I actually had the chance to sample some miso oden with konjac dumpling the last time I was in Japan; the tea house said it was a 'challenging dish' because so many people didn't like it, and they straight up asked if I was fine with getting it when I ordered. I thought it was pretty good, but I also eat a lot of other 'acquired' foods such as vegemite, haggis, natto, blodplättar, etc.
My favorite food is easily a plate of tonkatsu curry; It's relatively simple, filling, and tastes fantastic with the curry sauce and fried pork cutlet. During my first trip to Japan last year (eight days long, mind you), I legitimately had it every single day because Coco Ichibanyas were so common and I can't make it very often at my place back in the states.
Least favorite dish would likely be green beans; I've tried it so many times and even had it done up fresh, but there's something about the rubbery texture and strange flavor that makes me gag. God forbid it's out of a can with that strange, viscous liquid it comes packed in. If I was trapped in the bottom of a well for a week and my only source of food was green beans, I honestly think I'd go full Rumia and start eating my own arm before those.
