Moriyashrine.org dramas? Wut?

kanedafanatic

Made more sense to put Tetsuo instead of Kaneda.
I'm not really someone who was present when whatever happened had gone down but, it got me curious as to what in specific this rando implied in the title of his post. Can someone explain me the dramas that happened over on the forums? Hopefully in the most detail possible, because it intrigues me.
I'm wondering about it too. Just seems this site seems to attract the periodic trolls and weirdos for some reason.

I'm no expert, but if i remember correctly when the games started being put on steam i heard of some legal team issues over here. of course i could be wrong, i wasn't over here at the time, but that could be it!
(there was also an April fools joke of that same story that I could be misremembering)

I remember the April Fools joke, that's for sure. Really got everyone good.
Because of the state of the legality of Moriya hosting the Touhou games, it genuinely seemed to be something which was possible (and in some ways, is still possible, unfortunately).
Still, the way the joke went (the site supposedly being bought out by Team Shanghai Alice) did seem a bit suspicious, but it seemed credible enough either way at the time, especially because the site didn't come back on for days.

i missed everything and i feel bad abt it cuz i was really clueless up until now:RemiSob:

What's dmca?
Something which means to be taken down for a copyright violation (though it is very often misused). It's a US law, but most countries have similar laws and is just used as a shorthand for anything taken down by copyright law.

To some extent or another, that fiasco actually led me to be more active on here. Before then, I only ever really came on here to download the games.

Unsure myself. From what I read during the time the thread was still up, that guy sounds like some sort of anti-piracy guy whose goal was take down the website.

I'm probably wrong.

Considering how the world runs: everyone must have pirated something once. Especially where I live, piracy is a given with the rising food and living prices. Someone going "piracy is wrong" is naive to the world around them.

as someone from a country where video games are expensive asf, pirating is bad but only because it's high risk with low reward, it wouldn't be bad if malwares didn't exist

Piracy is bad, period. People steal from other people. Some tolerate it, some don't. It just so happens we've got the good side of the medal with ZUN. Thing is, a lot of those said people either don't have the means to buy their own stuff yet (like I do), don't see the price being worth it, or are locked from getting the said software (country restriction or whatever else.)

Plus, a majority bats a blind eye because priorities are different in the West. Nobody cares because it's the reality of things. There's much worse than stealing a movie or a game from overseas. Go to Japan and piracy is seen much worse socially compared to here. There are the minority that wants to feel morally superior by telling people "piracy is a crime", but those makes a fool out of themselves when you hear them.

I wouldn't say Piracy is bad, it's only bad if someone from a country with cheap games pirates games from steam
But when it comes to for example poles, pirating even Touhou games is fine because the games are expensive asf

It is still piracy at the end of the day, and by definition, piracy involves unauthorized copying and distribution of copyrighted content. However, like I said: nobody cares, and ZUN himself disclosed that pirating his games overseas is fine (though that stance might've changed given his game are on Steam.)

While yes, no one should distribute copyrighted content without authorization legally speaking: no one gives a fuck. No one will restrict you to share this website and download off what's on it. It doesn't make you a bad person to pirate something because you think it isn't worth the asking price, like where you live.

I wouldn't say piracy is bad at all. Sharing is not theft. Copyright holders try to demonize it, and as result there are people trying to morally justify their piracy with "it's too expensive", "it's unavailable", etc., but at the end of the day sometimes you just want free stuff.

Most people did think it was an april fools joke, but many were worried when the site being "down" lasted like 2 to 3 more days. Many were starting to doubt that it was a joke lol.

That's exactly how it was. I was certainly among those who was worried it wasn't a mere "joke".
