  1. While we're on the topic of the Rivals OST, I thought I'd mention how I appreciate the extensions that some of the older tracks got when the game went into definitive edition. Fight and Flight is still my favourite track, but The Earthen Division wins my award for most improved track.

  2. The last time I posted about DJtheS was, well, pretty much at the inception of this thread. Given that he isn't a discovery for me, its not like I feel any need to post his stuff. However, I wanted to share this medley anyway, since it's a perfect fit for the season. Merry Christmas, guys!

  3. There are a lot of original themes from ULiL/AoCF that I really like, and I'm also a fan of IaMP's soundtrack in general (it's a shame NKZ only did music for IaMP and none of the follow-up games), so I agree it's unfortunate no one really seems to arrange those.

I had a bit of a look, and while I couldn't find arrangements of the themes you specifically asked, I did find two arrangements of Bamboo Forest in Flames (one instrumental and one vocal), which is probably my favourite of the original themes from ULiL.

    Spoiler

First off is this one. It's CROW'sCLAW. What more can I say.

And this is the second one. I didn't know exactly what to think of it at the beginning, but I was very happily surprised when the vocals unexpectedly started.

A bonus of any video about a Mokou-related theme is that you get to see cool pictures of Mokou.

Now, here's an unrelated additional discovery. It coincidentally also happens to be another DnB remix.

We had a few rock posts after the last tournament, didn't we? But sure, why not?

"If you're just remixing one song, you're not doing it right."
    ~ YaboiMatoi, probably

Now that I'm thinking about it, Touhou rock often gets blended into other genres, making it difficult to find in its distinguished form.

I meant DnB as the one we don't see too often. I didn't really have metal in mind when I suggested rock, but you make a point that it often shares similarities with other genres, to the point where it becomes hard to distinguish where it stops being rock and starts being something else. Still, I'd say YaboiMatoi's and RichaadEB's covers are definitely metal (I did like them though). That Bad Apple remix on the other hand was more what I had in mind, and I hadn't found a Bad Apple cover with a good male vocal before, so I'm glad you shared it!
On the topic of what makes the difference between rock and metal, I'd say the main distinction is in the percussion.

I didn't know what drum'n'bass was before last tournament, and I haven't gotten around to looking beyond maritumix. If you know of a good place to start, I'd love to hear it!

I don't listen to that much of it myself, but I happen to know this one, so it might be worth looking into the circle that made this?

    Spoiler

Damn I forgot how good this was.

Ironically a remix of Faith is for the Transient People (which I typed out in full ?).

Faith is for the Transient People isn't that annoying to type out. The song I shared earlier was a remix of The Primal Scene of Japan the Girl Saw. Doesn't help it's been retranslated several times already.

  5. Since Ken has been posting so much chiptune recently, here's some Monster Hunter chiptune remixes by Falkkone for him. (Bet ya didn't know he did chiptune, huh? Although, he only made a few of these.)

  6. Unrelated relatively recent discoveries.

    Spoiler

This is an arrange of Mountain of Faith's title theme. I looked into Eternal Melody after hearing this, but unfortunately I couldn't find much from them, at least not much that I liked as much as this.

This one is actually a recent discovery lol. It's a just a very nice upbeat song that uses the main melody of Sanae's stage theme really well (no, I can't be bothered to type out the whole name of that theme here).

Please comment what music I should summon next.

Although I think I already post a lot of it, I'd personally like to see your take on eurobeat. If that's not so up your alley, my other suggestions are rock or maybe drum n bass for something we don't see too often?

  7. Recently I've been going through my youtube history to compile all of the music I've listened to into a list to make it easier to keep track of, and something interesting I found was this; I've been rediscovering a fair number of pieces through doing this but this one in particular is interesting because I have no memory at all of listening to it before, so I guess originally I must have clicked on the video but then not watched it for some reason. It's actually a really unique arrangement, so I'm glad to have discovered it in this unusual way.

    Spoiler

Also another thing I've re-found is this, which I just felt like sharing. Maybe because it's a remix of the Aya theme that you don't hear that often, but also just because it's really jazzy.

Buskerdog has just unintentionally scared me, and I applaud him for his incidental timing. I don't know if audio notifications are new, but I'd never head them before now. ?

They're nothing new, just doesn't happen often. I'm still here by the way, got another thing to post...

  9. Yep, I also remember that one being posted earlier.

Oh, I've been putting this off, but here's an old thing I would have shared for Halloween:

But that reminds me, since I guess a future Halloween remix tournament isn't likely, I might as well share the ones I had in mind.

    Spoiler

You can see why I would have picked these for Halloween.

  10. I managed to find these really good and very obscure remixes, from a pretty long time ago. This channel didn't make that many of them, but they're so good!

    Spoiler

But as it turns out, he's also started making new remixes again just recently! Oh, and he's doing piano stuff as well! However still super obscure. I think these really deserve to be a lot more viewed for how high quality they are.

  11. Ah yes, Shibayan Records, the kings and queens of "we make really good music but it's all really long". One of my first circles I listened to, actually.

Have I really not posted anything by them before? Well, seems like now is a good time.

RT3 is wrapping up, so it should be safe to post this.

I went looking for the original N.I.G.H.T.M.A.R.E. when reviewing the tournament entry, and I appreciated the context it gave to the remix. Personally I think Nhato's version is better, but this one's still good in its own right.

Thank you!! I hadn't heard the original, I love this version too!

edit: oh yeah you don't yet know that was my pick

A new youtube channel uploading Touhou arrangements called GENSOStorage has started uploading recently. Touhou doujin creators can use a form to submit their works to the channel; the aim is to help promote and archive both new and existing touhou arrangements.

It seems like it could become a great outlet for smaller creators, so if it grows it could give exposure to a lot of really obscure stuff.

Yooo already 25 uploads in 2 weeks? That's crazy! Hope the creator of that channel keeps up with the daily uploads (or at least uploads them in bulk and schedules them to become public daily lol). Because I really appreciate the audio visualizer they use over each track compared to the standard static fan art.

They already have a bunch of stuff privated and I imagine they add more private videos as artists send their works in. They release two videos per day at the moment. Also worth noting that it's run by a team, so yeah, they're organised.

  15. As a fan of the Monster Hunter Series, I just want to say I AM BEYOND HYPED FOR MONSTER HUNTER RISE!!!! I'm already in love with the Japanese aesthetic of the game, and seeing the new movement options expanded even further than Monster Hunter World, and just... yeah... There are even shrine maidens, and felynes pounding mochi, and the first environment is a ruined shrine in the wilderness, and FULL VOICE ACTING, and...

When I finally get to play this game I will make posts about the music! But for now, since this is the other game music thread, I should probably share some music here instead of just hyping up for something non-touhou related, so let's get back to Monster Hunter World. I haven't actually played this game in the series (RIP my PC specs) but I've been listening to some of its soundtrack recently. It's been interesting hearing how they remastered some old themes in this game, especially since returning monsters' themes have basically never been updated before World. I wonder what they will use for Monster Hunter Rise, the World versions, the classic versions, or make new versions? Also worth noting that World used an adaptive soundtrack that would change according to different situations, but the versions I'm posting here are their standard battle themes.

    Spoiler

Nargacuga and Brachydios's themes are two which are just really upgraded from their previous versions, with new parts to make them longer, too.

Glavenus's new theme is interesting, rather than a direct upgrade it feels like it goes in more of a different direction than the original. I like the original, but I also like this one for different reasons, which is something I can appreciate.
