Mine would have to be "The Gensokyo that the gods loves" from MoF. There's just this indescribable emotion that it creates when I listen to it that swells within me, and it's the only song that does that. MoF may not be my favorite touhou game, but that song sure has to be the best in the series, arguably.
 
I'd say Scarlet Chamber - Eastern Dream.. is my favorite Touhou track because of Demetori's arrangements. I don't know it that'd be cheating so I'll also name Lovely Mound of Cherry Blossoms - Japanese Flower just in case.
I think both have extremely strong and beautiful melodies to them.
 
i feel like Snow Or Cherry Petal is the best.
it gives off the feeling of a warm home in a winter land, just like what Perfect Cherry Blossom is.
 
I really like Gensokyo Millennium ~ History of the Moon

More profound, more mature, and carrying a lot of things and burdens—this is my first impression of this song

The first segment carries a heavy sense of responsibility and history, like Eirin’s important status in the Lunar Capital and the glory she created. The second segment is filled with sorrow, melancholy, and a deep longing—just as Eirin wanted to come to the Earth to protect her beloved one, Princess Kaguya: she betrayed the Lunar Capital, slew the envoys of the Lunar Capital, and stayed with the Princess forever

I also picked up on some "sorrowful melodies"—they feel like Eirin’s homesickness. Eirin has actually been longing for the Lunar Capital all along, but her guilt towards Kaguya is far greater than that. The conflict between these two feelings really strikes a chord

I love the piano—it’s the second most representative instrument of Touhou, second only to the ZUNPet. Especially in TH8, the piano is widely used, and I’ve always thought the music of TH8 is the best in the series

Of course, Touhou music also needs to match the characters’ personalities and spell card designs—but I don’t want to go into too much detail here. You can easily find this information on Touhou Wiki

At the same time, I’m not a professional musician, so I can’t delve deeper into the connotations of this piece of music. These are just my personal emotional expressions

Obviously I mean for you personally since it is a subjective thing after all. No surprise at all that my list is very heavily influenced by my love of Wandering Souls, the very first time I ever heard a lot of these tunes. (^_^)

Thread 'Alternative Ranking System ~ Best of Individual Entries'

That's a potentially confusing header, but I'm rather fond of the grammatically unique style of Touhou titles, and once this one emerged I decided to keep it.

The recent popularity poll rekindled an idea I had about ranking within Touhou. Given the extensive nature of the series, some of the categories suffer from impossibly high quantity of options, specifically regarding characters (as has been discussed) and music. As my investment in the series is focused more on the music, my considerations on this matter were formulated in that direction, but I suspect the idea could be applied in...
