Comfort Characters?

See how the tables have turned
got nothing to make a comeback, your the one here the real maiden, im a disposable youkai

Touhou 15 as a first game is kind of a heroic move, isn't?
i got in touhou because of music, it was like 2 ~ 3 years ago somehow, with the theme of clown piece, pierrot... and found the games, it took me some months to complete it with sanae without bombs, was one of the best experience ngl i have had in all my years of gaming haha

I "have play them", yes. All except touhou HRTP. I'm not a pro, but I do play 'em pretty often.

The Old World's resident doesn't know much except for it being a Russian puppet
I've played nearly all of the Touhou games at least once.

Do you guys have any Touhou characters (or fictional characters generally) that you would consider comfort characters? In terms of Touhou (which I just started getting back into), mine are Patchouli Knowledge (because we're both hermits who spend our days reading/studying all the time), Alice Margatroid (because she's English themed and as a Anglo-Japanese guy I love English-themed characters in anime/games). My headcanon is that both of these characters are autistic. I also really like Sakuya Izayoi due to her introducing me to Touhou. Outside of Touhou I love Lain from Serial Experiments Lain and Saber from the Fate Series. I really like learning about people's comfort characters so I would be interested in seeing what characters people like.
Yeah, for me its Hisami Yomotsu from the nineteenth entry of touhou. it also happened to me when i got into touhou, and especially my favorite types of them were the split screen ones, its a fun idea and all. i just felt like "oh yea! this character's sick! i must read more into this- shes a masochist?" and i thought that shes a very unique fleshed out character that would be comforting in any way. i mean just look at her! :]

Hmmm...Very interesting choice. I'm more familiar with games 6-11 as I believe that's when Touhou peaked but I agree that this character looks cool af. Although I don't really like it when the eyes are covered.

In my opinion, all the Touhou entries are amazing! Although, i feel like the entries from 06-08 felt a bit.. blinding by nostalgia? I mean i know, from that era the characters are the most known, but i just feel more interest in the newer ones, plus i like unpopular things! (And yeah, her flaw is being absolutely thrown off with the flower hat.. Nonetheless i love Hisami in all aspects!)

They're not bad but I definitely believe that 6-11 is where it peaked in terms of character designs imo. When you have a series like Touhou which features that many characters, most of them end up being just ok, with only a select few being goated.

Yeah no i agree, the characters are awesome, one of my favs from that era being Sakuya, i just felt appealed to the idea of "time stopping maid that serves a vampire", i guess ZUN was and IS still unique with his ideas.

I definitely agree with the idea of all of the Touhou games being amazing. As I'm not blinded by nostalgia since I came to Touhou later, I have more leeway for not just the older games, but the modern games too. UDoALG was the first Touhou game I was capable of playing properly (and Zanmu was the first Touhou boss I beat), but despite that, I do tend to have a preference for the older games regardless, mainly because they feel largely "dreamlike" to me and the music in them (especially in regards to EoSD, PCB and PoFV) are among my favorite Touhou themes. Still, as I said before, I have leeway in regards to the more modern Touhou games considering I don't have nostalgia for all of them. And it shows in that DDC, LoLK, and HSiFS are among my favorite Touhou games. DDC in regards to story, characters, and especially music, LoLK in regards to story, Junko and music, and HSiFS in regards to story and characters (especially with Okina).

You know what, now that you mention the dreamlike feeling, i guess i agree! I, in general just love the gameplay physics and mostly im a sucker for the stories, the music is good, dont get me wrong.. I know ZUN makes Touhou to promote the songs, but its mostly overlooked by remixes.

One of the primary reasons I love the games themselves so much is because of how amazing all of the bullet patterns and such look. The atmosphere in most Touhou games either feels "cinematic", or as I said before "dream-like". It's very unique, and combined with the story and characters of the games, is why I prefer to try to press on with the stages despite how hard they can be for me. Many of the appearances of the stages are truly unforgettable (if you can take your eyes off the 1,000 bullets flying at you for a few seconds lol). It really gives a "land of fantasy and wonder" to me. I've genuinely been awestruck at some of the bullet patterns in the games even just playing on easy.

Yknow what, your right! In my opinion the first beautiful bullet pattern for me was one of Meiling's..
Cant say much about others, but obviously they are just as good! Still gets overwhelming after seeing them for like 20 seconds..

Despite me stating that HSiFS is among my favorite Touhou games primarily in regards to story and characters, the music in the game has among my favorite melodies of pretty much all of the Touhou games (especially in regards to Okina's themes, Mai and Satono's theme, and most of the stage themes). I just had forgotten to underscore how much the game's musical melodies contribute to my overall favoritism of the game. It gives a pretty eerie tone (especially with the later stages) which fits the game and Okina very well. I love that clash of the light-hearted sounding parts with the creepy and eerie ones. While the instruments for the music to me don't sound the best in the game, even still, they contribute immensely to that creepy and sort of "off" atmosphere and to the theme of the game.
