Has IOSYS assasianted Eiki? and other fanon memes

Sorry for such a clickbait-y title, I really could not come up with a better one. Anyway, to the actual topic on hand...

The latest Suwawako video made me thing of something. When I joined the Touhou fandom, IOSYS was pretty much the shit for me (is this how you use the expression?), like it was the coolest Touhou content I was aware of at the time. Nowadays, I am having more of a mixed feeling about them and some of their songs. They have indeed achieved meme status, and I will not able to forget many of them, but man did they make dirty a lot of characters. Probably one of the worst cases being that of Eiki (totally not saying this just because of my fondness for her). Some would probably call it "character assassination", or at least that seems to be the term used nowadays when someone depicts a beloved character in a light that would ruin them. Convictor Yamaxanadu is a song that slaps, but it only contributed to building the basis of the fanon Yama, or at least I feel so...

I have no idea of they did anything about Akyuu, but perhaps it would be better not to ask unless whatever they did about her is actually cool.

Anyway, I am waiting for you to come up with other examples of things you may like or dislike from IOSYS's repertoire, and how they treated your favorite characters.

In my opinion, IOSYSs biggest sin is flanderization. It is pretty blatant in Convictor Yamaxanadu, especially during the whole "dissing scene", but a lot of their songs are guilty of it. I think the problem stems from the fact that a lot of characters in Touhou do not make a lot of appearances which results in many of them not being deeply fleshed out. So when the fanon comes along they tend to exaggerate the traits of characters which tends to result in poor representations of them. This is why I love the covers by Lyrica Live, she is way more respectful of the canon and the characters and does a great job of representing them.

It's telling the game character that got the deepest characterization in the games is Junko. Which you wouldn't expect someone who's only important in one game to get.

And even if we take someone like reimu, she gets different characters traits in different manga, so it's hard to tell what their actual personality is.

Making characters look ridiculous doubles the joy of any franchise. What is the fun of having a bunch of "Mr. Perfects" walking around? We want goofy, we want ridiculous. It just makes me love the characters more, turns them more human in a certain way.

One of the reasons why I think Monty Python is so popular.
