The ‘Modern Technology’ Version of Gensokyo

No Account Name Idea

is this the thing that replaces (Onshi)?
What head-canons would you have for a Gensokyo where the magic is replaced with modern technology? For example, Nitori working for a construction firm or Alice selling toys.

This was partially inspired by that comic where Flandre was a gamer who just had four personalities instead of being able to use Taboo “Four of a Kind”.

This part is unrelated, but why is Fujiwara no Mokou’s name spelled like that when I have seen only rarely Gensokyo spelled as ‘Gensoukyou’?

Ironically enough, I don't think the themes would differ much from the current plot. Magic is used to explain the unexplainable. Technology is used to explain the unexplainable. It would probably become some mecha franchise instead of magical girls, but at the end of the day, humanity and it's connection to mysterious reality would stay the same. Technobabble would replace the magical motifs, and that's that. Incidents would still happen, gods could still exist and be more profane.

Unrelated part: People are lazy, idk why people shorten Gensoukyou. Frankly they shouldn't.

That actually already exists with Seihou Project. It was a series of only two games that ZUN helped to make between the PC98 and Windows era, and it notably had more of a technology focus than Touhou's magic. The main character is a robot maid named VIVIT, and most the enemies you fight are drones, mechanoids, etc. I imagine that a mechanized version of Touhou (plus or minus android Sakuya) wouldn't be too far off from what Seihou was.

Gensokyo is likely spelled the way it is due to the way that Tokyo is spelled, seeing as how the realm is basically magical Japan.

okuu would be the kind of guy to brag that she works at a nuclear power plant to sound like she has a powerful job but never mention shes a janitor cuz aint no way she actually gonna get to be part of the crew

I could see a technological touhou story be used to tackle complex themes such as the ethics of technology. What role does Reimu play in a technologically advanced world? How has the natural landscape been impacted by urbanization? How does the yokai survive in that environment? I do not have an answer to these scenarios. All I can say is that most of the natural beauty is destroyed by urbanization.

Also, I have no clue why Mokou is spelled like that

wouldn't youkai themselves classify as a magical element that would be replaced by something else
