  1. Very nice guide. I would just add some more troubleshooting points. On all machines I played Touhou on, using vanilla wine and proton will make the game's SFX muffled due to bad resampling. Using Lutris's builds of wine and proton-ge fixes this. Maybe bottles's builds also have it patched. I would also mention what a compositor is and how to disable it, because ideally we don't want vsync or any additional input delay on the game. I never played a game on Wayland, I don't know how well you can take care of this, but on Xorg I know you can disable the compositor in most desktops.
  2. I despise the education system in my country. You are overworked for nothing, evaluated unfairly in a highly stressful competition for a mere chance of survival. You have no time or energy left for yourself and you will have to work very hard for subjects and exams that are not even related to the course you want to apply to. You must have a high score for everything or you're fucking done, regardless of whether you actually like or need the subject or not. Yes, even physical education's score counts. You are nothing but a number to the system. Your creativity and passion for learning is crushed by the imposition that you must memorize everything and repeat the exact same patterns to squeeze the highest score possible for a small chance of making it out well in the system. This is not learning or even close. The only thing you learn from this is to despise school and how to hold a fart for 8-10 consecutive hours. You are imprisoned for a whole day, unable to rest, do as you wish or stand up without being punished. In the end, you might be amazing at the area of your dreams, but you won't be able to join unless you sell your soul to everything that does not fucking matter or is not fucking fair. In comparison, in other countries (usually northern and nordic europe) you would easily enter the area of your dreams without effort regardless of your current skills for it. Things however get slightly better here when you are already graduated from college and you want to apply for a higher level of education like a post graduation or a masters. In this case, the entry is curriculum-based instead and you can prove your skills with what truly matters in a mostly down-to-earth approach. Your entry score will now be able to be much higher with professional experience or, my favorite, your personal experience, projects, documents, scientific papers, etc. Yeah sure, if you don't have professional experience and the degree is not in the course family of the masters/post graduation you want to apply to, your entry priority will be low. But the cool thing here is that masters degrees (depending on the university) are fragmented into multiple branches. The post-graduations are also specialized and you have a fair share of them (varies between universities too). This makes it so that there are just about enough slots for most people, so you don't have to worry much about the horrible entry competition that used to be before. Since this country has (iirc) the 3rd oldest population in the world, there is a lot of old fashioned and boomer mentality, and even the young people probably won't understand or care about this problem. It's even worse if you have autism or a similar condition that makes you hyperfocus on your special interests, but be unable to focus on what does not matter or what you don't care about. The school system is not made for atypical neurological minds. In fact, they want us all to be exact same copies of each other, like a recycled NPC.
  3. This happens only with th19 on fullscreen very specifically, and I don't have old or quirky obscure hardware/drivers, so it surely is something that is different in the engine that doesn't go along well with wine
  4. I used Lutris's builds of wine and proton-ge and both had this issue Not so sure about vanilla proton because i didnt buy the game on steam I didn't try bottles or vanilla wine
  5. Touhou 19 had so much potential to be one of the greatest games, but it got too rushed. It's a very fun game and has many characters to play with and I'm enjoying it. It's sad because if only the game wasn't rushed it would have been amazing, because there are many positive things to talk about the game, but the negative aspects turn me off completely from considering buying it. The OST's original tracks are very cool and I like them, but the rest is just rearrangements of old themes and most barely differ from the originals. The pixel art is very cool, and the portraits are too. The new character's designs range from really cool to meh. I like Hisami and Son Biten more than the rest. Input delay is really good as always Finally my controller's analog triggers work. So many games don't support these analog triggers I can't talk about the story yet, because you progress through it as you play with each character, instead of each character being an isolated variant of the story. Then we have the strong downsides of the game: No score at all No replays (wtf!!!!!) No extra stage Online is fucked Some character portraits are worse than others, and generally all have the same energy to them, which doesn't help distinguishing character personalities Unbalanced portions of the game depending on the context (for example fighting certain enemies in lunatic) Some playable characters are very weak Main game is the shortest ever, with every run lasting around 15 minutes Versus mode takes forever for the enemy to get hit, feels very unfair In story mode, the enemy doesn't get hit, you just have to clear the spellcards. This is fine, but it's weird considering it's supposed to be a versus game. Also in the same mode, the enemy live indication doesn't lower when you clear a spellcard and doesn't represent the amount of spellcards you need to clear either, so you don't know how many are left to clear unless you know from memory This is the first Touhou game to crash on Linux when you alt-tab (if it's in fullscreen mode). I'm not sure if this happens on native Windows as well The card mechanic is not necessary and doesn't need to be in this game. You won't care about the cards and you can't even pick the ones you want. It just feels forced I assume the price increase to 14€ or whatever is due to zun hiring a pixel artist, but the game in its current state should not be this expensive. I hope zun patches it and improves it a little bit at least
  6. Ah shit, then I guess I'll keep plundering I don't want to spend 14-15€ in a game in such state, I don't want to give zun the idea that he should keep rushing his games.
  7. It would be very cool if he polished the game further and added replays and other missing features.
  8. I follow the ways of the Doremy
  9. I go raw and simple with VLC with custom settings, but recently I have been trying Elisa which is the music player in KDE Plasma's software suite
  10. I love Touhou 15 and 7 OSTs the most I'm not a big fan of Touhou 17 and Touhou 1 OSTs
  11. The current state of the community seems to be an indirect consequence of something bigger, which is mostly how the western society and internet culture have changed between early 2000s and today. If you go to the japanese Touhou communities you will see a tremendous difference, they are on a whole separate world. I found out and about Touhou and started playing the games in 2019, so the community hasn't changed much for me, just became a bit worse, but I noticed the change in western society over all these years. I remember the innocence and simplicity of the 2000s, and the whole essence of Touhou fits the 2000s and 2010s perfectly in a way. Over the years, the mainstream western culture has changed drastically to become lower quality, more generic and less creative or funny/quirky. Real diversity gets killed by the peer pressure for us to all fit in and become exact copies of each other, while the masses promote fake diversity through the idea that superficial traits define our entire being. I blame the most common social media for this, like Twitter, Instagram Reddit and Tiktok. These 4 platforms alone destroyed the integrity and sanity of western society. In the western fandom of japanese culture, Touhou became mainstream, and when that happens, all the downsides of the mainstream come to the community. It doesn't mean that the good portion of the fanbase is dead, but it's relatively much smaller than the mainstream. The mainstream part of the Touhou fandom starts relying more on the fanmade media aspects that originally brought them in, and then they introduce overused memes and ideas, etc etc. I love plushies and I wouldn't mind having a fumo, but fumos are extremely overrated. It's ok to make memes and joke about things and like to watch or mention and joke about very popular fanmade media, but when this is used as a way to spread information about what Touhou is, it brings an even worse part of the mainstream: the one that doesn't know Touhou and doesnt care. People get introduced to Touhou with these fumos and memes and Scarlet Police funky this fucky that and gachas, and they become fans of this content, but then the newcomers don't know, care or like the official Touhou content but are now a part of the fandom. When it comes to the creative part of the fandom, it got severely affected by the downsides of social media peer pressure. The addiction of likes, fame, upvotes, etc. This is why I don't follow the most popular western Touhou youtubers, and why I strongly avoid the biggest Touhou places and don't really show up in social media places. There isn't much you can do other than to try to filter out the bad side. I play/follow Touhou and interact with some Touhou fandom places, but I avoid talking about Touhou in unrelated places or in the mainstream, with the fear of somebody recognising it for something that it isn't and then bringing an awkward conversation or something. The problem with the modern Touhou fandom is just a consequence of what's happening in the west, eventually it gets sorted out. Like Pepi said, there are still many creative and cool parts of the Touhou fandom, and there always will be, just not as much in the most mainstream places. The Sanae Kochiya from The Touhou Project
  12. I love and would definitely wear any of these hats: Doremy's hat: A pajama hat that looks like a Santa hat, it fits Doremy perfectly Suwako's hat: You can't go wrong with this hat, it fits many outfit choices. The eyes give it a lot of personality and it's cute and goofy Yuyuko's hat: A nice hat that fits a lot of clothing styles with similar colour palettes. Has a cool ghostly spiral logo that coincidentally looks like Debian's logo Koishi's hat: A cool hat for similar reasons to Suwako's hat, but without the funny frog personality eyes. Will most likely need a clothing setup with a fitting colour palette Mai and Satono: SHOE Mamizou: LEAF
  13. For these kinds of situations, I don't recommend overthinking because it could give the opposite effect of what you want. I found out about Touhou in 2019, which is when I created an account in Moriya Shrine (despite only started talking here recently). I became very obsessed with the games and played them a lot, but then years later, in 2022, I started not caring as much about Touhou, so I just took a break until I truly felt like I wanted to play again, and so I returned to the games. You can take a break and focus on something else, and come back later and realise that now you are much more interested in the series after the break, or you could give the official games another chance, since you said you only played th7.
  14. From reading the replies, wow I didn't expect the D-pad to be this popular for bullet hell My controller's dpad is alright but not good enough for bullet hell, but I really like using the joystick so it's not a big problem for me. I think I would only need a good dpad for much higher precision, for example Junko in hard or lunatic. That's a precision I can get with my linear switch keyboard, but I'm not quite there yet on joystick
  15. Exactly this! When I played Touhou with my mechanical keyboard it was on my desktop. For many reasons, nowadays I'm mostly on my laptop, but my laptop's keyboard has ghosting and doesn't let me deathbomb. This was my first motivation to give my controller a try My controller's D-pad isn't good enough to use it on bullet hell, but I don't mind using the joystick
