The General State of Touhou "Down Bad Syndrome"

Okay, this question has been floating around in my mind ever since I saw something on Twitter that showed a thumbnail of Meiling sleeping and a hand reaching towards her chest. You know what people think when that happens. This clip garnered over 134k views (probably even more), whereas other Touhou clips get around 1–5k in general and sometimes get over 10k depending on the content.

So the question I'm asking is if the Touhou fanbase is getting way too horny based on everything generated over the past few years.

Some various examples of what I have seen over the years of "down syndrome" are:

Mommy? : Memes depicting the [insert Touhou character here] as a baby seeking affection.These are done to death all the time, but due to their cookie cutter meme status, they still get a lot of views.

Booba: Ah yes, everyone seems to just like the anatomically impossible and weirdly shaped mounds, which always seem to get more attention the more exposed they are. This needs no more explanation.

Public Horny: Well, this relates to the proposal at the start. The general "outright bad" syndrome seems to have increased over the years with the growth of the fandom; this can be seen everywhere from Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, Discord, and wherever Touhou is widely discussed or made.

These are only the tip of the iceberg; there are many more underneath, which are compiled into a possibly SFW or NSFW list depending on how you see them on the Horny rating scale.

So, actually, Touhou Project fanbase isn't that "down bad", it just makes so much stuff in general, that its mountain of porn inevitably became bigger.

I would say Yuri would probably be the most used and appreciated considering the fact that Touhou is an mostly all female cast and that stuff can be seen floating around everywhere you see Touhou at. Just the other day I saw one floating around TWT with Meiling and Sakuya, an often common Yuri fetish pair.

Though IDK if that is the most appreciated considering the fact that second most I've seen would be obese/feet fetish that rarely pops up into my TWT feed.

Although, I cannot deny I have consumed this kinda content (referring to NSFW) in the past and have seen a lotta stuff, ranging from mildly interesting to "lemme see if howtobasic has a tutorial on brainwashing yourself"

I recently found a spreadsheet documenting the amount of R18 present on Pixiv and Gelbooru.

Touhou seems to be within the upper echelon in terms of percentage on Pixiv, but on Gelbooru Touhou honestly seem that bad .
If we look at absolute numbers, well Touhou absolutely dominates, but that's just because Touhou's had so long to gather R18 stuff.
Like Genshin Impact produces like 4 times as much R18 as Touhou right now.

It's been a while since I last made a contribution to the forum, so let's see what I can add. In regards to what you have mentioned, my one and a half years of using Danbooru as my main hub for finding Touhou images on a daily basis also brought at least some of the tags you mentioned. Therefore, let's get into a (not so holy) basic list of stuff of things that would make me say "same, buddy":

- lolicon/shotacon
- tentacles 
- futanari (ah, the classic...)
- mind control (again, again situation as in my comment about rape)
- not sure ho much I saw about milk, but milking sure is a thing... (ffs)
- gangbang/orgy
- large... "assets"
- gigantism (yes, it is a word) - let me explain a bit, at least from what I witnessed: there are people who apparently have something for giant partners, even if Danbooru has mostly given us giant women; combine that with other tags, and you will end up with stuff like "building sex" (as the name implies, it's gigantism + use of buildings/any other large objects you may see in an  urban environment as a... pleasure toy, be it by rubbing or shoving into... the womanly parts)... ffs, did I really have to use a wiki to look for detail into such a useless thing? most likely not, but here we are
- prostitution 
- bondage/BDSM (surprisingly, there's a big amount of that about Touhou characters, especially Reimu)
- any kind of -jobs (curtesy to Fusu in large part)

Surprisingly, I have not really seen cases of gore/guro, scat, drugs (although sometimes it is not clear if the character was drugged or mind controlled, unless the author explicitly says so) or NTR with my Touhou findings. Maybe I am still safe... for the time being

How recent is the spreadsheet? The results are very interesting, with some that I really did not get to see until now. Until I saw this, my reference came from another sheet I got last year as a result of writing a thread on r/touhou:

So, the whole point of this essay is moot. Touhou is NOT "so popular in terms of mature content". People want to lewd idols, battleships and genderbent historical figures more than the youkai.

If the data I mentioned above is correct, Touhou might have more R18 simply due to the sheer amount of works. However, when it comes o percentage out of all the works under that tag, we are apparently very low compared to most other stuff. Also by the way, what is the latest hot stuff nowadays getting tons of art? Besides Blue Archive (for which I have seen the note regarding characters age), Honkai also seems to be getting a lot of art, R18 included (or at least Kafka does, a character from that game).
