Touhou 6: Koumakyou - The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil

Touhou 6: Koumakyou - The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil

Anyone know where I can (safely) find a completely unpatched download of the game? You see, a while back I came across this old Compaq computer still running Windows 2K on it. I originally was just going to use it to practice installing Linux, but I recently had the thought that there's a possibility that it could run EoSD without any of the patches needed to make it work properly on modern computers Windows 10 or 11. Now I am quite curious, and desire to try/test it out, seeing if I actually can get the game in question (EoSD) running without patches on the machine in question (old Compaq computer); the older the game version the better. So once again, if anyone here knows where I can (safely) find a download for the game that dose not come already patched right out of the box, it would be greatly appreciated. Any other thoughts or advice on this potential "experiment" would also be appreciated.

(Please don't "speak" with Clause speech) Maybe you can try all the tricks like internet archive, try using the patched file and reverse it somehow. Perhaps, simply just use all the sketchy sites and hope n' "pray" that it shall not contain malware.

Question, I finally want to begin where it all started, but I'm not understanding why people are saying they got viruses and trojans? I'm for sure windows or microsoft defender or other virus defenders would know if it's bad correct? Also, I have not heard of moriya shrine having virus downloads so this confuses me.

Sometimes, it's ZUN's coding that triggers some AVs, but it can also be thcrap. If I remember right, thcrap injects itself into the Touhou game in some way, which is similar to what some malware does. Plus we sometimes encrypts the uploads, which can be seen as suspicious, but I was told it's so that some AVs won't automatically delete the file with a false positive and give the user time to whitelist the folder where they wanna unpack it. But I don't know all the reasons behind why some AVs have false-positives.

Very small error in rank description. The description implies that deathbombs decrease rank by 16. When in truth it doesn't. just like any bomb use. It decreases rank by a value of 2. This was an error that I found about in touhou wiki. If you add a rank display mod with thcrap it will show you how rank behaves. there are very specific stuff that decreases rank by a bit but overall it should be mentioned that bombs, whether with a deathbomb or not decrease rank by 2.

I have encountered a lot of problems trying to get this to work on windows XP, need help because i haven't been able to work around it for a few days. Hoping someone knows anything about these.

First, whenever I try to open the "Touhou06.exe", it tries to install the microsoft visual C++ 2015-2019 x86, but fails and tells me that it "has encountered a problem and has to close". I've tried to Install older versions of this redist, but all of them showed the same popup.

Second problem is I can't launch the game itself (with the japanese name), it shows an error with alot of gibberish (I'm on English locale), but it mentions something about "data/wav/plst00.wav".

I don't know about the Visual C++ issue, but for the gibberish and /data/wav error, I was able to find a ShrineMaiden thread. I'd first try putting your locale to Japanese or emulating it.

Changing the locale alone wasn't enough, had to change the language for unicode programs too. I also managed to install the 2015-2019 redist after even more digging, but thcrap still turns out with an error.. literally clueless
