  1. In addition, here's my input. After looking closer, I noticed a few things. First and foremost, the gohei is longer yet again :| Another thing I noticed was Reimu's outfit. You can see that there are now some paw prints on Reimu's miko clothes, which is a nice (and cute) touch. While a lot less significant, I somehow noticed that Reimu's shoes are more detailed than we saw last in UM. Not very noticeable, but proof that ZUN's art skills are getting more attention to detail. One other thing I noticed was a new menu option: Achievement. While achievements aren't new, it is notable that it is its own menu option. That's as much as I've got for now. Here's to a great new Phantasmagoria game!
  2. Here's an analysis from someone on Maiden's of the Kaleidoscope. I will post it below: Oh wow, the announcement was expected as we are nearing the titular announcement beriod before Reitaisai, but never would have thought that this time we would receive a phantasmagoria-style game (which incidentally may stop getting called phantasmagoria games with this one). The screenshots this time seems to be pretty stacked with bits of pieces of informations : First things first, seems like we're gonna have 19 characters ! That's about 3 more girls than in PoFV and about the same amount of playables as in aocf ! Not to mention the fact that we're getting first timers in the characters of Aunn, Nazrin, and Seiran, not coming with quite the new drip but enjoying a new ZUNart, which is quite lovely. This small lineup plus the plot's suggesting the involvement of the beasts has already led to speculations that part of the cast this time might have something to do with the Chinese zodiac animals. If we're gonna speculate on that aspect, imo we might end up with something like this : - Rat = Nazrin - Ox = Urumi ? - Tiger = Shou ? - Rabbit = Seiran - Dragon = Kicchou ? - Snake = ??? (or Kasen ?) - Horse = Kurokoma ? - Goat = Toutetsu - Monkey = ??? (or Kokoro ?) - Rooster = Kutaka ? - Dog = Aunn - Pig = Marisa ? (c'mon, her bow looks like piglet ears) Might prove interesting but that would obviously pose problem against game representation per character Nothing to take seriously there, and even big assumptions aside, it's reasonable to expect a somewhat large cast of new characters for this one since not only it's a mainline title, but even it's, uh, "predecessor" gave quite a bit of new girls (as in Aya, Medicine, Yuuka, Komachi, and Yabadabadoo). That means that even if the Chinese Zodiac Animals theory comes into fruition (and even remove Reimu and Marisa from the count), we'd have 2 slots for Reimu and Marisa, 12 slots for chines zodiac fitting characters, and 5 slots for brand new girls, some of which could either be fitted in the chinese zodiac or occupy a different place ; and if it doesn't ... we're gonna get a very crazy lineup. As far as Touhou stories go, the ones with settings that aren't fully explored in one game but properly solved in another generally tend to be major (ie : ULiL into LoLK, WBaWC into SHoSS) : this game seems like it's gonna tie together the happenings from a Hell invasion game AND a marketing one, this is gonna be interesting at the very least In these next two screenshots, we get to see PoFV-like PoFV sights where Reimu's bloodied yin yang orbs pop up in Marisa's side while some of Marisa's lasers get to pop up next to Reimu. Also a sneaky but noticeable NEW REIMU BOSS SPRITE Also, worthy of mention, back in the Seiran and Marisa screenshot, there seems to be icons reminiscent of TH 18 and TH 18.5's ability cards right below the girls's texts, suggesting that these cards may still come into play this time : Aunn's cut-in might take a big chunk of this other screenshot, but if you pay attention, you'll notice that Nazrin (yes, that's Nazrin) seems to be firing a sneaky Marisa laser, probably due to a certain equipment card. It is not certain from the screenshots how exactly are the ability cards gonna be put to use this time, like how many are you going to have, are they all gonna be available from the get go, and whether they are going to have something to do with the stars at the bottom-ight of the UI (I believe there weren't any stars back in PoFV) I might not have played PoFV, but even I have heard tales of how ... slightly differents controls were, considering how the game was meant to be played, and I wonder if the addition of the stars (which looks like consumables that shouldn't count as life points since these are represented by hearts in the upper middle of the screen) would add another button to press top do stuff. Can't be so sure what they're gonna be used for, especially if bullets clearing is gonna work the same as in PoFV, where it happens as you release your Spells. Still on the PoFV likeness side of things, since it's 2023 and since this game seems to feature a vs mode, I wonder if this game's VS mode is going to NOT end up going down in infamy and be serviceable without requiring outside tinkering, cuz that would make this game a little bit more interesting. Not so sure how much ZUN has evolved as far as netcoding goes, but I think I'm going to keep my expectations a bit on the lower side as when it comes to the early days multiplayer aspect of this new game. Touhou mainline games are first and foremost single players, making them a delight for single player experience seeking players and friendless basement dwellers alike. Competing with a flesh and blood creature may prove a bit relaxing compared to competing with a judge of the dead AI that fairly unfocus dodges through clumps of bullets, so something to look forward on this aspect too. And a little bit more on the speculation side of things, as far as story goes, if this is gonna be a tie-in of sorts for the events of TH 17 and TH 18, which it seems to me, and I wonder if it could be an opportunity to re explore part of TH 17's settings that were not explored yet, just like in TH 17.5, namely the last and secret gang of the animal realm (also is it just me or the shadowy thing behind Reimu in the Title screen picture is oddly reminiscent of the shadowy thing from WBaWC ?) Anyway, it's is always a good sight to see a new entry into this franchise. PoFV is notorious for being a bit of an outlier in various ways, and I'm expecting this game to receive a similar treatment too, somewhere down the line. EDIT: Credits to Suspicious Person on MotK.
  3. So um, I feel like you got Nazrin and Shou mixed up, if anything. Also, I don't feel like anyone from the Myouren Temple is necessarily air-headed (except Unzan, because c'mon. He's a cloud). Shou's design is based off of tigers and Nazrin is a... rat general? I don't know, I don't care for the Buddhists much, so I may be wrong. As for SA with Former Hell, the Old Capital, Chireiden aka the Palace of Earth Spirits, and the Former Hell of Blazing Fires, I honestly like all of them. Combined with the fact that it has Reimu, Marisa, Yukari, Suika, Aya, Alice, Patchouli, Nitori, Kisume, Yamame, Parsee, Yuugi, Orin, Satori, Okuu, Sanae, Koishi, and Suwako all in one game, I believe that's the most characters out of the main danmaku games (aside from the Phantasmagorias). Almost all of them have well thought out character designs, personalities, and backgrounds (sorry Kisume, Yamame and Parsee, you guys don't have too much). SA is by far my favorite in terms of characters and story (Kanako told Okuu to eat a god that isn't too far from being cannibalism and then she became the sun). As the last of the early-modern Windows era games before ZUN finally got good at drawing, I say that it wrapped it all up nicely. Also I pity what you may go through if you say this so casually again lol.
  4. From the album: OkuuFallout's Touhou Character Sorters

Oh how the mighty have fallen...
  5. I both like and hate the whole Touhou aging debate. I hate it because there is a very simple and somewhat disappointing answer that ZUN himself has stated before, yet people still debate over it. But I like it because most people don't know what that answer is, yet I do. I prefer to watch the world burn than do anything about it though, so don't expect an answer out of me hehe. Akyuu is an interesting outlier, though. It is nice how a human with a given birthdate is made to age with the series, although something might happen since this reincarnation's time is almost up. However, I would like to address another piece of media where certain characters age while others do not: The Simpsons. As far as I know, and correct me if I'm wrong, Apu's children have grown while everyone else is pretty much the same. Just a comparison to something similar.
  6. My dream job? Well, the college I'm going to is an engineering school, and I plan to pursue my dream to be a mechanical engineer. It depends on if you mean strictly Gensokyo or a place accessible from Gensokyo. My favorite place would be Former Hell. I would like to discuss architectural designs with Yamame and perhaps other tsuchigumo if they could tolerate a human. I like spiders a lot too, so it's a win-win. Also the Palace of Earth Spirits is there. I honestly wouldn't mind Satori's presence too much, my ADHD brain would probably confuse her anyway. Maybe I could befriend her and spend time with her pets. She probably has dogs, my favorite animal, and she has Orin and Okuu, and those 2 are great. If it is within Gensokyo, either Kourindou or Keine's place would be my favorite. I would get along very well with them both. I love random obscure things, and I love history. Somewhere, there's info on Keine and a warning not to talk about topics she's really interested in, but I'd probably be into the same things anyway. And with Rinnosuke, I'd like to hear his thoughts on some of the random junk he has and what I have.
  7. Try to guess my country! This country sucks. But for real, I've interacted with plenty of people from here online. I've even met someone with a Remilia Fumo.
  8. If I was to be honest, the games themselves, as in the genre and gameplay, probably are the least impactful on the community. Sure, there are a plethora of shmup fangames, but I'd argue that the characters, story, design, and the overall setting of Touhou are more important. I have never played one of the shmups, but I have played AoCF, and honestly, I was mostly there for the story, experience, and music. I'd say that being a fan in itself is arguably one of the best parts of Touhou. Without its thriving community and ZUN's tolerance of what is technically his own property, Touhou wouldn't be nearly as popular. Just imagine if ZUN was as copyright-friendly as Nintendo. Touhou wouldn't even be 1% of what it is today. Touhou came to me when I was practically at my lowest point in life, when a lot was going on and my previous interests no longer appealed to me. That was almost 2 years ago, and I'm in a much better place than then. Every now and then, I will say "Touhou basically saved my life". It doesn't matter to me if anyone thinks I'm lying or exaggerating, but I will always say that, no matter what happens in my life.
  9. Thank you for telling me. Here it is:
  10. There's a whole video on YouTube about how Koji Kondo (legendary Nintendo composer responsible for most of the classic Nintendo music we still remember today) had to create the ocarina system in Ocarina of Time. Considering the incredibly limited design with only 5 notes, he had to create 12 different melodies for the player that were unique enough to memorize. The result was fantastic, and to this day they are considered great songs. EDIT: Here's the video:
  11. Oh, you're right. I was just so used to writing "consonant" that I wrote it in place of vowel. So yeah, it was just a mistake. I meant "vowel".
  12. Nintendo/Sony fanboy rants about how Microsoft failed them lol
  13. After some research, I found out that the "i" is silent sometimes. I knew about "u" sometimes being silent, but not "i". So as I was first about to type this, I was going to say "i" is never silent, which I would've been wrong. However, after researching this, I can confirm that the "i" in "Reimu" is not silent. The only times it can be silent are between two consonant sounds that do not use a voice (k, s, sh, t, ch, h and f), and on certain occasions they are "devoiced", as it is called, regardless (most notably in "desu" and "masu", where the "u" is silent). The "i" in "Reimu" does not come after a voiceless consonant, and therefore the "i" is pronounced. The only time I know of a vowel being silent after another vowel is in "ou", where it draws out the "o", like in "youkai". Even then, some words have a double "o", like in "おおきい/大きい", or "ookii", which means "big". In fact, if anything was to be wrongly pronounced in Reimu's name, it would actually be the opposite, somewhat. Even some Japanese people don't do this. The "ay" sound in "Reimu" would technically be broken down further to emphasize the difference between the "e" and "i" more, making it kind of like "Re-ee-moo" (where "ee" is the same as a Japanese "i"). If you don't believe me, look no further than the classic, "Neko Miko Reimu", in which the singer emphasizes each syllable in "Reimu", although it is emphasized more heavily than normal. But like I said before, some Japanese people don't emphasize individual consonant sounds, and just do it fast enough to be more of a blend between the two.
  14. Remembering that there was a mention of pronunciations earlier in this topic, I wanted to go back to that. Regarding the accent change, I really don't think it matters much. But the one thing that irks me are the phonetic pronunciations of the characters. One of the great things about the Japanese language is its pronunciations of their characters (kanji isn't really a part of this, since they're technically Chinese characters and different sounds for them have changed over time). That's why when I hear people say "Sir-no", it really annoys me. Cirno's japanese spelling is チルノ, or when romanized, "Chi-ru-no" (do note, however, that the "u" in "ru" cannot be omitted like in some other foreign words pronunciations). If it was spelled "しるノ", or "shi-ru-no", it would be correct since the Japanese language doesn't have a native "si" sound, and they often don't bother pronouncing foreign words like that. So that's why when I hear "Sir-no", I always cringe. Flandre is also a mispronounced character. This one doesn't really bother me, I even knowingly mispronounce it myself. But I have yet to hear it said in its correct way. At the end of "Flandre", the "e" is pronounced. However, in the Japanese spelling, it is spelled "フランドール", or "fu-ra-n-dō-ru". Because of the last character being "ru" and not "re", a non-Japanese pronunciation would most likely really be something like "Flander".
  15. Yeah... you mentioning Halo makes me think about how many issues I have with Microsoft/Xbox. The biggest problem I have with them is how they bought out Bethesda, and they get exclusive games from them, games I want to play. And I'm not being prejudiced, I've owned (or rather my family owned) an Xbox 360 and Xbox One. I actually once really enjoyed Xbox One, before they completely changed the home and its user interface. The most that I felt was moderate annoyance, but I soon fazed out of Xbox and instead became solely focused on Sony and Nintendo consoles (something I find kind of cool is that we have owned all of the 7th and 8th generation consoles at some point in time, although not all at once). We later gave the Xbox to a friend of my mom's, and I haven't touched it since, despite having opportunities at their place. The final straw was when Microsoft bought out Bethesda Softworks, which I was pretty pissed about. The fact that they did this with a AAA gaming company drastically lower my opinion of them. I don't know if I'll ever try Xbox again. The only way I can see myself forgiving them is if they somehow do something unthinkable to redeem themselves. Granted, this is all my personal opinion. I'll even admit that Xbox is a pretty good console with pretty good games. But the amount of exclusive games on Xbox (in reference to consoles, not PC) that don't really need to be exclusive just annoys me.
  16. Sorry, these replies didn't appear in my notifications, so I didn't see them. Open-world adventure games. My favorite game of all time is Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but some of my other favorites include Fallout 4, Skyrim, Genshin Impact, Pokemon games, and (even though I've only played it for like 10 minutes and mostly watched ApreyFM play it) Reimu's Awesome Holiday. The Bugatti is a vibrant blue. It stands out in an essentially monochrome parking lot. I break intelligence into two categories: Street-smarts and book-smarts. For street-smarts I would agree with Marisa for the same reasons (also I really like her), but I would also consider Yachie a candidate, since she was essentially the mastermind of the WBaWC incident. For book-smarts, or otherwise more analytical intelligence, I would no doubt go with Ran. It's been confirmed that she is extremely good at math, even being indirectly compared to a computer (I think, but correct me if I'm wrong). I also like how in Cheating Detective Satori she and Chen were responsible for counting all the spirits in the Netherworld, which I thought was amazing.
