.dat files nor replays are recognized by steam

Buwako

True God of the Boriya Shrine
so i've had this issue for a couple of years. it has bothered me, but the only reason im trying to do something about it now is because my laptop is getting old. and if for whatever reason it just stops working, then i'm probably gonna lose all my data and replays. oddly enough, this is only an issue with th10-12 (and the most unfortunate because i love these games)

so, in my th10 folder from the common folder on steam, theres a th10.dat folder (which i think is where all the data is saved and the replay file has all my th10 replays too. thcrap can recognize these files, so i have data on my english patched version. but steam doesnt recognize these files for some reason. i think this used to be an issue with other touhou games i had on steam, but i guess now they have the data? i remember th13 not having the data specifically, but now it does. so thats good i suppose. still worried about my data in the older 3.

i've tried a whole bunch of things, including reinstalling the game and adding my data back. steam just will not recognize anything. is there a way to fix this or is my best bet buying a USB and storing data there?

Message is confusing me, are you trying to backup your game or just your saves & replays?
If it's the later... Ugh, I'm sorry to tell you but your save data is in the score .dats (ex. 'scoreth11.dat'), so if you didn't save those before you reinstalled, it might be gone.

'i remember th13 not having the data specifically, but now it does.' - do you use clouddrive / opendrive / whatever-it-was-called, the thingy that keeps files safe across multiple devices?

so, i bought these games on steam a long time ago. then i used thcrap to patch them. something happened with a couple of my games to which it seems that the steam version got its data wiped, like a brand new touhou game. however, my thcrap english patched version still has all my scores and data. i checked the japanese th10 folder, and all of my replays are still there. so this means that my data wasnt deleted, but the original steam version just doesnt recognize my files even though they are there in the file. im trying to see it theres a way to fix this.

and luckily i did backup my entire folder just in case, but i didnt try adding the scoredat file. i dont think its going to do anything though unfortunately because my replays didnt show in the reinstalled japanese version.

as for if i have onedrive on my computer... i would have to check but i dont think i do. unless i misremember something my other games just somehow got their data back when i was checking what games i needed to fix, so now its just th10-12 that i need to deal with

You are saying that you bought the game on Steam, but then you are writing like the Steam version and your THCRAP patched version are separate?

Can you maybe explain the file structures involved here? Just do TH10 as an example. I don't really get what you mean by "the Japanese th10 folder" because it seems to me that THCRAP patches the same game folder so I don't understand why you have separate folders?

They probably mean that the thcrap shortcuts are else were, not in OG folders. I think there is Steam setting for that save data thing... but I don't have it installed right now so I can't check.

Edit: Actually, I take that back. Maybe they have two installation... like redownloading the game by mistake, so your idea is a pretty good next step.
OP, can you check if the path on Steam and thcrap path are the same?
