Your favourite and least liked/most hated PC-98 Character?

There's like so many lines I can say. However, I'll simply refrain from saying anything, other than I have an idea of which kind of people composes the majority of the Touhou yuri fanbase.
 
My favourite character in the PC-98 games certainly has to be Shinki and Orange.

Shinki's design is really cool and her patterns in 5 are really memorable. Orange despite being super easy and the fact that she literally isn't able to unleash her final attack before the player defeats her. I am a really big fan of her design and she really does give proto-meiling vibes. and her dark blue hair sprite is really sick too.

For characters i hate? I can't really say for sure cause there is barely any characters from the PC-98 era that i can say i dislike. What i could say tho is that Touhou 1 and 2 has imo some of the least memorable characters in the PC-98 era. save for exceptions like Marisa and Mima.

I would say Genji and Meira are very memorable as well, considering they are sometimes mentioned too, and even Meira making it into Touhou AI (for those who don't know it's the live stream on youtube with Touhou characters interacting with eachother, topics being suggested by people, then AI making lines appropriate to who the characters are)

Yeahhh i left Reimu out cause like you have her in every game lol. The interaction between Reimu and Meira is really funny. Meira certainly feels like a character that would be really outdated and say the most wild and offensive stuff like it's normal.

And honestly it's what i like about her, she isn't afraid of expressing her opinions unlike people scared of the cancel culture nowadays
And as the wise saying goes, from the most controversial person in Poland "If you are afraid, you're already a slave"

And also i like when a Touhou character occassionally says something obscure, same with Yuuka in Mystic Square "Massacre is just another game, regardless wheter it's humans or makai residents" or something like that

For sure! One big problem i have with some of the newer touhou characters is usually the dialogues are done in a way where you rarely see a character's full personality in it, and what their opinion on certain stuff happening is.

Yeah when i was playing PCB i hardly could notice the distinction between each character's personality, besides Marisa's

And even Wriggle is significantly more obscure than Rumia. Guess people just don't like a yuki-onna like Letty...

Even tho Rumia is far more recognisable. i would say Wriggle has a more cult-like fanbase than Rumia. Similar to Cirno but just nowhere to the levels of Cirno's popularity

Speaking of Cirno, i swear i have seen more people excited to see Cirno as a midboss in the first stage of PCB than Letty herself. Absolutely diabolical that a midboss overshadows the actual boss in a level..

To be more serious, I think it mainly has to do with how Letty has certain aspects that are similar to two other characters: Cirno and Yuyuko.
Now, I of course like Cirno and Yuyuko both immensely (how could I not like the silly prideful fairy and airheaded gluttonous ghost?), but Cirno has ice powers similar to Letty (Letty most likely has far stronger raw ice and snow power though) and she also has pink(ish) hair similar to Yuyuko, so others see that and just don't understand how interesting Letty can be on her own.

But i also feel like Letty has the potentional of being something more. but we haven't really gotten any winter themed incidence in a long time so we haven't really gotten any chance of seeing her more outside of PCB. Also the fact that she is actually pretty powerful but we haven't really seen the extend of it due to her being a stage one boss..
 
I also just love Letty's design. Though I do love the vast majority of Touhou character designs, and is most often how I get into a character, while the character's personality and further characterization is what makes me further dedicated to that character.

That is one of multiple reasons why I love Letty so much. She has so much potential, far more than probably almost any stage 1 Touhou boss to date.
Heck, the only reason she's a stage 1 boss in PCB in the first place is because of her mainly just playing around and her getting ready for hibernation.
If her power were to be used in the right way (and right season, of course), she could potentially be one of the more powerful Touhou characters.

Letty's design is what got me first into her. and slowly she has grown more and more on me in the years. Yuuma will forever be my all time favourite since i have been a fan of her design and personality since before i even got into touhou. But Letty has held the position of my 2 most favourite character for a while. Which is surprising cause my second favourite usually changes pretty often!

Same for me, Letty's design is peak and is the main reason why i like her
