Fanservice in Touhou, at least as much as I have seen yet

(I'd admit that I'll go into to the non-safe doujins but not with the excuse of the "I read it because of the story" or "cause I'm bored lol".) With that out of the way No.3.

This point I've wondered for a while; why do they always draw the faceless protag? to self-insert myself in, no for the sake of the Lord above, can they just draw normal eyes and move on. ( not the snake face; bald villager either) Just because fans can finally fulfil their "fantasy" which is, then again, quite messed up in my opinion like yours do.

ASMR? I believe I've heard of it oh, yes! Arni Village. They've tons of quality work there. I'd recommended you to give it a try.

Oh wait! does stand up comedy like (manzai) count? If so, Official R-NOTE might be the answer I'm looking for. (This could very well be a forum of its own) Often, they have japanese oriented jokes but the gags were so funny that I fell out of the chair. One of my favourite is

Kyouko and Mystia, Hina and Nitori. I can't remember their stage names for some reason. Might be Winged Beast Instruments & Spin Kappa?
My head's completely empty like an infamous ice fairy for now.

I actually wrote an entire thread dedicated to the Touhou M1 Grand Prix, and talking a bit about some of my favorite skits. It...didn't really get any traction. However, you got the team names correctly.

Hm, I wonder what meme value is there in that "hey, mister" doujin. Not as much as in the "I've been surrounded by raging lesbians!" one... or that's what I'd like to believe...

Personally, the most suprising pieces of fanservice in canon works are:
- jiggly Byakuren in HM-style fighting games - and her rider suit in ULiL (like, that was not expected)
- in one of the magazines, there was some partial pantyshot of one of the tengus... forgot the details.

As for the more controversial subjects... my conditions for naughty doujins are similar... and my knowledge of the stance of Japanese popculture on this worries me greatly... I'd rather not see some sort of crackdown on "Japanophiles", in search for easy targets. Japan doesn't live in another universe, it just has a different perspective on things. That's why the "hey, mister" meme, as much as it amuses me, it also irks me... because it feels like it's based on some "forbidden" (at least in our culture) knowledge.

Not sure if it's relevant to this topic but I remembered last year (around May) I did a Pixiv search to see which character has the most horny art. Because.

This is the top 50 I think? (Left one by total; right one by percentage of all works)

But for me, I think I'd be satisfied with just seeing a mature, tall and dignified Eiki in general. Or just an Akyuu that looks like her canonical 27 years old (if she would indeed look like a mature woman, and manga just went for clasic manga artistic/stylistic liberties and make everyone look younger than supposed to be). That would be enough fan service.

Watching again through Touhou M-1 Grand Prix (at least the videos available on YouTube), there have been some moments I might call fanservice, but which were played for laughs, and so I am perfectly fine with then:

  • in Spin Kappa - "Mischievous Kappa" (M-1 Grand Prix 6th Edition): one of the scenes has Nitori basically stripping Hina behind a semi-transparent paravan and body-painting her. It took me a while to realize it was actually just body paint, but Hina was actually looking ver good in the "sports outfit" (bonus for the following "FIGHT ON, CHIKUWA CLUB!" gag)



  • in Binary Drop - "Last Brutal Manzai" (M1 Grand Prix 12th Edition finals): I guess Eiki barely being covered with a towel for most of the video while nervously waiting for a tattoo counts? Also in universe, I guess the public might have had a great time at the end seeing her "bear her body to assert dominance".



  • in YuuTen Paradise - "Handling Fans" (M-1 Grand Prix 9th Edition): Tenshi decides to take a shower live, in front of the audience, to because she thought she was not "clean enough/disinfected" before the dialogue with Yuuka. And have the second have of their skit. All I can say is "suddenly yuri". Again, the reactions of the auditorium might have been interesting, even if everyone tried to hide it. Also Yuuka: "Is it a problem if I got excited?"



  • in Cat Stone - "Battle at Ganryu Island" (M01 Grand Prix 4th edition): Koishi and Orin are trying to reenact a famous sword duel, and somehow the two of them end up with V-necks o their kimonos. Blurred boobs ensues, and Orin asking if it's not "too gory" - "Isn't that too gory?! / Why would we have V-necks? / V-necks are awesome! / Aren't our ●● hanging out? / Don't say that! / With these V-necks."



  • in Purely Hell - "Quick and Efficient Purification Manzai" (M-1 Grand Prix 11th Edition) - not to that much of an extent, but it was funny to see Junko and Hecatia arguing over a T-shirt, with Jun looking the wrong way when in a discussion. Also, apparently there is " Hentai of Junko from the Xia dynasty or something" on the (in-universe) M-1 Grand Prix page. Verdict: unexpected T-shirt pulling & abuse/10 (just kidding, the skit in itself has been extremely fun to watch)

Interesting posts! I think I have heard somewhere about this comic before, and the fact it counts as a Touhou reference. So I guess it can be counted as a bit of fanservice for both series. 

 have honestly focused so much of the "horny type" of fanservice so much, yet I forgot there are so many other kinds of dong it. But if I brought that up, I went again through Alternative Facts in Eastern Utopia, and found some... interesting stuff going on there.

There's a lot more fanservice to than just your "typical exposure". I wondered if the purpose of fanservice is that it's supposed to pander to the fans. For example a character that the fans love in this case, "Cirno". She was in Hisoutensoku, Great Fairy War and Hidden Star in Four Seasons and in Perfect memento In Strict Sense albeit she was hardly important in Gensokyo settings. Thus, making her the fanservice character of 9 ball jokes.

Oh, I presume touhou enjoyers have the same thought process every once in a while. 

About Mamizou, she appears in the canon work 80% of the time but in fanon, it's very rare to see her in the wild. I thought it's somewhat related to fanservice one way or another at least in Zun's view. (Wait doesn't this belong to another discussion)

Honestly it does get a little ecchi (monster musume is a somewhat horny manga) a character named papi, a harpy proceeds to get groped by another character named suu who is a slime while cosplayed as okuu (suu is the costume since....well she can do stuff no other slime can). Which gets overshadowed by the fact that the manga also did a metal gear solid reference by having snek girl miia hide in a cardboard box

..while also dressed as snake. Yes this is a real thing, if you want I can provide proof
