People are so quick to accuse of some weird stuff like 'gooner' or even worse, that I just don't mention that am a fan of Touhou irl.

I don't think being accused of being a gooner just because you like touhou is normal, that person is probably just projecting because they spend lots of time on gooner websites and saw touhou there so think it's a gooner thing. Considering you also say that people get "bad vibes" from you your whole life though, maybe something about your look is making you look like the stereotypical "creepy guy" from tv shows and superficial people are treating you differently because of this, maybe you could try changing it to different glasses or getting a better hairstyle etc., it's just an idea so don't take it too seriously though.

To answer the question in the title of the thread, I don't hide the fact that I'm a touhou fan at all, but in real life I'm also kind of a "quiet guy" who doesn't volunteer any information that wasn't asked for, and strategically chooses the answers to questions to try and make the conversation as short as possible, so I would be unlikely to ever mention touhou unless the person asking what I like is already kind of my friend.

I agree for the most part!! But I do think there is a problem of creeps in the Fandom...but that's also an issue of a lot of Fandom.

That's the weird part, I'm not the one to bring up touhou. They do and the it's like a "scoff, of course you're a fan [insult]"

Protect it as long as possible before it becomes mainstream. Still enjoy the heck out of the Touhou Muse Dash levels though.

I suppose it's all relative and your perception is based on how obscure/popular the other series you like are, but I feel like touhou is already quite mainstream, basically every single person on the "non-normie" side of the internet is at least aware of existence, there are touhou songs with tens of millions of plays, fumo memes are extremely popular, it kind of looms over everything else in the background, and things come and go that are more "popular" than it at the time, but it's been there for so long as the doujin community/fandom/whatever that it feels like an immortal part of the online mythos at this point.

i mean if im talking to a stranger or something im not gonna bring up that i like touhou unless they like it too. if they ask what i like chances are i wont even say im into any sort of anime kind of stuff. but i have gotten comfortable enough to where my friends know i like touhou.
