Frisk seen as the PS4 exclusive "dog shrine". It looks like the

Not sure about this one but looks like something Marisa would

    use?

In the Ps4 version, there's a dog shrine which resembles the Hakurei Shrine.

Small thing I noticed is that Aserial will call out the name of the attack like "Aserial is readying Chaos Buster" something along the lines of that. Like the Spell Card system we have in Touhou. She is the only character that does that in the game.

Papyrus is a resemblance of the ice fairy: lives in the snow biome, not too smart and fan favourite.

Asgore spear looks like Remilia's red arrow thing. (no offense) The Tsundere Plane wears a very recognizable hat of a Gensokyo sage. Yakumo Yukari. (Apologies for no photos, I'm running out of time, I've got to attend a class)

That's all I can think off. Pardon me, if I get anything wrong. I haven't study Undertale in a long time. Well sometimes, Touhou too.

  3. We can't forget the fact that Toby Fox is a fan of Touhou, meaning Undertale will be filled with Touhou reference! I've researched about it for a while.

Starting of with Music: I've caught on a few numbers of music while watching playthroughs of Undertale.

Megalovania: Sans's Theme awfully sounds a lot like Mima's Theme: Complete Darkness from Touhou 2.

Flowery Theme: Your Best Nightmare's 2:56 to 3:00 is similar to Koshi's Theme: Hartmann's Youkai Girl from Touhou 11

While 3:13 to 3:17 is the start of bad apple from Touhou 4: stage 3 theme.

I'm definitely sure that Undyne The Undying Theme contains Zunpets.

Undertale Ost: 098 - Battle Against a True Hero - YouTube , Starting from 1:55

I'm 607682101_Screenshot(36).thumb.png.8a5adb4c40dcad39ede6120ce6dd1330.pngtruly sure that 80% of Aserial attacks are Marisa inspired. The Stars, the lasers, the double spark.

Asriel Dreemurr - All Attacks - YouTube , reference for attacks.

That seems like Magic Space "Asteroid Belt" From IN.

Looks like a "Master Spark" inspired attack to me.

Honestly it does get a little ecchi (monster musume is a somewhat horny manga) a character named papi, a harpy proceeds to get groped by another character named suu who is a slime while cosplayed as okuu (suu is the costume since....well she can do stuff no other slime can). Which gets overshadowed by the fact that the manga also did a metal gear solid reference by having snek girl miia hide in a cardboard box

..while also dressed as snake. Yes this is a real thing, if you want I can provide proof

I'm not sure if I want to see the proof but sounds somewhat interesting?

    I'll brace for the worst.

  5. Allow me to go of,

    Unfunny jokes and Gatekeeping

First of all, people might go a bit overboard with the characters in this case, Meiling and Kaguya. I don't really mind if you make the jokes with your friend or with the people on the internet albeit unfunny and annoying. Things start to go downhill once they shoved the joke down through you throat. There's a certain individual in the Touhou fandom that likes to gatekeep content; ruining the fun and characters. His sole purpose is to annoy people and be a obnoxious troll. I'm not really fond of the  (          )guy. He just want reactions, there seems to be a few species that like this kind of content.

Fan works that brings out the youkai aspect too much

There's a fan work that brings out the maximum overdrive level; "Koshi Koshi Heart Throbbing Adventure" mainly know as KKHTA. I don't recommended you reading that if you don't want to get your favorite character to be brutally K.O. (It's even more brutal than Mortal Kombat) A selective amount of people try to milk the trend and makes the people from outside of Touhou to be uncomfortable. Heck, there're people on the youtube section, going off with a "joke" to watch this, giving off uncomfortable vibe for the newcomers and for the curious people. Regarding KKHTA, there's also a japanese fan work similar to this. (I don't really remember, thank god) The more tamer version "Osana Reimu" also hated, since the people assume that the story was emotional. Thus, making fan cry. But as we all know, anything popular gets milk to death and overused. So, the people start to hate the fan work. There's another one that's called "SuikaKasen" which I don't know about.

NSFW Dojinshi and Mommy memes and Fumos

The ones that I absolutely can't stand are the people who use insensitive or nsfw content to make bad jokes. Apart from songs or games, I don't type in anything touhou related on YouTube cause I get awful recommendations after of characters with inappropriate thumbnails. These people give the fandom a bad reputation.

Exactly like Isaac said, they bring bad reputation to the fandom. There is a channel called "XE3G weeb" who milk every single trend that comes to the fandom. "TouHouWiafu1" is also one of them but dedicated to "Mommy memes". I can't stand these fellas, they are the bad apples of the community. (Pun intended).

About the fumos, they are overpriced and sometime come us bootlegs. Not to mention most of them are only exclusive in Japan. It's just dolls with Touhou character on it. The circles once again begin to rotate: those who have the fumo will make fun of those who don't have it and those who make it theirselves spreading wild fire.

    Elitists?

I'm not sure about this one but there's seems to be some people affected by it: the trigger word being "EEEH? Easy Mode?, How Lame! Only Kids Play In Easy Mode" a popular one to set flames to the people outside and inside. This catchphrase is from IOSYS "Overdrive".

In summary, there're good things and bad things as well in the fandom like Yin & Yang. People tend to focus more on the bad things resulting the fandom to riddled with hate once in a while.  Don't forget that there're people who likes to focus on the good things translating to new fans of Touhou.

I love this fan animation too! Seeing the characters and their interactions are always fun and cute.

My favourite touhou M1 Grand Prix is 'Jealousy Star' with Parsee and Yuugi! I love seeing both of them together so much!

I might sound a bit based since I'm a Yuugi enjoyer & a Meiling enthusiast but I've love to see more of them, considering the duo were pretty good. I wondered if they switch the roles to make Parsee the "straight man" and made Yuugi more drunk than usual, the manzai would come out pretty interesting.

    · Yakumo Chen (Ran & Chen, both original and reanimated skits) - classic skits; gave us the famous "CHEEEEEEEEEN" (ちぇえええええええん), and I really love the 6th M-1 Grand Prix skit in which Chen is writing the letter in front of the parents and classmates (so much Yukari dissing...)

That one right there is my favorite skit of all time. The classic one give off the nostalgic vibe with "CHEEEEEEEEN", the 6th M-1 comes unexpected, Chen drops bars that even Yukari can't recover the burns.

"2nd Touhou M-1 Grand Prix - "Yakumo Chen" Touhou Q&A About Anything" was the funniest one out of all. They answered the Q&A from the manual book. (It was most likely written by Yukari) Memorable lines for me were:

Ran: "you're cute so, I'll forgive you Chen."

    ==============================

Chen: "Is Lady Mima in Hyogo?"

Ran: "Yes. Bellco has a branch there, right?" "She works at their funeral home."

    ==============================

Ran: "Yes, that would be me, Ran Yakumo."

Chen: "Ah, you were asked "Who is the strongest beast in Gensokyo?" right?"

Ran: "No, no. "Who has the biggest bust in Gensokyo?"

    Chen: "Lady Ran?"

Ran: "No mistake. I've calculated it carefully."

    ===============================

There're more that I like but I'm about to attend a class. So, there's not much time left. The Questions were ridiculous and the answers are even more bizarre. The non-stop questions part was so intense and the questions begins to repeat resulting an even more diverting situation. The ending sequence is one of the smoothest I've seen in a while.

    Spoiler

Wasn't this thread empty a month ago, the shrine does have something usual going on in a good way. When the forum gets active, things are bound to get interesting.

I will start with talking about my country, Romania:

We are a small-medium nation just at the border of the Balkans with Eastern Europe. In general, foreign pop culture used to, and still does, comes with a very long delay, sometimes of even 5-10 years. When we were getting cartoons as children, many of them were already at their god knows how much-th rerun in th US and the West (yes, we grew up with Cartoon Network, Getix and later Disney Channel in the early 2000s), and we were never getting a full series, just a few seasons that were dubbed. Anime broadcasting was not a thing, at least not since the end of 1990s on Romanian television. Even today, many people would not understand if you made a reference from a foreign series, as nowadays it is mostly on us, the teenagers, thanks to the internet, to see what is going on outside.

And for this reason, for a lot of time, I thought Touhou would be a completely niche series, that nobody heard of. Things changed though when I found out apparently there is a Romanian Discord server dedicated to Touhou and its community. The series is still very much underground here, as our pop culture seems to be very much still isolationist (possibly a result of 45 years of communism, followed by 30 years of uncertain democracy), and so people were not too interested in foreign pop culture.

Anyway, a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one:

My turn, good sir! In my country (Myanmar):

there aren't many "anime fan" overall. Most of my people taste in content is a bit "thought-provoking" if I have to say so. Foreign culture usually comes in a very long delay in my country like yours. (Bouns points if it's from the west: we haven't had anything from the west for 4 years.) For the cartoons, I grew up with Nickelodeon, Cartoon Networks & Getix and some Disney Cartoon but they are not fully subbed most of time. Thus, 8 year old me didn't understand anything at all. Anime Broad Casting wasn't in my town, until 2010 in Myanmar television. Truly, the people at my town won't know anything, if you reference a cartoon or jokes from a western series.            (I really want them to know Tom & Jerry, Spongbob, all the good stuff.) I might have to wait seven full blue moons to find a friend that can finally get what I'm talking about.

Like Yin & Yang, if there's good, there's must also be the bad. I'm a bit jealous that there's a dedicated Discord Sever in your country. While most of my people don't even now what discord is and swifts to Facebook like there's a light shining around it.

Huh, you very much remind me of a comment received on Reddit once I started the discussion there too. It was also about Cirno.

Oh, I presume touhou enjoyers have the same thought process every once in a while.

About Mamizou, she appears in the canon work 80% of the time but in fanon, it's very rare to see her in the wild. I thought it's somewhat related to fanservice one way or another at least in Zun's view. (Wait doesn't this belong to another discussion)

Luckily, my best friend is also a Touhou fan. I managed to drag him in get him back into the series (he knew about Touhou a few years prior, but never got too much into it) soon after I got in, and ever since both of us enjoy. We have different tastes, but this has been common ground for us, and it's been quite fun to play some of the games (or at least trying to...)

You sir have a very good friend. I wondered to this day by myself if I could drag my best friend to Touhou before he transferred school and moving on. He was very passionate about Shoot 'em up too. If I can meet him one day, I'd definitely tell him all about Touhou.

    Spoiler

Since then, I don't have any best friend anymore. Most of my so-called "childhood friends" abandoned me, to put a salt on the wound, my recent "childhood friend" and I met up on online but he pull a "last seen 10 years ago stunt."

Well, if you consider this active forum as your friends. I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. if not, I'll make it feel like a friday night.

  10. I don't know how to put it in words but I'll try my best to be precise.

There's a lot more fanservice to than just your "typical exposure". I wondered if the purpose of fanservice is that it's supposed to pander to the fans. For example a character that the fans love in this case, "Cirno". She was in Hisoutensoku, Great Fairy War and Hidden Star in Four Seasons and in Perfect memento In Strict Sense albeit she was hardly important in Gensokyo settings. Thus, making her the fanservice character of 9 ball jokes.

Oh Von, I've a got surprise for you but I can't remember the name of the manzai.

I've got it now! it's "5th Touhou M-1 Grand Prix Extra - Flan's Comedy Training School" That one sits on my favorite playlist. The punchline was so good, even after I revisited it a fourth time.

Oh man I've actually been watching through the full versions recently (absolutely recommend if you can get them).

You mean the 1 hour ones right? Then, I faintly remember watching the 10th or 11th, the one with "Winged Beast Instrument" on Youtube though, I can't seem to find it at the moment.

Anyway, what are some of your favorite skits, and what did you like most about them?

Oh Von, I've a got surprise for you but I can't remember the name of the manzai.

It was with Crino, and Flan. Flan pulls out a radio. On the radio a man was saying "Look at me Bastard", "Punk", "I'm going to beat you" something along the lines of that. And Cirno imitates the "Bastard" & "Punk" part in japanese. Due to her voice being soft, she was saying faint "BaakaaYaadoooorr" "KooonooYaaadooorrr" . Her sounding like a chicken got me cracking. But the cherry on top was the whole time sakuya reminds them that "There're guests donwstairs so, don't make too much noise", but flan was "yeah, they will go away" and turns to Cirno saying we got a manzai to do. The thing that got me is that the guests misunderstood the whole thing in downstair as the radio was so loud. They thought someone was saying "bastard" and "punk" to them.

That whole thing was genius no matter how you look at it. Thus, It became my top 3 favorite manzai.

Totally agree with you Von. This filled me with smiles & laughter for a very long time. I see our tastes aren't much not different at all!

    · Iku and Tenshi's skit from 16th M-1 Grand Prix - probably my favorite skit of the entire 16th edition. Iku's rage moment was both funny, with her getting fed up with Tenshi's BS, but also felt a little threatening. Which I liked a lot.

The first time I watched that, I was wondering when will Iku lose her cool and Tenshi being Tenshi annoys the heck out of her. Tenshi reaction after receiving the punch was priceless.

On 3/10/2022 at 8:22 PM, CountVonNumenor said:

    · Spin Kappa (Nitori & Hina, 5th and 6th M-1 Grand Prix) - I like the interactions between Nitori and Hina, and to be honest, I really cannot imagine Nitori with any other voice but the one from the skits

The gags are so good here. I love the moment where Hina & Nitori changed roles in the shop skit. Nitori was teaching Hina the tactics of a well rounded business man woman: taking advantage of a un-aware costumers. When Hina tried the tactics against her she got a classic "Boot ball to head" making her spin. The execution was so good that I fell out of my chair spinning myslef to the ground.

Off topic: "Boot to the Head" MMD versions make me like Yuuka smiling so hard.

anything involving Binary Drop (Eiki & Komachi, 6th and 11th M-1 Grand Prix) - quite interesting to see Komachi in the "straight man" role; also the whole skit with Eiki wishing to get a tattoo had me laugh all the way through

Yes, that was so spectacular that it's one of my favorites. The whole point of Eiki wanting to get a tattoo was so interesting so, I kept watching & she got a 7 eleven tattoo. That's when my mother heard unknown sounds of a high-pitch chicken squawks. Eiki at one point got the most style points out of the 11th manzai. She looks so cool with the golden dress, as for the following moments with Komachi being a straight "man" it blew me out of the water, I was putting my bets on the Yama herself. Then my father heard a mysterious noises of a old man faint laughs.

I've to refresh my memory so, I'll go visit the Manzais again. Until then, stay put and tune in for more in the following day.

Oh wait! does stand up comedy like (manzai) count? If so, Official R-NOTE might be the answer I'm looking for. (This could very well be a forum of its own) Often, they have japanese oriented jokes but the gags were so funny that I fell out of the chair. One of my favourite is

So basically, it is made so that ertsin fans can fulfil their fantasies, which is again quite messes up in my opinion

This point I've wondered for a while; why do they always draw the faceless protag? to self-insert myself in, no for the sake of the Lord above, can they just draw normal eyes and move on. ( not the snake face; bald villager either) Just because fans can finally fulfil their "fantasy" which is, then again, quite messed up in my opinion like yours do.

For me, I think she doesn't wear pants most of the time. For the other half, I believe she just wears it when she feels like it. She may wear pants on her duty. My own head cannon is 60% no pants & 40% pants for the time being.
