As I posted here an eternity if we're talking internet terms ago, there is a world that my OC came from that I've steadily been building bit by bit... and might have a few books worth of in story writing that I'm embarrassed to share with the wider populace of the world. So please don't hurry yourself, just create what you feel is a natural progression from the plot points you want to explore, even if you have to delete entire sections of your book. Advice which I might've had a hard time following, as the most judgmental critic of your own book is yourself.

However, that's not all I want to post here.

Ah, yes, OC's, a microcosm of your own character development. You draw from your own experiences about the world to create them and call for them to help guide you in the eternal march of life towards death.
And as I continued experiencing the world around, as well as doing world-building for Yru, this statement held true as Shinso Hakui has now become two different people yet held the same past. Mostly because I wanted to explore how different a person can become depending on the dominant personality trait.

You know how I offhandedly remarked that Shinso is powerful enough to be a Kasha? Yeah, some shenanigans that she initiated happened and now the Kasha is half her soul inhabiting some other poor (human) Nekomata's body whose soul was sent to an area simply called the Court akin to the Yama of Touhou which is effectively death in this universe. The Kasha reverted back to Nyoko Hakui while Shinso Hakui, the (Shinto) Nekomata half who stayed in the original body, would refer to herself as such.

The Hakui people being a cover name for Tsuki Kasha, which they were and are revered as a hero of the place they inhabit, yet that name was also used as a cover name for Mina No Katto which is just a name for joking fun. And maybe because I exercise a blunt naming style for most of the names in the world. One does not just name a city "Hayaku" and expect the joke to not be immediately obvious to anyone with even a modicum of knowledge of the Japanese language.

The dominant traits of both is held in the beliefs of their respective myths, or at least what understanding I can garner about them. The Kasha tend to have a sadistic bent while the (Shinto) Nekomata tend to have a vindictive bent. I have also assigned them different domains of expertise already but I've been talking for a while now and the rest of the stuff I'll list hereafter are things that require a bit of explaining but are rooted in some myth or sacred text.

Canonically in the world, the Nekomata is the custodian of the Path of Needles.
To add to that, the Kasha works for the Path of Needles.
Hell runs a feudal system like the Japanese one with king Enma substituting for the Japanese emperor.
The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse as is written in the bible is a thing.
King Enma is the Horseman of Famine.

If you want more explanation, you can ask. The answer might have to wait, but I'll have one ready.
God, why do I keep writing such large walls of text?

Do you know what is one thing I miss from the old days of the internet? OCs, Original Characters. For all the cringey self-inserts, Donut Steel jokes and recolors of Sonic the Hedgehog, there was a charming innocence to them. Most were a child or teen’s attempt at creating something new for a world they loved. Some did not fit the source material, but felt genuinely good enough to have their own story. Others fit flawlessly. For some reason though, I seldom see people talk about their Original Characters today. I’m not sure if it’s gone out of vogue with the rise of multiplayer games or I just don’t know where to find them.

(Long post, prepare yourselves.)

I think its mostly about being judged by others negatively or people not being into them like the creator is. Like you might have some genuinely grand idea, but when you draw/write them it just isn't up to par with what you imagined.

The other theory is that rather than reveal OC X, one would simply just make an original story that was originally based off an FC for a series that evolved into its own story outside of the work that originally inspired them, in this case Touhou.

Some even mentioned this in this post that their Touhou OC became an OC in their own world and such.

With all that being said, there was a post about Touhou Content I commented on about "making our own content" and after that post I actually began writing an idea out of the blue, one I still am half-serious about posting here. I say "half-serious" because while I do want to, I feel like I still need to iron it out. Also what I've read of the posts here show more than a day's worth of work unlike what I literally just came up with yesterday lol.

Also @Yumeto: you mentioned something about good content taking time to get noticed by someone. Paraphrasing but it seriously hit me in the kokoro and is kinda making me wanna take it seriously for a change, in particular picking up that dusty old tablet but more on that some other time...

Anyway I'll try to be brief.

I am still uncertain of the name of the character, but I wanted it to be an isekai type story that Yukari, for whatever reason, influenced. The story wouldn't have any real direction beyond gradually revealing why she summoned this mysterious character the "Mercenary Maid" from the Outside World.

The (currently nameless) Maid in question wouldn't have an real powers... at first, but would gradually develop them throughout the story and interactions with the other characters they meet on the way and this alone would be the clue/hook that would make the reader go "Why would a powerful Youkai like Yukari bring some 'powerless' human from the outside world and then let them act freely? Just what is she scheming...?"

As for the Maid itself, I was thinking of making them a highschooler/college student who likes cosplay and winds up in Gensokyo while in a maid clothes, deciding to stick with it while believing all this is just some 'weird dream'

Their personality is rather serious, despite their hobby, but slowly lightens up. As to why they are kinda grouchy at first has to do with their outside world life. The idea is that as they gradually begin accepting that they are 'stuck' in Genskyo, the Maid's heart slowly lightens their mood/personality and awakens their latent abilities which is heavily implied Yukari already knew about somehow.

The idea for making it an isekai is mostly due to it being easier for me to write lol. There's other reasons but maybe I should stop here for now lol.

And Nyoko, don't worry about wall texts, I happen to enjoy reading~

I'm glad I could give you a positive influence like that. :) I will say, relish your youth while you can. Not because I am nostalgic for my youth or it has some innate purity, but because when you get older, its very hard to find time for yourself. In between taking care of yourself and starting a family, its difficult to learn new skills, and harder to keep an eye on your health. If you have an interest in gaming or art, your teens and early twenties are the best time to jump in. You can learn a skill at any age, if you invest your mind and will into it. But again, finding that time is harder than you'd think.

That sounds fun. :) I have a similar idea that crossed my mind. I had an idea of making it a fan fiction, or perhaps an animated series, following the adventures of people dropped into Gensokyo. I thought it would be more action focused. I would really love to make a young man who appeals to Eastern audiences. I think there is still a market for extreme fight scenes. One the MCU has shrunk away from. No one has quite matched Monty Oum's work, in the first three seasons of RWBY and before it. I think Gensokyo would lend itself to that kind of setting well.

i used to have ocs during my kpopper era but not anymore

i created a character based on someone that existed but implementing some traces of myself on them

i don't know if this fits on the definition off an oc

i admire those who put so much effort into their character development :)

actually i dunno if i'll really do it cause my OCs actually belong in a videogame/comic/show thing called "mathilda's world" and it's pretty much memey and... kinda """kinky""".
I'd say it counts as an FC (Fan character) which is like the little twin sibling of the OC (as to me, the definition of OC is an original character for an original series, whereas an FC is an, implied original character made by a fan for an existing series. Anyone can feel free to correct me or elaborate on this)

Either way though creation is awesome and I second suyu_ in that it is indeed admirable when people put the time and effort into it.

I misread that as "kapparapper" and imagined someone dressed as Nitori being a DJ at a club :KoishiXD:

please elaborate

I wasn't talking about FCs I was talking about how memey and weird the plot is

Ah ok maybe my understanding between FCs and OCs are wrong. I'm also not familiar with "Mathilda's World". I thought it was an already existing series that you made a character for. (which to me is an FC). I am now under the impression its your own unique story (which to me is an OC)

I'll try to elaborate further, that an FC is made specifically to fit into an existing series (such as Touhou) where as an OC is a character that is part of an original series and/or stand alone universal character that does not specifically belong anywhere. It can still be used in RPs/fanfics of existing series but have their own individual lore/origins that are not bound by the rules of any specific series, other than their own if they have one.

And yea reading it again sounds like you were wondering if to post or not based on the plot and its themes rather than the character itself.  Such mistakes often mean my caffeine tank is running low lol.

Lastly: Weird is good!

actually the last time i created an oc i started to have daydreams about me being the oc irl, and for the sake of myself i decided to stop doing it

Interesting because I'm the type who would welcome such a thing. If you're willing to elaborate as to why you stopped, I'd love to hear more about it.

lol k

also btw mathilda's world is basically some sort of omori ripoff except it's based on my own life (which is hell)

for me, i made a design of a character with a z which is like the first time a touhou character had a z at the start but that was before zanmu was introduced, so i took inspiration from the design and remake her into something fresh. (no pic provided yet btw) and her name was “yokono saikyuu” (which according to google translate, it’s “next to”, “the fastest”) so i took that for an ability which was to manipulate speed. like any kind of speed wether it’s time or running speed, and can go from teleporting or complete stop. i have an idea for like a servant to yokono which is a vampire that’s older than the scarlets (800 years old actually) and no idea what she can manipulate yet nor a confirmed name yet. but anyway, yokono saikyuu is 2000 years old youkai of sorts (no confirmed species) and so that’s about it for yokono, nothing really finalized yet. so yeah that’s what i got lmao heeeeeeeee

This sums everything up perfectly!

Anyway, where can I learn more/read mathilda's world? I'm interested in this particular brand of 'hell'~
i didn't mean "hell" i meant "extremely mega mid"

also i made a thread on the human village but i haven't posted the plot and characters YET

I’ve recently started a fun little CYOA here on the site. While I was tinkering with the wonky formatting from my cloud, it struck me despite Oscar being the fic’s main character I have never brought him up. So, time to bore you all with my latest creation (and bump the thread for future generations). Tried a new art style below. If you don't care for the art, I'd like to see you do better in MS Paint over a lunch break.

Oscar Diggs the Fourth is a stage performer, excelling at the art of trickery magic. While he has some talent at the art, poor Oscar has been having some hard times lately. He lost his job, and is now consigned to performing at children’s parties part-time. At least, until he awakens in the land of the Youkai.

Oscar himself was an OC I devised for a roleplaying game on the site here. The head of a pretend corporation dedicated to helping Outsiders prosper, and acquire magical relics. He was meant to be a dealer in unorthodox antiques, and a connection for any Outsider characters. Sadly, several people who joined the games I set up vanished from the site, which discouraged me from continuing. Otherworldly Ventures, his company, is mostly made of smaller businesses. Fisheries, farms, market stalls, even a clinic. If you're an Outsider who has arrived in Gensokyo, its a good place to work to meet your basic needs. The downside is to join, you have to agree to work for them for five to ten years, and give up most of the money you earn. But its protected by humans and friendly Youkai, gives you food and shelter, and you learn life skills about living in Gensokyo.

Since Gensokyo is technically an isekai, I decided to make Oscar a reference to one of the first Isekai series. The Wizard of Oz. Like the original Wizard, he’s a cowardly charlatan. Getting by on a mix of cunning, intelligence and basic occult knowledge. This he uses to traverse the land, defeat Youkai, and eventually start up Otherworldly Ventures. I like to think that is part of his appeal. That the story involves him facing Gensokyo with its miracles and monsters without a heroic destiny, but with a high school education and basic life skills.
