Lol I didn't notice this until I was doing the Touhou vote how many of the songs I like have the choir elements. Border of Life like you mention, Ancient Temple, Plain Asia, Voyage 1969, Lunatic Princess (which has some really weird choir-esque sounds). Sometimes they are more subtle and other...

I've only listened to a handful of their songs but somehow they fall just short for me. In general I think they just don't push things as far as I would want. I listened to 砂の肖像 as you recommended. For my own tastes, the melody is sort of boring, and I'd like it more if it was pushed faster...

Alright so I played through Medicine's route in PoFV for the first time and I've warmed up on her a little bit. I liked how ZUN played around with the idea of her being created alone in that field and staying there for so long in that she needs to learn basic stuff like how to interact with...

Thank you for the write-up! It was well-written and I think it was a good collection of all the information that we have about Rin. Speaking about her being a nurse. My only protest would be wondering how her signs would fit in with that role. With Reimu Spirit fits in pretty well with being a...

This is what the book Perfect Memento in Strict Sense says about the Hill of the Nameless. So first of all it is a story so old that it is questionable whether or not it is true, and then if it is you'd have to question if Medicine had been there this long. And then, you'd have to question how...

This reply is much more measured. I don't think that the song is spectacular either, so I can sympathize with how you find it lacking. It's just that your previous diatribe was such an extreme admonishment of what is really just an alright song that it was hard to tell if it was even hyperbolic...

So this depends on how you like to experience your media, but personally I enjoy going through things in roughly release order, and to help with that endeavor the Release Timeline on the wiki has been very helpful to me. It only covers first-party releases, so those that ZUN created or was...

Reading your description here I thought I'd be in for some outrageous cringe but listening to the song it really is rather inoffensive. I'm surprised that you read the song as from the perspective of a "infantilized child spilling snot"; to me it seems to have much more of a searching and...

This was my first Extra stage clear.

Well, that's really all that you've got to show if you are just trying to give someone an idea, right?

The only media that necessarily needs to be connected to Touhou is the official releases. The nice thing about fan works is that if we don't enjoy it or if we find it objectionable then we can entirely write it off as the creation of someone unrelated to the real series. Which is to say that...

Or find somewhere else. There is a great variety of places to discuss Touhou all with different attitudes towards this sort of thing.

1917 is quite notably a much earlier date than when Touhou became relevant :Sanae:

I suppose I don't really consider Russia a part of "the west." I guess it is kind of a strange middle-point, though.

Yes, I considered this, but I think that TF2 is missing out on the physical community. TF2 certainly makes a fair representation at various multi-fandom cons but there is no "TF2-con" as it is. TF2 also has a character-focused fandom that creates a good many works but given that the origins of...

Definitely Youmu and Yuyuko. The combination of the earnest serious servant and the more easy-going teasing master is funny and charming to me. I see it twisted around a lot but Yuyuko is the wiser of the duo which makes the teasing funnier because it is definitely on purpose. Reading the...

I've got a few on 6 and 7, and just got one on 8 last night. All on normal. So I suppose I'll be looking at 9 next. Sorta just going in order.

I generally agree with your criticisms. Of course, no one can deny that the MLP fandom as it was got stunted by the actual end of Gen 4 and as such will never really get the lengthy cultural development that Touhou has. Remnants of the fanbase still exist here and there and I don't think it will...

I get what you mean about Star Wars. Now that I'm thinking about it, I think an additional spirit towards what I was talking about in the main post is almost about the fan base outsizing its original work. When I think of the breadth of creations withing Touhou and MLP it seems that they almost...

I like the average Akatsuki Records song more than I like the average Shinra-Bansho song, but man does Shinra-Bansho really just have some all-time greats. I'd really say that Shinra-Bansho has managed to achieve much greater heights than Akatuski has, but again there is a consistency to the...
