Musical Discoveries in Touhou Fandom

Starchemy - The Final Blood Moon
"Trance-like" it may be, but the soundfonts really remind me of chiptune hybrid. In any case, hard to go wrong with a "Septette" remix; I appreciate the low tone mixed with high tempo in this take (probably the nature of the genre, but I don't claim to know).

Yellow Zebra - SEA TRIPPER!
From the intro alone, one might guess this was a "Murasa" arrangement. The flow of performance puts this close to 'tournament worthy' for me, though I wish I could find the lyrics.

Zing - Memento of All Organisms
Just happening to catch Zing on return, and with quite the ambitious full-flavor production if I perceive things correctly. I'll be keeping an eye on this channel for sure now.

Kiraniya - Hiroari Shoots a Strange Bird
"Audacious" was the word that occurred to me, but in an admiring sense; the start is so unassuming, I simply wasn't prepared for where it went. I'm used to this genre sacrificing all semblance of melody for impact, but this performance preserves it instead; turns out that's very effective. Henceforth I may point to this as my standard for the style.

udongear - Omniscience
Labeled "chiptune," and it technically is, only it's not trying overly hard to sound like it, which ironically makes it stand out a bit more. Quite the creative take on the source motifs, too.

Plazzap & Artifex - Nostalgic Lamentation
Been holding this for far too long; by far my favorite composition from this album, possibly the entire Consonances & Dissonances library. The title is a perfect summation of what the performance sounds like: reflective, with equal parts fondness and regret; the perfect encapsulation of memory.

Saroth - Silk Road Alice
Surely I've shared Saroth's work here before? But searching doesn't turn anything up . . . Well, about time then. The musician's repertoire goes quite a bit beyond Touhou (I think my first encounter was regarding Cave Story), and at all times involves intricate chiptune performances worthy of the genre's best.

KevNewgraha - A Midsummer Fairy's Dream
Proof that quality arrangements aren't defined by their soundfonts. Maybe it's the mastering, or some technique of experience, but whatever the reason I can hear and appreciate the difference it makes.

AIKA - The Grimoire of Alice
A proper hard-hitter to wrap up. There's aspects to this form of EDM progression that I normally dislike, but they're employed more tastefully here than usual; I would that other musicians in the genre arranged in similar manner.
