How would you feel if there is a male character in a touhou game?

Yes, we have Singyoku, Genji and Rinnosuke, but the first two where in PC-98 era and the last being available in manga. So, if somehow Jun'ya decided to make a male character for a new touhou game, how would you feel?

I'd be a bit surprised (I mean, Zun didn't bother making male after all this time, so why would he suddenly start), but in the end it really boils down to the character being interesting, regardless of their gender (we got plenty of uninteresting girls in Touhou. Just because they're girl doesn't make them automatically interesting).

From the official material at least, I think it is safe to assume that even if a male character was introduced, it would not change the usual character dynamics (i.e: no romance or anything).

I think it would be nice, because it's rare to think of a male character. Firstly, the ones who are in the series are not that relevant xd. And then, from all the touhou characters in general, at least for me, the idea of introducing a male character sounds a bit strange XD.

But if a male character came out as playable in any th, I think it would be interesting to see it. So until that happens, I'll keep this in mind.

Short answer, I'm not strictly against it but I prefer female characters, for reasons. About 34 of them, as a rule.

Long answer, I doubt Zun would ever do it. Apparently the final boss of Undefined Fantastical Object was originally intended as Myouren Hijiri, but Zun thought it would be weird to have an old man as a final boss in a Touhou game. To the best of my knowledge, that's the closest we ever got to a plot-relevant male character in the games. What male characters there are tend to either be inhuman antagonists, one-panel characters in manga or plot devices for relevant characters. To the point there are six male characters in the games named.

Still, while seeing a character like Jojo drawn in Zun's style would be funny, I am not sure he would be up to the challenge even if he wanted to. The only male character he's drawn I know of is an evil cloud. While I would not be against it if they were visually appealing and interesting characters, I would be lying if I said Zun's style could translate well to male characters. He would have to be careful about which characters he portrayed as well. If Youki was in the next game, and he was just some guy instead of Youmu's kindly grandfather, I would be disappointed no matter the quality of Zun's work.
