ah, touhou 6! the first touhou game i played. Introduced me to touhou project series, as well as made me addicted to whole "bullet hell shmup" thing, resulting in me 1cc-ing every windows-era game except SA and PoFV.
truly a timeless classic, that falls into... "overrated but still good" category, with the most popular character cast out of all games.
Mechanics-wise, it's... quite easy to understand. All what you really need to do is just graze (Each star item gained from clearing pattern is worth 500 points + 10 points for every 3 grazes you have that stage) bullets, shoot enemies, dodge bullets, and get as much score as possible for getting the most extra lives.
extra lives are awarded at 10, 20, 40, and 60 million points.
oh, and the way deathbombing functions in this game is interesting:
you have 6 frame deathbomb window. Upon deathbombing, the deathbomb time window will decrease with amount of frames it took you to deathbomb, down to having only 1 frame, which resets after losing a life.
Difficulty-wise, it's... average. Would not say that it's too hard, but at the same time... it's not easy. Majority of patterns are RNG based, meaning that most of time you have to rely on pure dodging, but besides that, their density is not that huge. And Remilia is quite dissapointing for stage 6 boss.
Shot types:
ReimuA - Homing amulets that deal poor damage against bosses, but handle stages without any issues. Fantasy Seal... sucks.
ReimuB - Needles with low range that allow to deal good DPS. Way better than whatever was the mediocre mess that goes by the name of MoF ReimuB. Her non-homing amulets have arc though, so i guess, balance between stage/boss performance?
MarisaA - Missiles that deal good DPS to Bosses, bomb is... alright. Honestly never really used her that often.
MarisaB - piercing lasers and better range than MarisaA, both of which allow to have good balance between stage/boss performance. and the Master Spark is BUSTED!!! Only TD/WBaWC/UM master spark can be as powerful as EoSD variant.
Also, all bombs in this game auto-collect, so if you're at low power or can't reach POC line... then you can just bomb to grab all those falling resources! this comes in handy on stages2/4/6, giving how generous this game can be with resources with it's 4 starting lives/3 bombs, which with proper experience gives enough resources not only to abuse bomb auto-collect, but also still being able to take a beating without any serious issues.
EoSD is alright as an first game, and good one to be used as "comfort game" too. Not the best for a first game, but at the same time can teach quite a lot of SHMUP basics for beginners.
(also retexture patch gives off the "this will be ______ in 2016" vibes lmao)
