Extremely Detailed Strategy Guide?

Hello,

After getting back into Touhou again I've decided to take this interest of mine seriously and get gud as they say. I've looked at strategy guides and haven't found what I was looking for tbh. Do you know any guides that give you step by step instructions on what to do per stage per spellcard? I figured it would be much more efficient if I learned all of the movements in advance (I have a freakishly good memory) rather than just throw myself at it again and again. Cheers.

You're not gonna like hearing this, but that mentality is the exact opposite of what's required to be good at Touhou. Knowing what to do on a spell card or stage portion is one thing, but actually executing it is an entirely different beast. On top of that, many of these sections are determined by RNG and demands fast reactions instead of simply 'knowing the pattern'. Part of the fun that comes with learning the Touhou games is seeing yourself progressively getting better over time, which requires you put the hours into practicing it.

That said, you can certainly be more efficient by downloading the Touhou Practice Patch (thprac). It lets you skip to specific stage parts, boss non-spells, and spell cards if there's a particular one that's giving you trouble. I recommend it to all folks getting into the games, as it's a massive help with becoming consistent.

I agree with YuyuFumo however I would like to point out some additional things.
Best practice of understanding Touhou in my opinion is Touhou 14.3 Impossible Spell Card.
There, you only have short spell cards. They are very hard, yet, they really helped me in a sense to understand the fundamental structure of all Danmaku.
Every single spell card is like a math problem, you analyze it, then you think what item will be most beneficial and then you SMASH that spellcard into non existance!
However be aware not to get yourself into a closed mindset! Using Jizo statue might be cool on mid tier stages, however, sometimes it just won't do! Even gap folding umbrella is incredibly useful on some late stages spell cards!

Those "math problems" really help you develop your thinking skills and dodging skills. After all, only through errors, you become better, the more, the better. After completing Touhou 14.3 as much as I could. I became CRACKED in playing other parts. 10/10 would reccomend.

Also really love Touhou 19 in this aspect.
From time to time, I launch it to verse some CPUs on Lunatic while been on Yuuma. Extremly fun. I don't even use C1 or C2 that often, I just use C3 and C4 to get bombs through that one cool card you can select on the character selection screen. After all, there will be a moment in the very end, where only having 5 bombs to your name will save you. Really love putting to those CPUs max health and quick regenerating shields. They might be strong, but would I lose? Nah, I'd win.
So yeah, if you just want to have fun playing Touhou while simultaniously getting better. Beat every single CPU in Touhou 19 on Lunatic. It's very fun.

(There is also a secret techique on how to become god like in Touhou without doing anything, just get a single beer down and you will be beating shit out everybody while getting synced with the music ZUN have made. After all, Touhou never was meant to be played sober)
