One I almost never hear talked about is Flight of the Bamboo Cutter ~ Lunatic Princess from Touhou 8, Imperishable Night. Though a lot of Zun's works have powerful openers, I really like how this one comes in hard, but slow. Then through the first few measures, it just keeps getting more elaborate and faster!
Then by the time it reaches tempo, it almost sounds like an eastern Flight of the Bumblebee for a section. (I don't know for sure, but I think that might have influence Zun's naming of the song) then of course the Zunpets come in to take over the melody, a requisit for any legendary Touhou piece.
Then around the minute twenty mark, the melody that had been building cuts out for a moment and a whole new melody crashes in and begins building, but with the same frantic piano in the background.
All around, this piece has remained one of my favorite, truly Touhou, works, and I recommend anyone to check it out for the first time, or to revisit it and really appreciate the complexity of its design!
