  • It appears that this year's Shanghai THO will not be held; however, since the Shanghai Touhou community is fully capable of organizing an event of equivalent scale, the impact doesn't seem to be all that significant.
Just now, something controversial happened involving 二色幽紫蝶 (you might not know who they are, but all you need to know is that they’re the ones behind Touhou Mystia's Izakaya). That just goes to show there’s always plenty going on in the Touhou community.

Alright, the matter has been resolved. The organizer of 二色幽紫蝶 has released a statement.

It was simply that one admin of their official QQ group was removed from their position and then threw a fit. After all, he is a minor who felt his so-called "labor rights" had been violated.

Following negotiations, though, no major issues have arisen.

Oh thank god, I genuinely loved Mystia's Izakaya, id hate to see something bad happen to it
Seedance 2.0 has recently generated a huge response in China. I tried using it to create some short Touhou videos, and the results were great. Perhaps with the continued development of this technology, we will be able to see a full 25-minute Touhou animation
There are people reuploading deleted Touhou videos on Bilibili. Most of these clips were reposted from Niconico, and the vast majority were uploaded without permission from the original creators

Interestingly, some of these videos have already been taken down by their authors on Niconico, yet they still remain preserved on Bilibili
Well, I regret not learning piano and painting when I was younger, as it means I'm missing out on a lot of enjoyment now

Hopefully, you can dedicate as much time as possible, since I've been drawing religiously (more than 4 hours a day) since 2022 and still far from being a "professional", and I've been practicing piano since 2024 and still can't play 16th notes at normal speed
Well, what can I say? Just because you're the organizer of a Touhou offline event doesn't mean you're superior to other Touhou fans

Your recent string of comments are a teaser for a full breakdown post, eventually...right? I can only wait and see. Do the (head?) organizer fancy themselves like the "king" of the local Touhou fandom in a province/region? Judging from the Chinese fandom document you gave to me, do some Touhou fans (or the otaku fandom as a whole) in China have a "warring states" mindset? (hopefully this question isn't too politically sensitive)

Ah, I was just venting, but maybe I’ll write a full post about it someday. It’s a shame that so many THO this year have been mired in controversy.

To be completely honest, the phenomenon you mentioned does exist. The head organizer of a regional THO often ends up becoming the "emperor" of that local community. Under the guise of "serving the local fandom," they monopolize the organizer position for years, all just to satisfy their own selfish desires.

You could even say that now that so many regions have their own THO/THP, those that don’t feel pressured to host one too. But they often ignore the subjective and objective realities of their local communities. I know it’s not great to speculate about doujin events this way, but it does feel like a kind of arms race in some respects.
I will always oppose associating Touhou with politics; that is the most foolish thing to do, bar none.

have there been new political drama in the chinse fandom? Is it concerning regional politics like Jiangsu or national?

A uploader on Bilibili who discusses current events has recently become incredibly popular, but I won't go into details. His fans have associated him with Rin because of his profession, treating Rin like a mere accessory, which has led to many derivative works. However, this has severely disrupted the harmonious atmosphere of the Touhou community, attracting a large number of people who only want to discuss politics.

Excluding Reimu and Marisa, I think Cirno is currently the most popular character among Touhou newbies

I'd add Flandre as well, especially since Ronald McDonald Insanity was the big bang of Touhou here in the west. Even if folks don't know who she is or about the series she comes from, they can at least recognize her from the memes.

BTW anybody heard how Touhou reached the millionth post on Danbooru? It was a picture of Cirno, who also occuped the 999,999th spot. (apparently people were spamming Cirno photos during the 999k areas to get Cirno to that spot)
So unlike the Japanese or western community, who are mostly fine with Touhou's niche status, there's a bigger push in the Chinese community to get Touhou mainstream, right?
