Eirin's 2nd Favorite Student
Hello! I'd like to let you know I've never written a fanfiction before, or anything with dialogue for that matter. I wanted to write some kind of little story where a random human is spirited away to Gensokyo, and just wrote what came to mind first! If characters don't act how you'd expect them to, uh, sorry! I'm not real good at this type of thing yet.
The story is going to follow Chiharu Isono, a human forgotten by the world and herself, as she travels around Gensokyo in hopes of finding purpose! This episode, she wakes up in the Bamboo Forest of the Lost and "meets" Mystia Lorelei!
Please feel free to give me criticism!
Running.
It's all Chiharu could remember from the last few minutes of her life.
One moment she was walking down her favorite mountain trail in the middle of a cloudy day, and the next she awoke a night in a vast forest of bamboo to the beautiful sound of a songbird from somewhere in the branches.
Well it was beautiful at first.
It didn't take long for Chiharu to begin feeling strange. It was as if the already unfathomably tall bamboo plants were growing far taller into the night sky; either that or the night sky seemed to be descending upon her. Whichever it was however didn't quite matter to her at the time, as at that point all she could do was run. As fast as she could she threw herself into a sprint, dodging bamboo as it seemed to almost walk into her path. She was sure she heard the song getting closer.
Swoosh~
She felt air rush by her quickly, and felt a searing pain in her shoulder. Putting her hand to the wound, she pulled it back horrified to see it stained a deep red.
Crash~!
Suddenly, she was on the ground; she could hardly see what was standing over her.
"Please..." Chiharu whispered. "Please don't hurt me..."
"Sorry... But I have to eat somehow!" The voice said softly, but with a laugh that Chiharu felt mocked her. She grabbed her backpack and held it above her head just as a claw swept down; the bag breaks open, and all of Chiharu's belongings disperse onto the ground. Quickly, she grabs around for the first thing, and hold it up in self defense...
Silence...
"What is that?" The assailant spoke with a genuine curiosity... Not entirely sure what she was holding, Chiharu opened her eyes, clearly seeing the figure above her. It was a woman with wings and sharp talons, wearing a rather ornate dress... Looking at what she was holding revealed-
"Um... A megaphone?" She almost trips over her words. Just a second ago she was being attacked but... "It... Um... Makes your voice louder, you know?"
The bird woman's eyes grew what Chiharu could only imagine was fifty times larger, as she snatched the microphone from Chiharu's shaking hands.
"How does it work!?" She yelled at the top of her lungs. Realizing something, Chiharu moved slightly out from under the woman.
"I'll... I'll tell you if you don't eat me!"
The woman seemed to look at Chiharu in surprise, then an excited wide smile crossed her face.
"Yeah! Yeah whatever you say, just tell me!"
Chiharu took the megaphone from her claws and dug around in the mess on the ground until she found what she was looking for. She always enjoyed carrying this old thing with her; she found it in a garbage dump years ago and rigged it to a solar panel so it could work. Turning it on, she handed it back.
"Chin... Chin..." The same song as before, but blasted through the speaker of the electric megaphone it was extremely loud. Suddenly Chiharu is embraced by...
"Mystia! I'm Mystia Lorelei! Oh, thank you so much! Imagine how many people will be able to hear my song now; this is even louder than the band's speaker system!"
After what felt like an eternity to Chiharu, Mystia put her down. They stood there in silence for a second until Chiharu completely broke down sobbing. Shocked, Mystia looked around frantically before remembering there was no one else around to help with the situation.
"Hey... It's okay, I won't eat you okay? Promise!" Mystia puts her hand on the girl's shoulder, where she feels the blood seeping out of it.
"Oh, I'm so sorry I forgot I hit you! Um... Here!" She rips a part of her dress and uses it to bandage the wound of the still sobbing Chiharu, now laying on the ground mumbling to herself. Mystia, completely bewildered on what to do, sits on the ground next to her a begins to sing softly. The poor human quickly passes out, whether due to exhaustion, blood loss, or her song, Mystia is unsure, but she picks up Chiharu anyway and flies away with her.
