Anyone Else Have Trouble Introducing Touhou To Your Family As A Result Of All The Fanservice And Yuri Derivative Works?

SateriCat17

Neko Youkai Meijin
Well, the subject is exactly as the title says. I would try to show my family more things relating to Touhou (even if they aren't interested in it), but all of the fanservice works and all of those works with yuri (even if it's played just as a joke) are one of the main things which prevent me from doing just that.
Of course, I don't really like the fanservice and yuri works much myself, but I can ignore it for the most part at least, but, I know it wouldn't sit well with my family. My sister would maybe be the only one willing to also somewhat ignore it (at least in regards to the fanservice stuff). (Still though, despite her being an adult now, she is my YOUNGER sister, so I'd still be uncomfortable with showing her Touhou works with such things.)
Of course, besides Touhou fanworks, there are some official stuff I'd be worried about their reactions to (particularly stuff relating to the hells, and some character designs such as Hecatia and Urumi).
Regardless though, that's largely side worries in comparison to the fanservice and yuri works, as it's not like I'm wanting to show them everything related to Touhou.
I'm not asking for any advice or anything like that (as I had already gotten some of that from another Touhou creator on YouTube I follow, and he's the reason I decided to go through with telling my parents that I like Touhou). I'm just wondering if anyone else shares my predicament.

I would say "Don't care about their reactions and just talk" but i don't think that's helpful.
Though, it's not like putting your family into a japanese doujin is gonna work anyways, unless they're into the medium already, you're gonna have culture shock. Plus depending on where you are, you'll get criticized, shamed even.
Honestly why would you do that if you know they won't handle the whole package? Might put that energy onto friends who you can actually talk about these things with.

Mainly because I wanted to make sure they know that I like it. Also, at the time (and still even now), I had no other way to play the Touhou games besides on the family computer, and so I wanted to tell them it about to make sure that they wouldn't say "what are these Touhou files on the computer?". It's not like I wouldn't have been able to hide it much anyway, as when Daddy had taken my new phone before to look at something, he suddenly scrolled to the side and saw the Touhou mobile games I had downloaded.
But, another big reason is that I love the music, and so I wanted to share some of that to them. In general, I also didn't feel right about hiding the fact I'd gotten interested in Touhou.
Most of the stuff I'm interested in are things I've never even told my sister about, so I wanted to lift some burden off my shoulders.
Regardless, it would've become impossible for me to at least not tell them I like Touhou eventually.

I forced my brother to play Touhou 17.
He is still not a fan. (I also forced him to watch with me about 14 episodes of Memories of Phantasm, that was probably a bad idea)
Sort of the same experience of me with my sister then. lol

Another thing I'll say, is that back in January and February of this year, my laptop broke down, so that prevented me from even being able to play the games in the first place anymore. Well, my laptop breaking down changed a lot of things, but regardless, it made it to where I was forced to play on the family computer. So, yet another reason I told them was to use an alibi for what I was listening to on there besides Minecraft.
And besides, the official Touhou works themselves don't have fanservice or anything like that, so I decided that if there was really anything I'd be able to tell them about in regards to my interests, it'd be Touhou.
Of course, my parents don't really question what I'm interested in as long as it's not something "bad".

Touhou is not some kind of religion guys, you don't have to introduce and explain it to others, let alone "converting" people. Just enjoy it and let other people think it's some kind of anime, they probably wouldn't care anyway
Well, I'm not seeking to "convert" my family. As I said, I just wish I could show more stuff relating to Touhou to my family, but depending on what it is, they'd probably be weirded out. Still, it's not like I can't show anything related to Touhou to them. There are certain things I can send. Just have to be extra careful with what I show to them.

Pretty much any franchise will have some kind of lewd or unsavory side to it, no matter what it is or how innocent it seems. If you're just dying to let other people know what Touhou is (which isn't even necessary 99% of the time), then just say it's a bunch of arcade-style computer games with good music. Most folks won't try and pry any further than that unless they're trying to moralfag.

Well, I'm still planning on introducing my parents to the games themselves at the very least besides also with the music and some of the characters. Though, when I played some music from EoSD in the car for my Daddy, he said it was weird. lol
Though he did like Remilia's theme.
But anyway, I am thinking of getting my Daddy to buy the EoSD remake for the Nintendo Switch 2, though I haven't firmly decided on it yet.
And in regards to pretty much every franchise having it's "darker underbelly", that is something I've already long known about. It's just of course, that I don't like that sort of side.
One of the reasons I hate fanservice is, because of how my brain works, I'm typically sympathetic towards others (even to the extent of fictional characters), so I dislike it even more because of that.

Whatever, do as you will. You might also want to stop calling your father "Daddy", that word has lots of sexual undertones to it and is extremely weird for a 20-something year old man to be typing.
Uhh... Well, I'm sorry, but that's not gonna change. I'll very likely be calling him that even when I'm over 50.
I've called him that for pretty much my entire life (very likely already since I learned to speak), and it'd quite literally be impossible for me to get out of the habit of it too.
Besides, I don't particularly care if someone else finds it strange. He's my Daddy, and I'll call him however I want.
Too many people find the wrong things strange...
I'm sorry that I sound rude, but it's just as a whole something which I won't change.

Besides, isn't it weirder for a bunch of 20 to 40 year-old guys to like a series of games about magical girls fighting each other?
