Any Way To Request For A Touhou Fangame To Be Made (For Free)?

SateriCat17

Neko Youkai Meijin
Well, there probably isn't, but I'm just curious if there somehow is. I can't find any, or at least very many, Touhou games which have some of my favorite characters such as Letty, Medicine, Hina, and others, playable.
Of course, I would try to make such games myself, but I have zero experience in making games and am not a very tech-savvy person.
I would probably even try to pay someone to make these sorts of games if it came to it (as long as it wouldn't be hundreds of dollars), but as I've mentioned before, I don't have money nor even a bank account.
So, is there a way to be able to get a Touhou fangame made through a request of some sort, or am I truly out of luck?
I'm mainly just sort of bored and I keep getting annoyed not being able to find anything with some of my favorite Touhou characters playable and at the center of a game.

An RPG or some sort of first-person (not really talking about shooter, unless it's with danmaku), or even an open-world game would be the best genres in many ways to me.

Unfortunately for you, you have summoned me: A game dev whose chance to finish their projects is the same as Mima appearing in Touhou 21.

Though seriously, I can try if you want. But like, I doubt the game would be any good. And it would probably be quite a while before you'll be able to play it. If you have like a specific idea in mind of how you want the game to be, I guess I could try prototyping it.

Also, first person rpg sounds like Shin Megami Tensei or the first Persona.

I guess just a simple RPG with either of the three characters mentioned as the protagonist.
Though with Letty, it seems like I would be able to get the most out of it. Not too complex with the story either. Maybe something to do with her going on a quest to fight Lily, maybe?
I'd probably have to think about it more. I'm great at coming up with concepts for stuff, though it can often take a while for me to come up with further details if I lack good inspiration (I guess a problem just about everyone has at some point or another).
Anyway, thanks for the offer! Would be nice if you can make it!
And, no worries if it wouldn't be very good. As long as everything looks alright to me and the gameplay's good enough, it'd probably be fine with me.

BTW, what kind of combat and world nav do you want? Something like Pokemon? Chrono Trigger? Persona? I'm honestly not good at planning games or making concepts. All I have going of your suggestion is that Letty is trying to end an infinite spring because nobody else in Gensokyo wants to (since spring is a really nice season imo). And after going around beating a bunch of people, Letty finds out it's Lily white's doing. And the latter becomes a god or something and you kill god idk I think I've played too much jrpgs.

And maybe you can summon like Cirno, Medicine or other faeries since most media I see Letty in depicts her as some sort of mother figure or nee san type figure to Cirno and her friend group. But idk if Medicine will go along since an infinite spring seems to be in her benefit. Or Letty could go to help from Alice, who in exchange for something would make doll like replicas of other touhou characters which she can summon in battle SMT style. But that sounds like a stretch of a mechanic and an excuse to see smt demon like designs for touhou characters.

As you can tell, I rlly don't know what I'm doing lol

Getting games for free wasn't enough, Moriyans wish for unpaid employment contracts now
As long as I'm not getting whipped I shall abide.

I've been summoned.
Contrary to the progress bar on the bottom, I have been making progress with Medelin (Free, opensource, 2D, open-world, sandbox, RPG & Medicine and Hina planed as story characters, NOT first-person though). It's just that I'm working with @kanedafanatic on a big project, so my time is split, but as said big project involves learning how to make music as just a step, at least there is hope a personalized soundtrack will be made for this...

And Medelin is also a big project in itself, especially since it's also my first game ever. I'm learning everything form scratch - pixel art, music, programming, trying to world build, 'what makes a good sandbox game?', 'how do people play sandbox games, what do they expect?'... the list goes on and on. As for it's state, it's still in 'paper' form but latest big progress was a few days ago - the center of the world building, and Kaneda is giving me lots of good ideas to work with.

Of course, I would try to make such games myself, but I have zero experience in making games and am not a very tech-savvy person.

Any chances you would be willing to join the dev team?
I think I once saw one of your posts mentioning you wanted to be a writer? Immersive writing is kind of my weakness... think you would be willing to help me with that? Perhaps as a way to develop your skills? *Eyebrow wiggle* Something about cats... in Elin there is a cat god, so their worship plays a part, who says the trend can't continue in this game? (If you want to)

Finally! I've been passively looking for an experienced game dev here, though I'm not at the stage where I would need coding advice, would you willing to offer tips when the time comes? Or would you perhaps be interested in being part of the dev team? (Though I don't want to force the game on everyone I meet. And your help offer was for SateriCat17, not this random game) Also what series is your pfp from? A cozy post-apocalyptic farming sim came out in a similar style and it made me want to re-watch the anime / reread the manga.

If you any of you two show interest, I'll DM you the details so you can decide if the game is your cup of tea. And as for the rest of you ordinary folk, you need something to look forward to, so no spoilers for you... unless it's for hype, but that is still ways off.

I'd still have to think about it some more. I could go the story route of Letty fighting Lily, or it could be something else. I'm not too sure yet. The idea of Cirno and other fairies joining sounds pretty intriguing for it. But, you are right that Medicine (and probably Hina as well) most likely wouldn't join in. As for the combat and wold nav, Pokemon-style is a no-go (at least for combat, but maybe not for nav), but I'd have to look into how Chrono Trigger and Persona do things as I don't know all that much about either of those games.
And of course, for designs, I prefer for them to remain as much as like ZUN's original designs as possible.

Hmm. Could be interesting. Though I'd have to say that I'm typically better at world building and the general concept for a story (I've been writing various throwaway stories recently to try to teach myself how to write better with dialogue and exposition, but I haven't gotten all that far save for a couple of them), but still, I can come with ideas besides that on occasion.
I've written within a pre-established framework of an already-existing story or world building of a work, but I've never written for someone else before, so maybe it could be good practice, but I can't exactly guarantee you it being the best. It would of course, especially depend on my "motivation" for the work and it's concepts (as those are almost always THE deciding factor if I can develop ideas). Still, the idea behind the game itself sounds interesting, so it might be something.
I'd have to know more though about some of the world-building, story, and some of the characters/enemies before really deciding, of course.

That's why I was surprised to get others to offer me something in the first place! XD
Just decided to take a shot in the dark and see if I came up with anything.

Game advice? Tips? Well, I think I'm the last person you want to be asking about those. I have made games, but most of them are coded / made like hot garbage. My coding practices are probably terrible.

But with that said, I wouldn't be opposed to join the dev team. Though I do have to warn you that I probably won't be super active since I have a lot of things going on. Making games is mostly just a side hobby after all.

And the pfp is from Shuumatsu Shoujo Ryokou by Tsukimizu. Same guy who made the manga Flan wants to die and Shimeji simulation. But other than those, I STRONGLY SUGGEST you do not look at his previous works.

Chrono trigger combat is ATB, so it's kind of like the later FF turn based games. There's a gauge that fills up overtime. Only when its filled up can you make a move. Same principle with the enemy. So it means like the enemies can hit you while you're still selecting moves or you can get multiple hits in if you manage to do stuff to make the gauge fill fast enough.

Persona is more like a buffing debuffing game while exploting weaknesses. When you hit a weakness you get an extra move. That's the bare bones of it. There's other things like baton passes and all out attacks that expand on that base move.

Just on a side note, I only ever made 2D games, so uh... sorry if you were expecting any 3D. Though I could try to program something like SMT 1 style movement (first person dungeon crawler), or a 2.5D perspective (Navigation remains mostly 2D with 2D sprites, but the world is rendered in 3D. Search up Octopath of Persona 2 oveworld to get an idea)

You could have pirated RPG Maker ngl. There's a ton of free assets made for it and if memory doesn't fail me it's pretty easy to use it, don't quote me on that though, I haven't used RPG Maker since I was 12.

Very interested to see where this thread will end up.

A 2.5D game would probably be pretty interesting. I've played some of those types of games before, and I tend to like them better than straight 2D games, mainly because 2.5D tends to have more detail.
Anyway, I don't think Chrono Trigger's combat would work well for this (mainly because I'm not sure I'd be very good at that sort of gameplay), but Persona's might be a good idea. The only thing is that I tend to not use extra stuff aside from the "base" combat in a game.

Is there anywhere to get it that'd be assuredly safe? I want to make sure the computer doesn't get viruses, as I made that mistake before (not with pirating games though, but from downloading stuff off of MCPEDL).
Anyway, I'm also interested in seeing how this will go as well. I thought someone (probably Idkism or LightningGreed included) would chime in and say I'm out of luck and that'd just be the end of it.

Unaware of any trustworthy links for pirating it, I'm pretty outside the RPG Maker sphere.
I've heard RPG Paper Maker is also beginner friendly, though I never used that one personally, and it looks like it's a free download (unless you plan to sell the game.)

Well, as I mentioned, I don't have a bank account, so it's not like I could even sell anything. lol
But, I guess I could maybe try looking into the program at some point. It might also help me with making stories aside from just writing them down.
