Can Touhou fighting games be played with a gamepad?

Hi,

I've finally tried a Touhou fighting game for the first time (7.5  Immaterial and Missing Power - non patched version, all in Japanese, that I downloaded from the Moriyashrine torrent). It seems to be working fine but I can only control the game using the keyboard. I know there's a config window (external to the game) that allowed me to change control keys, switch to full screen, set the music level etc.). No problem on that point.

But, for the love of me, I simply can't find a way to set up a gamepad. Even though my controller is plugged and working fine with other games, it just doesn't work with 7.5. Touhouwiki says "Immaterial and Missing Power may be played using either a keyboard or a gamepad."

I'm lost.

is 7.5 or other Touhou fighting games keyboard only?

As someone who plays soku on game pad, it works with the others. I’m not sure why 7.5 isn’t working, as I haven’t played it. But all the others do support it, as long as you have it plugged in before you boot the game.

That's what I thought, and I have no clue whatsoever as to why it doesn't work. I tried X input, D input, plugging before or after I launch the game, obviously I also tried cursing at the game. No success.

The game works, I can play with the keyboard. The Logitech F310 gamepad works, I just played Crazy Taxi on Redream. Weird.

I just downloaded 14.5 and 15.5. Hopefully I'll be more successful with these ones.

Oh nice! 15.5 is the better of those two if want to go by balance-wise.

I did download 14.5 and 15.5 from the torrents.

Both work fine, no issue with the game pad.

No idea why 7.5 isn't working with the game pad. I'll try reinstalling during the weekend, or run in compatibility mode. Maybe playing this older game on Win11 is the main issue.
