Touhou lost media

So I continue searching through Internet Archive, and found this interesting archive:

https://archive.org/details/koumakyou_old_patches

This one was posted by user touhou-memories (can't confirm whether they're the same person running this blog), which contains the following patches:

kouma_update009a_010

kouma_update010_010a

kouma_update011_012

kouma_update012_013

I'm not sure if they're legit or not, but they do seem to follow the same logic as the updater for version 1.02g and 1.02h.

They do not work with trial v0.08p, and based on the naming of these patches, we'll need v0.09a for the first two patches, and v0.11 for the third one (omitted update 0.12-0.13 because 0.13 is already available).
Thank you very much! Already added.

Recently I decided to find lost media on warosu and Touhou Grand Fangames List. That also led me to other sites with lost media, so I have found a lot of links for a major update. Everything listed below is already added to list (the first post in this topic).

What was added:

Games:
HRtP ver 1.00
C60 trial version of Kioh Gyoku
Project Gian - Shuusou Gyoku Prototype
Neo Gian ~ Shuusou Gyoku
東方燐迷歌 ~ Phosphorus Hesitates Song
Groovy ちるの (Groovy Cirno)
東方秋神録 ~ Every day of Autumn (FOUND)
群弾 (The Crowd Shooting)
東方黒封戯 (Touhoukokuhuugi)
東方賽銭箱
さなシュー (Sanae Shooting)
東方佰鬼録 ~Guest from devildom~
イラスト by D.C.S.

Touhou Fan Anime:
A lot of new information about Anime Tenchou x Touhou Project (new images, info + art book)
わりと動く同人誌 (+ わりと動く同人誌2 and わりと動く同人誌3)
+ some archives of obscure versions of Touhou fan anime

Other media:
Touhou Clock
メイドさんの日々 DVD by colonel_AKI

Animations:
[東方] ハルノカケラ (the first ever Touhou 3D animation (2005))
Archive of Touhou flashes. May contain non-Touhou stuff.
A lot of info about lost Touhou MMDs

This is really interesting to look at. Lost media is always fun to explore, and knowing there are Touhou ones out there is really cool. although it makes sense since touhou has been a huge fanbase since 2001 (i know touhou has existed since 1997 but i'm talking about when the first windows release came out) Good luck on your investigation!

Hello. Here is a small update.
Recently, I was searching for info about Project Noise / Akizora Synthesis (their games are somewhat Touhou inspired. You can download them from their site, but you need passwords which you can get only from them on Comiket. They still attend them, so you can technically get them). During the research I found out that there was a collaboration among Amusement Makers and nearly unknown ち~むぽらりす (Team Polaris) ( http://polarisam.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-2.html ), and they made an STG which was called Blood_is_Thicker_than_Water. The problem is that there is no way to play this game now: all download links (even to trial versions) are lost. And I didn't manage to find any gameplay videos, only screenshots. So yes, it is lost media. (Team Polaris also tried to make one more game, but it was never finished)

Now I wonder how many there are Touhou inspired games and fangames (needless to say about other doujin games) which were nearly unnoticed.

Other updates:
Also 日陰サバイバン (Phoenix Wright x Touhou game) is lost
TheCritical restored their channels

Hello. Another update.
I found two interesting projects by http://lunarcast.net which were lost.

One of them is an attempt to fully remake Danmakufu (Danmakufu EX), but the download link was removed. More info:
https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Touhou_Danmakufu_Remake
http://lunarcast.net/danmakufu.php
http://web.archive.org/web/20221211045727/http://file.lunarcast.net/danmaku/latest.zip (lost)

Sadly, this project is lost. What actually surprises me is that other old forgotten danmaku engines such as Danmagine and Musuu no Danmaku are still possible to download and use. But only Danmakufu and LuaSTG survived the test of time. (actually there is also Danmokou but it is not well-known)

Another project is really unique. It was named Touhou Danmaku RPG and it tried to combine RPG and Danmaku battles like in mainline games. This project looked quite interesting but Tom decided to cancel this project and move to Danmakufu EX; and, sadly, none of these projects were finished. More info:
https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Danmaku_RPG
https://gitlab.com/LunarCast/Modular-Engine/ (lost)
http://web.archive.org/web/20200215162050/http://file.lunarcast.net/th_rpg/latest/ (lost)
https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,21044.0.html

The only similar project I can name is Mystery of the Fairy Rebellion (MotFR). It surprises me that there are not that many projects which try to combine these. (because when I heard about Touhou for the first time (I knew about Undertale by that time) I thought that Touhou was an RPG with bullet hell battles. But I like Touhou the way it is)

That is all for now.

Alright, as part of research to create a timeline for fan activity within Western Touhou Fandom, I discovered a some neat info about a lost Touhou circle called Distant Union.

Distant Union was a circle in the United States that published physical Touhou fan books alongside pdfs online. This was paired with an online store site called Doublepuma Store. Distant Union appeared to be active from 2013 to 2014.

https://web.archive.org/web/20141221052720/http://distantunion.com/works.html
https://web.archive.org/web/20130520135541/http://doublepuma.bigcartel.com/
https://doublepuma.com/doujin/

The members involved within the circle, going by the their work’s credits, included Leo Modesto, Rubin, Jelajade, Siegmund, and DL.

As for who these members were, they were all artists that did Touhou art and were all once active on Tumblr.

Leo Modesto is now called Lina, who was the creator of the Ask Udonge blog.

https://www.tumblr.com/rabbitlegs

Rubin is an artist and was also the creator of the Ask Kogasa blog.

Jelajade is an artist who now works on comics.

Siegmund is an artist.

Works

Update: All of their works can be downloaded on: https://doublepuma.com/doujin/works.html

The spoiler below describes secondhand accounts on the works before the discoveries of Distant Union's works themselves, so it has been kept for historical usefulness.

Raiders of the Lost Ask Box by Leo Modesto can be found on Lina’s Art Gallery

The Gensokyo Menagerie Vol. 1 and The Gensokyo Menagerie Vol. 2 were collaborative fan books, though only their cover images remain thanks to Touhou Tuesday. He mentioned he loved the scrabble story and the story about Wriggle and Yamame in The Gensokyo Menargerie Vol. 2.

Over My Hot Youkai Body by Jelajade appears to have no record online left, so this work has become completely lost media.

Lina’s Art Gallery has two other Touhou pools called One Awkward Visit (2013) and Youmu's Birthday (2013) which were both stated to be published in a fan book, likely in one of the Gensokyo Menagerie volumes.

Connections
It appears that Touhou Tuesday had some connection with Leo Modesto as there are podcast episodes and Facebook posts where he advertises to his audience to buy Raiders of the Lost Ask Box and The Gensokyo Menagerie Vol. 1. He also did an interview with Leo Modesto.

Lastly, Rubin appeared at Anime Boston 2014 for the Touhou Panel where she cites her experience with Ask Touhou Tumblr blogs and Distant Union.

All in all, Distant Union was and still is as of 2024 the only Touhou circle in the United States that has published Touhou fan books. The only other Touhou circle in the United States I know of is Fantasy Mechanics, which deals with fangame creation instead of fan books.

Hello, Pinky Cat! Welcome to the Moriya Shrine forum. I have seen your list of Touhou links, it is great. I hope your researches on Touhou fandom go well.

Thank you for your post. Your researches on Distant Union are really impressive. I have not heard about this circle before. You found a lot of interesting information about them. I can only congratulate you.

Distant Union's lost media is added to the first post.

Hello. This is probably not lost media at all. I just noticed this game on the list of lost games. I hope I helped in some way. The game 群弾 (The Crowd Shooting) can be downloaded from this link:

There is also gameplay on YouTube:

Thank you very much for finding this. I somehow missed this when I was collecting info about it. I am really sorry for this.
Moriya Shrine does not have the latest version of the game. The updater can be downloaded here (took here).

If you notice any other mistake in the list, please write about it.

Found some info about Sanae Shooting, namely a trailer for the game itself and a couple more things.
The site with the demo version has a Falsh player element. When trying to play it using an emulator, it gives an error. The error shows that the player had a link to a video from Niconico embedded in it. And the video itself is gameplay by the game developer.
Here is the video itself and a link to the channel:

The author also has a page on Pixiv. Here is the link:

And I can also share some promo art of the game.

Hi, I want to share my findings again.

https://gensokyo.club/ - there are several saved pages. Here is one of them:
https://web.archive.org/web/20230603190106/https://gensokyo.club/main/all
Most likely it was some kind of forum or something like that.

東方] ハルノカケラ (the first ever Touhou 3D animation (2005) - found this video on YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePuDoSKPrq4

東方秋神録 ~ Every day of Autumn - are you sure you found the game? There is only a demo version on the site and I can't download it. I tried to go to other versions of the page, but all to no avail.

And a little about Sanae Shooting. In addition to Pixiv, the author has other social networks, such as Twitter. They can be found in the author's blog:
https://web.archive.org/web/20131211064653/http://tofuyasanae.blogspot.com/

Again thank you very much for your information!

So this is just another Akkoma instance. There are some alternatives like this and this.

東方秋神録 ~ Every day of Autumn - are you sure you found the game? There is only a demo version on the site and I can't download it. I tried to go to other versions of the page, but all to no avail.
There are a lot of torrent mirrors of demo version of this game from Comiket on btdig.
The game was discontinued and only demo version exists. But you can listen to ost here.

Everything added to the list.

Hello. There is a little summary of changes in list in July and August.

First of all I want to thank again Pinky Cat and Denist for helping with this list and finding new info:
Fan books by Distant Union, The Crowd Shooting, Sanae Shooting, gensokyo.club and other media.

Other lost media:
Roka Enzaki's channel was deleted with a lot of Touhou Styled Music.
Sadly, Suika Ibuki channel hid all videos because of copyright strikes.

Added a lot of info about lost fan anime: Touhou HakureisouDanmaku!! Animated SeriesMeteors of Triple Dimension.

Added more info about Nikenme Radio streams and Which Came First, Hakurei Kannushi's Games or Beer? (I want arts from this one)
Thanks to the document by Mad_Dog_of_Fujiwara and her lore den (it seems like they are the only ones who gathered info about these in one place).

That's all for now.

Hi, long time no see! This time there will be very few, and very dubious, but still finds.

1: Touhou on nicktoons???
I found a video from one guy, where they supposedly show a fan animation of touhou on Nicktoons. At the same time, he called the video lost media, and in the description it says that he downloaded it from some remote site. Honestly, it looks very much like a fake, but I decided to share. I would not pay much attention to this, if the same video was not posted on another channel. Here's the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0b0efh64Qg
https://youtube.com/shorts/NYxQemsnqMw?si=8ZuClr7hvzQ689rC
https://youtu.be/mXhaZbv-m1s?si=DYYf8jT8BmMesIu5

2: KKHTA P*rn...
Someone drew p*rn art based on KKHTA. It got noticed on Reddit. However, after some time, the author deleted the art. All that remains is a part of the art itself, its saved page on the Wayback Machine, which only shows a white background, and another version of the full art. Here are the links:
Reddit post - https://www.reddit.com/r/Touhou_NSFW/comments/o37qx5/kkhta_sanae/
Original link to the page with the art - https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/81905628
Saved page - https://web.archive.org/web/20210619040807/https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/81905628
Another version of the full art - https://rule***34.us/index.php?r=posts/view&id=4766899

Don't ask me how I found this...

1: Touhou on nicktoons???
The original animation is Sakuya Izayoi Rampage.
Looks like those videos are fake, because I have found no mentions of Touhou on Nicktoons on sites from 2010 (the claimed year of publication) to 2014.
But I added it anyway.

2: KKHTA P*rn...
Never thought about adding such stuff, I know there is a lot of lost media like this.

I am not sure about adding this one, but if you insist I will add it.

(funny thing, I think I heard about this before... And I saw similar content in ZUN-style, yeah...)
