Like his wife, he was disgusted that his kind thought so little of humans and gave them as much protection as possible.
This mindset was made paramount when he saw the horrors of Gensokyo.
Armed with only a halberd, he extended his authority over the local vampires, imposing a strict, but just rule over what would be his kingdom.
Providing sanctuary for the humans of the kingdom was not easy.
Ulrich often dueled with potential rivals and intruders who would threaten all that he built.
Perhaps his greatest battle was against a shrine maiden who mistook him for an oni from hell.
Despite these tribulations, the kingdom was established and vampires lived alongside humans in peace.
That peace was broken when Ulrich was almost killed by a powerful being.

After spreading false rumors of his disappearance, Ulrich remained in his castle with his eyes open and his ear to the ground.

In the hope of finding allies, Ulrich secretly sent letters to Marisa and Patchouli with the proposal of an alliance.
Marisa smelled an incident and set off for an impromptu adventure, while Patchouli was suspicious and sent Sakuya in her stead.
The pair arrived at the Castle of Unending Starlight and battled through it's halls until they defeated Angelina in a deadly danmaku battle.
The vampire queen was interrogated by the maid and witch about the letters and what their meaning was.
Angelina vouched for their authenticity, but maintained that she never sent them.
