blow up. … Ok maybe that concept in my head is inspired partially from Lyrica Live’s interpretation of the song, but let me have my headcanons lol.

1:05 Higher pitched vocals here. Again, not exactly going to the main melody rhythm, which is good, because the main melody can be so fast sometimes that it can be hard to mutter comprehensibly words.

1:38 Voice box again. A quick transition from the intense part.

2:10 Thinking about it, the high pitched sound vocals remind a bit of vocaloid tracks. But obviously, sounding much more natural XD

2:31 Yooo alright these are some awesome guitar riffs. This is a killer bridge.

2:55 Slow part, alright, leading up to the intense part.

3:18 A different timing, interesting!

3:48 There’s that heavy dubstep from the beginning showing up again.

Honestly, that piece surprised me. I for sure thought it was going to be one of Dana’s Dubstep’s again, but it turned out to be pretty awesome!!! Hooo. Now I have to try and rate this without bias. Ahem. From a purely musical standpoint

11/10

Ok I’m kidding. Here’s my actual honest-to-goodness-real-100%-fact-truthful score. Only deducting a point because of the dubstep at the beginning at end, which was an odd choice considering it only appears at the beginning and the end and nowhere else.

9/10

Buskerdog Reaction

Spoiler

Wow I can’t believe you’ve revealed all 3 of your picks already. … So when’s Jssf going to post the 3 songs we judge? XD Kidding of course lol. But can’t really rate the scores here.

Drunken_Flower Reaction

Spoiler

Establishing a new standard I see. Honestly, appreciate the spoiler blocks. Will make guessing people’s picks later on much easier. Personally, I’ll be saving my predictions until all the tracks have been revealed. The more information I can examine, the merrier, I say.

1) Piano Concerto No 666 - Jealousy Fire

0:00 Ah yeah, like those “Once Upon a Time” moments. Like a bard singing a folk song about some ancient legend or something.

0:16 Interesting you’d make it about love. I’m more so on the Netaminity side, thinking it as a jealousy towards the happiness of normal people in general and how you can’t fit in. But suddenly realizing that her lover’s been cheating on her is a good motivator for jealousy too.

1:19 Agreed. It’s like a concert band in highschool where you have that one percussion kid in the back getting super excited that it’s finally their part in the song and just smashing the cymbals together like there’s no tomorrow.

1:55 Excellent tastes.

2) Apparitions Stalk the Night

2005? Surprising! Thought it was 2013. Guess you can say the Death Note OST was inspired by this track XD

I am glad you hate the fadeout like I do.

3) No more reason

Yeah, Nuclear Fusion has this thing to it that attracts the most heavy dubstep and techno style tracks. I’d be laughing if I eventually found a track that had something like an Irish Folksong or Scottish Bagpipe remix for nuclear fusion.

Ken Hisuag Reaction

Spoiler

1: Xe - Piano Concerto No 666 ~ Jealousy Fire

Yeah, in terms of source motif, I’m glad it’s not just a direct MIDI copy of Green Eyed Jealousy with orchestral/piano soundfonts slapped on it lol. It uses concerto interpretation in a way that, while it makes it sound unique, isn’t used so often that you can’t recognize the original source material.

2: XL Project - Apparitions Stalk the Night ~MintJam Mix~

YES. We’ve got another complaint for the fade out ending! I absolutely agree. At first, when writing my review, I was worried that nobody would notice that part, but I’m glad to see others noticing it as well.

The surrounding improvisation is what I’m especially a fan of. It really embodies that “chillout” nature from the title. Where the guitarist isn’t so stressed trying to memorizing the tabs, finger frets, chord positions, whether it’s pronounced cape-o or cap-o, but is instead just, chill.

3: OTOMEKAN - No more reason

Ahhh that’s it. Maybe that’s why I considered it kind of like a vocaloid track at the beginning, but it really does have that standard pop song structure. Which is surprising, because usually when I think of pop songs, I think of those generic ones you’ll hear at the mall, where they all sound the same. But Solar Sect does a lot to stand out!

Jssf1992 Reaction

Spoiler

I’m very interested to see how you’ll rate these picks, considering how, in the last tournament, you would have rated all of the picks higher than what everyone else’s ratings were!

Jealousy Fire:

Yeah, some of it can be a bit messy. Maybe that’s just the concerto style? While your opinion differs from mine, it’s still interesting to see this other take.

Apparitions stalk the Night:

I believe it’s able to have that consistent pace, despite the electric guitar’s sharpness, because it’s used sparingly. With heavy metal tracks, the guitar dominates like, the whole melody. But here, it’s sort of used as a background ambiance.

Nuclear Fusion

Hmmm interesting. While personally the vocals being a bit off beat to the main melody makes me like it so much, I can see how it can be a bit offputting when you have this main melody here, and then the vocals off somewhere else.

Dana Iclucia Reaction

Spoiler

1. Understandable. I remember you mentioning before how you weren’t much of a fan for piano pieces, so it’s expected.

2. Yeah, I guess when people think of metal it’s like, heavy metal. So it’s funny to see them mixed together.

3. Surprising, I thought for sure that this would’ve been your pick considering the dubstep at the beginning.

Crusader Jerome

Spoiler

Welcome! The more the merrier I always say! Please don’t feel the need to post a reaction to everyone’s comments, this is a self built prison that hopefully doesn’t lead to repetitive strain injury on my wrists in the future XD.

Jealousy Fire

Always nice to see a fellow piano fan here. Funnily enough, the first Touhou remixes I ever listened to were piano, so I feel a bit nostalgic to the genre. (Even if they were just using piano soundfonts over pre-made MIDIs, but I digress).

Apparitions Stalk the Night

YES ok, that’s another one in the bag for “petition-to-ban-all-fade-outs”!!

Nuclear Fusion

Ahh Gensou Skydrift, don’t remind me that a contest winner won and chose Orin to get into the game and not Okuu. Even though it’s her stage. Just… I’m going to go cry in a corner somewhere… :’( lol

Jerome was successfully added to the tournament. I'm happy we have a new participant! Alright, time to commence with round 2.

Firstly a Tokyo Active NEETs arrangement for Gensokyo Past and Present.

Then, a vocal remix of Maiden's Capriccio.

Finally, a Latin-style remix of Beware the Umbrella Left There Forever.

1. Ah NEET's, it's a word that i hear quite often in 2hu fanbase personally i've always been neutral toward them though, usually not my style but they are one of better ones when it comes to orchestral and stuff like that, this one is pretty decent though

2. Now that's something i know this one so old Alstroemeria was one of best electronic circles i could find when looking thru really old stuff (2007-2009) (and EastNewSound) and it's nomico so it auto gets +1 to final score, you can just tell it's fairly old song but some of those are just timeless

8/10

3. Now it quite surprised me ngl i've expected it'll get a mediocre grade at best because of the style, but it caught me off-guard and was quite catchy as well, like almost everyone here know because i'm saying it in every post lmao it's not my exact style but it's pretty neat one

Introduction

Spoiler

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t resist!!! Especially with all of the ratings being covered in spoilers now!!!! It was just too tempting!!! Anyways, onto my reviews.

1) Gensokyo Past and Present

Spoiler

Tokyo Active NEETs, the classic ol’ reliable Orchestra group. The art of Yuuka reminds me of the artstyle they have in Touhou Lost Word. (I really only log into the app once a day to get the daily few cubes. Maybe in a year I can hit the 500 needed for an actual character guarantee lol). And… I just read the title and realized it is Lost Word lol.

0:20 On to the actual video, you’ve got the classic sin bag cosplayer dancing to the rhythm with his hand fan. Here you can see him doing the “pump-it!” dance, where he’s fist bumping into the air.

0:38 Next, he’s doing those Russian kicks (Kazotsky kick / squat kick). It matches the BPM quite well! Also I just noticed he has no shoes.

1:02 With the pan, you can see him doing the “woot woot” dance, aka “raising the roof”. But with some custom variation where he has one leg sticking out and is swaying side to side.

1:15 You can see him grabbing his chin, trying to keep the mask steady, I’m hoping he can breathe in the costume.

1:39 He just doesn’t know what to do anymore

2:53 He’s back! Now he’s flailing his one arm around like the Cowboy Dance. I recommend, for those of you unfamiliar with the Cowboy Dance, to watch this video. Go to timestamp 0:40.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pXg6F7GsMQ

3:06 Back to the Squat Kicks! He definitely didn’t forget about leg day.

4:03 With him wiggling his whole body and having his arms stick up vertically, it’s clear he’s doing the caterpillar dance. Of course, standing upright and not on the floor.

So overall, based on those moves I’d give it a

7/10

since there were some repeats like the Kazotsky Kicks and a bit too many “woot woots” and not enough “Cowboy Dance”.

But in all seriousness, this style seems more like Jazz Band than Concert Band. (I would know, I accidently took Concert Band in high school thinking it was Jazz Band by mistake. So I’ve never forgotten the difference between them since then).

I like how it uses the trumpet while having their own style distinct to ZUNpets. Of course, the saxophone gives it that iconic Jazz style. And the piano adds some nice backup. Plus the bass strings gives it a nice consistent beat, no matter how subtle. I especially like the bridge at 1:34 with the sax solo.

So overall, based on that music, what it does well is consistency. If you want a good background track for a mobile game, then this is perfect. But when reviewing it in isolation, it goes on for a long time with a lot of the same melody repeated and not much variation. If this was shorter, it’d be much higher. This of course makes sense, considering it’s a live recording in a studio and I imagine there might not be enough room for more, or to have a sudden set up change. But I’m moreso one who prefers cool editing in their music, just to change up the pace. So it’s a

2) Maiden's Capriccio.

Spoiler

0:00 Ok, electronic. Have some nice synthesizers in the back with some techno vocals.

0:58 Alright, now things are picking up. They’ve got a nice drum beat loop that compliments. This really feels like an EDM track, where they slowly add more instruments and melodies to the song to develop it.

1:54 I really like the pauses they have between the voices during these transitions. Helps to emphasizes there’s a new set of lines.

2:23 There’s that Reimu melody we all know and love! I appreciate the build up to it, makes it feel more satisfying when you get there.

Afterwards, rest of it is essentially the same.

This is definitely the sort of track that’s best to listen to in the background while you do other things. And I can appreciate the genre, just because there’s so much high intensity big melodic songs that feel stressful to listen to when you’re trying to concentrate on other work. But this one’s just that perfect white noise to put on if you want a song with low commitment.

So, I’m rating this one higher by a point than the jazz remix. Personally, I’m the type who prefers edited music rather than live renditions, so of course, based on my own preferences.

3) Beware the Umbrella Left There Forever

Spoiler

Alright, already I’m imagining those sort of latin dances.

0:00 Nice unique instrument. Coming in with the melody

0:14 Oooohh ok I love that guitar. Ayy and they’ve got those clappers in the back! Those feel oddly satisfying on my ear, like some sort of musical ASMR. The claps in the back makes this piece feel like it’s a live match in one of those stages where we’re facing off.

2:01 Oooooohhhhh ok that guitar was really cool. I swear, all of these timestamps are just going to be me talking about the guitar.

2:14 OOOHHHHH ok yeah yeah. It’s just going to be me reacting to that guitar. But I really like how this bridge sounds.

2:41 Ahhh and it’s gone. Well I guess we have to return to the main melody at some point right?

2:56 Ooohh some guitar again. I noticed that. Definitely noticed that.

3:15 Oohh ok bit of guitar there!

3:27 Ooh ok but these guitar bits are getting shorter.

3:39 Oh and even shorter this time.

Overall, the style reminds me of Dark Pit’s theme from Kid Icarus Uprising. And I really like the guitar, that personally carries the piece for me. I know I have this whole piano backstory, but funnily enough, an instrument I learned before that was the Acoustic Guitar. A lot of people in my class eventually went on to do the Electric Guitar, seeing it as some sort of upgrade, but I’ve always stayed with the Acoustic.

In fact, I always keep an Acoustic Guitar to show off in the living room. Yeah, usually people show off all their brightly colored fancy electrics, but me, I’ve just got a generic Acoustic on the wall XD. So you can say it’s been there, being foreshadowed this whole time as I’ve typed these posts.

So, I can appreciate hearing those regular nylon strings here. With that said, as much as I love the acoustic here, a lot of it is just the same instruments. Of course, more refreshing than the above two, which is why I’m rating it higher. It’s like a cool summer breeze. But I wish it used even more variety so it’s not too repetitive.

Reactions

Spoiler

Dana Iclucia: Yeah, NEET’s are pretty popular. I personally prefer their orchestra performances, over the live recordings.

I’m glad I’m early though, so I don’t have to type a super long reaction to everyone else’s posts lol (though I’ll still read them regardless).
