Torm don't ever do that again

A site takedown is the laziest and worst "prank" you could do. There's nothing really funny about it, you either upset a lot of people or inconvenience others that want to download something. Of course people would legit panic at the event of a Touhou site that has archives of the games, fangames and OSTs is gone. Myrient being shutdown also fueled this understandable fear that much of Touhou's content is now lost forever. Really careless of this site to shutdown while that was going on.
1) You can be much lazier than that, and also do much worse. Like shutting the website for good and doxxing it's members.
2) It's funny but you don't get it. That's okay. It was a minor inconvenience where you couldn't download games for 48 hours or so.
3) You can get most contents elsewhere. Moriya makes it easier than anywhere else but in no way it has exclusivity on the internet.
4) I don't know about Myrient but that sounds like fuel to the fire, lol.
5) It wasn't careless. It was planned and well executed.

I think it's valid to get angry. I'm also a bit angry, as I don't find the joke funny. Just because it was a fake, it doesn't make it funny. I guess what we can learn from this is to not trust the leadership, especially near april, and connect with people we see as worthy.
Fuck you guys.
It is valid, yes. You can get pissed and you don't have to find it funny. We are different people with different tastes and opinions.
But I think this actually makes the admins more trustworthy than the opposite. It means they had the opportunity to leave but they didn't. It means they ellaborated a prank for us when they could just say "Nah, too much effort" and move on.
I can give you that you shouldn't expect them to be serious when it's too close to April 1st.
Take it easy man, I know you're a good lad.

with that said, to some people i talk to, this has given out the signal that moriya shrine isn't a reliable source anymore.
Do these people also frequent r/touhou per chance?
I cannot believe someone would be this mad over a prank that they'd think this forum isn't reliable anymore.

If people get mad over not being able to access free downloads on a free site for two days, then they need to go and touch grass. And if they decide not to use the site anymore because they feel it's 'not reliable or cool', then more power to them; less whining and nonsense to deal with on our end.
i still think their feelings are valid, just like yours are. i think it's unfortunate that people's perception of the site is, at least in my small friend circles, going into the negatives, probably because this site is how i got into the shmups at first, but it's not like other sources haven't been sprawled across the internet for god knows how long already. that said, i don't have super strong feelings about it even if my wording may have come across as otherwise, but would still be unfortunate if this site was lost for good imo.

i don't think that's super relevant, being upset at a thing not working is a normal thing (though, sure, the amount of being upset should be proportionate to how strong of a feeling you have about said thing in the first place). i personally see this place as an archival site, and any archive of sorts going down the drain would be unfortunate, but these days it's easier for people to work in a hydra-like fashion where it's less hard for something obscure to become lost to time.

at least my own feelings are "it's kinda lame but it is what it is and i'm glad it's still up", if that makes sense?

with that said, to some people i talk to, this has given out the signal that moriya shrine isn't a reliable source anymore. damned shame considering this site is how i got into touhou games in the first place god knows how long ago, around when ddc came out
That's just bullshit, lol.
Claiming the website isn't reliable because of a prank is just disingenuous. It's up for nearly all year around without issues and when it closes for 2 days in the 365-day schedule you claim it to be "unreliable"? Sorry, but this is dumb. Site is back up to prove you wrong.
The other point you made is also weak tbh. "If it makes it a tiny bit inconvenient for people then it's not the way to go", it's too fragile and crumbles on itself. Reality is not like that. Take the L and move on.

Okay, I think imma be a bit aggrorant here and say that the website has already been running on a loss, with torm paying out of his ass for the website hosting, so I personally think that nobody in the staff team would mind if the site actually went down one day lol. Piracy is a biggggg ocean, cut one head down, two heads grow, thats what they say in this community. Even Myrient got backed up lol, I see no reasons that this website wouldn't be backed up one day too (eventhough we already have like 2 backups lol). Everyone here practically work for free, theres no benefit to being a staff on this page, we are just doing this out of our pure heart. And if you think this website is unreliable and shit, feel free to use another website. And if you called this website unreliable in the first place, then why even give a shit about this website? Why even participate in the drama at all? Sometimes I just don't understand where people are coming from lol.
About the cracks in the games, the number in official downloads alone should prove that it's safe. And the steam one are usually safe, sometimes we have to mingle with some lesser safe cracks that's detected by anti virus (don't worry, those files are from my personal toolbox, so if it were malicious then I would be the first one to get infected and I dont know how to code shit myself lol), but rest assured we crack our game in-house or source from reliable source (most of the time we just get the clean steam files and crack the game ourselves). After all I have been in this pirating scene for 3 years, we know what to do lol. It's still good that people give the benefit of doubts on the games on our website (and rightfully you should always do that anywhere) but outright just spreading misinformation is just loser/hater behavior.
Honestly? Care about thing less, love everyone more. It was a really fun april's fool despite how brutal the prank was and it was really fun to watch the reactions surrounding it. And rest assured that we'll try to get our hand on games and try to preserve/upload them.
Final note: If you are a developer, feel free to contact me or any other devs on here via DM/Discord/Discord DM and we will publish your game on the website without your need to do it manually. And if you could spare some cent for the website via ko-fi, please do, we could use some :D

My question is "What's the joke here?", and the answer will be always "Who cares? It's April" and laughs about it without caring the fact that it ruin other people's mood. I'll be real for ya, I think you have taken too far with this one.

There's a reason I've been avoiding everything about April because everyone would just took too much effort for a joke that will make people feel annihilate with all of this, and this is one of them. Worse yet, it wasn't even on April 1st when the news is spread, so you just be scaring people for days at something that is meaningful to them.

What I'm saying is that you should be aware about your reputation. One day, you won't be forgiven and no one likes using the site anymore. It's a warning for you.
We were actually planning on keeping it down a bit longer and getting more games and music ready to make up for it.

well how about this, next year, we all abandon the site and server ^-^ so they will taste a bit of how it feels

Honestly I don't understand what the discussion is about anymore, this thread slightly reeks of reddit

i didn't know that you cracked some of the games yourselves as well. that's impressive ngl! thanks again for your services to the community!

It would be literally a win-win for me, lmao. More games and more fun.
But since the pressure built up too quickly I won't complain.
I was ready for an entire week though.
