The Hobbyist's Thread

Wanted to share my book collection real quick.
I collect classical works like Shakspeare, Agatha Christie and Alfred Tennyson, as well as fantasy and sci-fi books.
Many of my books are antiques, some of which were printed in the 1800's.
I also have a small collection of manga as well.
(Tamamo--chan's a Fox is my favorite series so far.)
My most unusual--and one of my favorite finds--is a copy of Romeo and Juliet in Japanese.
Unfortunately, I have to place some on the floor because I don't have enough space.

Agatha Christie was very good writer, I love Hercule Poirot.
What kind of sci-fi do you read.

I don't have many classical sci-fi books, but anything by H G. Wells is a good read.
War of the Worlds is probably the best out of everything he's written.

I have a number of Star Wars books and comics, most of which are either old or from the Legends continuity.
It's hard to find anything from modern Disney Star Wars that's actually decent, but there's at least a couple I could recommend.

I also have a number of old sci-fi comics and a couple issues old manga that was printed during the 80's.
My favorite sci-fi comics is actually a four issue run of Rocket Racoon (his original iteration, long before his debut in Guardians of the Galaxy).

My favorite sci-fi manga is an issue of a series called Dirty Pair (yes, the title is an inappropriate joke. No, it's not actually sexual in any way), which was adapted from an actual book series of the same name.
The series follows a pair of women in the employ of an anti-terror organization engaging in deadly missions across the galaxy.
While the protagonists are capable, they have a reputation of messing up so badly that destruction and chaos are left in their wake.
This reputation has left them being nicknamed the Dirty Pair, which they hate with a burning passion.

I got a Warhammer 40k book a few years ago.
I've been trying to find more, but there's so many it's hard to know what was written before the retcons or what is or isn't tainted by political dog water.
On the bright side, I have an old rule book and supplements for the actual Warhammer 40k tabletop game.
I'm always on the hunt for old TTRPG rule books, both fantasy and sci-fi.
The only downside is that they're sometimes priced higher than any sane person would actually pay.

My sword collection!

My first ever Touhou merch just arrived yesterday! There's a store in Japan called AkibaHobby that YuyuFumo visited during a trip to Japan.
I was curious to see if there was an online storefront, and there was.
I bought both volumes of a doujin that I became aware of thanks to a YouTube channel that performed comic dubs of the translated version.
I also bought a keychain because why not?

The doujin is called Ladies of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. It's a genuinely delightful slice of life comedy.
If you're ever curious about the comic dub,
The channel is named Jynx Izayoi.
And a tremendous thanks to YuyuFumo for sharing AkibaHobby with the thread.

True to my inner Suika, homebrewing is something I've gotten into over the past couple months. My first batch of alcohol was a fermented lemonade, a simple but fun recipe that I accidentally made in mason jars while attempting to produce sparkling lemonade around four years ago. It tastes much better now with proper (and sanitized) brewing equipment.

My current project is a batch of basic mead, nothing too fancy until I nail the process down. It's currently got around another two weeks until it finishes fermenting along with another couple of months of aging before optimal consumption. Though it's not necessary, I do like to create Touhou-themed bottle labels for whatever drink I'm brewing. I'll likely try my hand at sake once I finish the mead, just depends on whether I'm able to procure the correct rice to do so. :)

As an alcohol enthusiast myself, I hope to be able to something similar once I have enough supplies to do so.
I won't lie though, that mead looks like a thick melted caramel chocolate that's drizzled on ice cream.
The labels are cleverly designed. They look like they might be something that an actual company would use.
I'm looking forward to seeing what other brews you might be cooking up once the mead is done.
Homebrew sake sounds like a dream come true.

I also want to get into homebrewing, do you have any resources/pro tips I should be aware of?

I'm still a beginner myself so there's really no good tips or resources I can give outside of making sure you properly sanitize your equipment. I imagine it's not very pleasant to find a month of labor and waiting having gone to waste due to foreign bacteria invading your brew. I personally use StarSan; it seems a bit costly at first until you realize you dilute the bottle down into liters upon liters of water to make the sanitizer.

My latest project.
I found an AT-AT at a discount store and made a quick ice cave diorama with a snowy terrain.

Bottling day for my latest batch of wildflower honey mead, quite happy with how it turned out for a first attempt. Excited to see how it ages, will likely have to create a separate thread for all my homebrewing-related shenanigans to provide updates.

My latest dioramas.
