If anyone has any video essays (or just any video) you like or meaningful or cool or beautiful... this is it! Come and talk about it!...write about it. lol

I made this topic to talk about this video I'm about to show you. In fact, I just finished watching it. And I might also share other video essays that are meaningful to me. Maybe others will join me. Maybe it'll just be me here, who knows.

Thinking about the video made me remember earlier today I went to college with my friend and we ate and talked together, after the day was over and I walked back home, I actually smile, some other times too!

And it made me think some parts of me and my life and probably anyone in the world too, can relate to the feelings in the video and the movie. I haven't watched it in along time, I remember watching it with my sister tho, when I was younger, but I didn't pay much attention to the values that the movie offers. But now,... I think what is said in the video (also the message of the movie) is true.

I had some good days, some bad days, some terrible days, maybe you too. And at some point, I felt tired and miserable. I lost friends, one friend who I thought was close to me but wasn't. The environment, the people, it's just too much. But there are times where I smiled, I felt genuinely happy. Now I have new friends, friends who might look at me for who I am, acknowledge me, not treating me like some bystander... Maybe they'll stabbed me in the back one day but who knows. (the definition of a friend or a best friend or a true friend is always so uncertain...)

What I gathered for myself was that I'll always look back at the happy times, and from there I'll hopefully look forward to a life that is worth living, and at the present, I'll always keep trying.

I gotta make time to watch this movie again, I'll probably cry.

Sorry I didn't get to this initially, I needed time to watch the video. It's well presented and organized, and uniquely personal, which makes it especially effective in communicating the theme of the film its reviewing. It's difficult for me to engage with it too well, though, as I'm lacking sympathetic perspective. Remember that the purpose of a story is to make its message relatable; a story portrays the understanding of the storyteller, who themself is capable of being right or wrong. I can appreciate the masterful way in which this particular story is told (and believe me I do), while also judging its message independent of its delivery. I do not believe the value of one's life is in either themselves or in their worth to others; rather, I understand each and every person to be a special creation of God, loved by Him, and therefore transcendentally valuable.

Now, to the thread subject:

I love video essays, as they often serve to explain the appeal something has to others when I either can't or have no interest in experiencing it myself (Internet Historian, Pyrocynical and Bricky are some good examples). Other times they can help deepen my appreciation for something I already enjoyed. Story theory and music theory are major hobbies of mine, and a major area where the two overlap is musicals. Sideways is one of the best in this field when it comes to analysis and commentary, both for his presentation and his original theory work (please check him out: https://www.youtube.com/@Sideways440).

But in the interests of linking only one video to this post for sake of emphasis, I'm going to prioritize Joseph Anderson's The Villain of Edith Finch. If you haven't heard of Joseph Anderson, he's known for his professional-level analysis of story and game design. This particular video wasn't the first I saw from him, but undoubtedly had the biggest impact on how I viewed games as a storytelling medium.

Definitely two VERY long videos, but cover very cool topics. I like the second vid more tho. In the video he basically talks about many different things....such as a brief history about Korea (why it is how it is today and the involvement of America), politics (corruptions, and people being fed up), society (it's history of culture, and hierarchy), genders,....

Which leads to how those things lead to some problems of modern day Korea today, and gacha games is somehow related (which is interesting). From small things to the bigger picture, the vid is good (I like how he covers those topics).

 
It's time...  "Everything Is Television" ...

One of my favorite video on that channel as well as on the internet as a whole. Back in high school, and even till today, I related very much with this particular video (although I related to it harder back in high school). I felt like it had read my mind, my feelings, and spoke it out loud. This video might have helped me get through some... tough times back in high school, I have a LOT to talk about in those days, but... maybe when I have time (have I said this for like 2 or 3 times?).

He doesn't make videos that often, but when he does, it's always of good quality, lengthy, and probably detailed too. I got emotional when he also got emotional at the end (I think he was emotional) just trying to get the words out.

I believe in the video's final message.

I hope the vid helps yall in a good way.

BIG ASS WARNING: 

Not really serious or anything but I still think it's nice to do anyways. The video might be negative, hopeless throughout, but at the end it has a positive message. So please don't think too hard about some of these topics or watch the vid especially if you're not in a good mental state. (I don't think it's that bad but like watever).

GensouChronicle is a haven for those seeking quality within the sewer that is the Western Touhou YouTube scene.
His editing is clean yet stimulating, his videos are well-researched and well-written, and he presents some interesting investigations into the nature of Touhou's world.

Here are some of my favorite videos of his, with a brief description of their content and strengths:
 



Lastly, there is my overall favorite of his videos.
He takes the world of Gensokyo seriously, which is highly refreshing. It isn't merely a source of memes for him, he sees it as a well-built fantasy whose merits run parallel to figures like Tolkien (although I cannot be the judge of how apt these are, I haven't read him). 
It's a good investigation into the nature of fantasy in general, it explained a lot of my formerly inexplicable appreciation for Gensokyo as someone who is generally not sensitive to the appeal of fantasy - Touhou taught me the appeal of fantasy and that's why I've been so enamored by it.


When I try to write for an audience my writing gets so "stiff", I FEEL stiff while writing.
I swear my writing isn't always so impersonal and rigid.

First of all, thank you, truly, for bringing this video to my attention. I was aware of Wendigoon's channel, but I only watched some videos and most of what I watched from there was lengthy icebergs and other stories which didn't really caught my attention. But after watching that video about the lights, it was really cool. It made me see what the appeal of horror (or ghost stories) is and the beauty of it or the beauty of storytelling as a whole. Maybe you just have to look at things positively haha.

Stuff like this is really what makes you appreciate the internet, without them, you would not know what is out there. So yeah thank you Wendigoon for making one of my fav vid and I thank you 🫵 Suyu for sharing this story.

Some of my own thoughts about me (kinda related to Wendigoon's going out and making that video) in the spoiler that I wanted to share:

Stuff like this is really what makes you appreciate the internet, without them, you would not know what is out there. I find it sad for me that I also wanted to go out like that, just going out having these adventures like Sinbad sailing the 7 seas, well that kinda exaggerate things a bit so what I meant was having fun and stuff. But when I think of that I just don't know where to go, and if I do I'll probably go by myself because I don't know who to go with (actually maybe I have no one to go with except my family so I'm still lucky to have that).

Some moments when I'm outside and by myself I kinda felt sad or something, so I have fun outside if I'm with my family. But I gotta learn to have fun by myself tho... so why sad?? Is it my head fucking with me? Whatever......just some thoughts.

I am making some kind of effort? by going out to a local fighting game place and hangout in the future, so there's that.

Oh! I wanted to share a video similar to this too! It's really well made. This would be great for people in high school and lower grades too! But it might also apply for people who need to control their feelings and improve themselves (myself included if I can do it lol). 

There are also many videos similar to this too, I think there was one about getting rejected by a girl.

This has been my favorite video essay for years and it has THOROUGHLY convinced me that Yotsuba is my favorite manga I've never read.
I like it precisely because it has nothing profound to say nor does it try to, it's just a dude talking about something he loves and that energy is infectious.
It's simpleton content but I find that highly refreshing when every other video essay is competing for the biggest brained takes.

Hello hello every 1! Here's another very cool video for you (if you have the time of course). Now I'm not in the LGBT community or anything like that but this is another one of my favorite videos, but this time it's by a trans guy. This vid reminds me of a pretty girl when I was in high school, we talked a few times, it's not like I like her or anything but when I see her, I always feel that she is so confident and pretty... and I think to myself "wow, I want to beautiful like that, I wanna be like her!" (not be a girl tho). I almost wanted to tell to her that she's beautiful and I wanna be like her and how can I be like her, but I didn't, I wouldn't want any misunderstanding. 

Thinking back on it now, I think about if there's something equivalent of being pretty for a girl as a boy and you know girls do makeup and stuff right? That kinda reminds me to take care of myself and boys should pay more attention on taking care of themselves too, so that's kinda cool.

After watching the vid, I think you can just be yourself, just you. It does not matter who you are as long as you can be you. And I've said this before but basically make sure to find people that actually fuck with you.

The person talking in the video reminds me of me, our life story is quite alike but not too much, so it feels relatable. I wonder if men in society have it hard in the current times. I guess you gotta be a man for others...eh idk.

Presenting, a 2012 recording of a social dance event where DDRKirby(ISQ)'s remix of Lullaby of Deserted Hell, Lullaby of Flame, was played as the accompaniment music.

I don't know a thing about dancing, but I can appreciate the circling movement of people as they dance in pairs. It is a bit of a hypnotic mood to see people move so wonderfully and organized without any commands or chaotic factors in the mist. I guess I was so used to seeing everything have a plan, that I forget that humanity could act out for plain fun only. In fact, I should apply that principle of enjoying without fearing the consequences more with my interactions with Touhou.

Speaking of Touhou, this video made me wonder what sort of physical movements could a Touhou fan do to show they are definitely into Touhou? While I am sure there are many movements that could be copied from Touhou music videos, I'm thinking of more about the movements that could be done on the spot, without prior training, like Marisa's handling of the mini-hakkero and Chimata's dollar sign pose. It be nice to say Touhou to other people in a more sneaky fashion that both affirms the passion for Touhou, yet isn't bothersome to be done out in the open.

One last thing, the social dance video made me realize something odd about the Human Village in Gensokyo. Why haven't we seen the anyone from the Human Village practice a type of art? People love Kokoro's dances, so why don't we see troupe try to mimic her routines to recreate and improve upon the art of dance? Alice's puppet shows are a hit with the children of the village, so why can't a person make a handpuppet show inspired by the seven color puppeteer? With the pull the Prismrivers pull with their concerts, why haven't we seen a small music circle practice out at daylight at daylight to remind one of a festive village? It this sort of thing that brothers me, how the Human village is more interested in consuming "media" from youkai, yet we don't see much attempt from the Human Village to recreate what they loved, and ultimately make original from. Of course, it could be intended by ZUN and the sages of Gensokyo to make the Human Village appear culturally dead and more comparable to "youkai cattle", but I really doubt any youkai has the influence to take away the ability to mimic, learn, and create art from humanity. Perhaps it be worth writing more about how some parts of the Human Village are practicing an art to add some flavor to the world of Touhou. It certainly would be good to know that the Human Village can have the same enjoyment as Youkai Mountain did with their White Water Rafting tournament. If the Youkai Mountain can host tournament on a sport despite how flying makes boating down the water mostly pointless, then I am sure the Human Village can do the same with the arts.

As a Canadian I am not wired to have any sense of fear of the winter. One time however I was staying up at my uncles cabin a bit further up north. there was a blizzard. Everyone had left, My sister went on a walk and my aunt and uncle went out to go grab food from a nearby town. So me and my older cousin were the only ones there. She soon ran off to go get better WIFI so I was alone in the cabin for about an hour. I heard some strange noises outside. I thought nothing of it personally but later some of us were panicking over unexplained human bootprints that mysteriously appeared sorrounding the house. This is starting to sound like a horror story but thats where the story im telling ends actually. Watching this video reminded me of that moment alone in the blizzard thinking about those noises and trying to brush them off as natural phenomena from the snow and ice in that moment, yet never able to shake the feeling of being watched.

As much as I love the snow and even the atmosphere of a bad blizzard It can sometimes come off as eerie specifically when dark. Like the snow is hiding some wicked force behind it. Or that force is the snow itself.

Hey all, I'm currently rewriting stuff here, after writing the other post about the draft feature. Oh well, here goes.

I watched this really cool video awhile back, it popped in my youtube recommendations and this is a madness combat animation, I'm guessing because I watched the video "CASIMIR", this video showed up. This video and "CASIMIR" are from madness day (September 22nd), which is a day to celebrate the original series madness combat, and artists make animations to make a tribute to the series, you can find out more here:

Soooo how was it? Pretty cool right? After watching this the first time, this video became one of my favorite madness combat animation. Anyways, here are some of my thoughts. In the comment section, people have talked about the symbolisms and meanings, but I want to talk about another thing. Close to the end of the video, for me, that part made me cry a bit (is it weird to cry to a violent animation? haha), and I think I know why. The creator have already established the relationships and showed how the main characters depended on each other, we continue to see this throughout the video. As we watch their journey together up to the point where the blue shirt guy messes everything up leading to the grey shirt guy being dead then leads to the green shirt guy lashing out and ultimately the death of the trio,... in a way, it's heartbreaking.

Also I can't help but notice some similarities between this video and the others like in cyberpunk edgerunners and 28 days later (go watch them guys, both are really cool). Especially the scene where the green shirt guy was breaking down. I'll show you the clips first:

Can you see the similarities? From what I see, in movies or shows, the characters might need time to show you how their relationships and the emotions in it progress, so when you continue to build it up to lead it to a scene which bursts with emotions, it's effective. That's why in bridge mankind collapse, I'm impressed how the creator did it when the length of the vid is only below 20 minutes. I don't know if something like this was done before in the past, but 28 days later is one of the older medias that I saw did it. The atmosphere and the music too.... why are they so good in these 3 mediums? The music also contribute the emotional feelings lol. Oh, and how I knew about all this? It's thanks to this other video, which is also why I watched 28 days later. You can watch the video the understand more what I'm saying:



Across all 3 medias, the elements to make a powerful scene (that might make you cry) might be arranged differently, but in the end, intentions of the artists can be felt the same. So yeah I just noticed how cool it is that these medias are somewhat related to each other.
