One Of The Concepts For A Possible Touhou Fangame I Have (Blooming Rain in Eden)

SateriCat17

Neko Youkai Meijin
So, among the various concepts for future Touhou fangames I could make (and so far, one of the most developed) is for this one which I've named "Blooming Rain in Eden" (Eden obviously being a reference to the Garden of Eden). The main story of the game is that out of nowhere, mysterious immensely powerful fairies and plants (along with a strange otherworldly rainstorm) pour out from a strange garden which appeared on the edge of Gensokyo. With the coming of the strange fairies and plants, all humans (full and half) have become sick or paralyzed (which includes Reimu, Marisa, Sanae, Youmu and Sakuya) and alongside that, all of the fairies in Gensokyo have become as powerful as the youkai or even gods within Gensokyo (though unlike the Four Seasons Incident, the fairies' increase in power is more stable) and all magic in Gensokyo has become twice as powerful as normal. So, instead of the usual incident resolvers, four teams of unlikely incident resolvers set out to investigate...

Team 1: Yuuka Kazami and Medicine Melancholy. As a result of the plants and fairies spreading them all causing mayhem in the Garden of the Sun and Nameless Hill, Yuuka and Medicine, both friends, decide to investigate who is sending these fairies who are spreading the plants about Gensokyo (alongside Yuuka hoping to meet a fellow flower enthusiast).

Team 2: Satori Komeiji and Rin Kaenbyou. As a result of the plants being spread to the underground (thereby making Former Hell appear like a lush tropical jungle), Satori decides that as master of the Palace of the Earth Spirits, she shall investigate this strange incident alongside Orin on behalf of the residents of Former Hell and because of Orin sensing some form of "death" within the flowers these plants are blooming.

Team 3: Patchouli Knowledge and Hong Meiling. As a result of the plants making Sakuya fall ill and because of Patchouli's magic becoming far more powerful than normal, Remilia decides to send Patchouli out to investigate the incident together with Meiling so that they can hopefully restore Sakuya back to normal and to find out why Gensokyo's magic has increased in power.

Team 4: Sunny Milk and Star Sapphire. As a result of the flowers making the fairies of Gensokyo abnormally powerful, Sunny and Star decide to go out to have some fun. They ask Luna if she wants to come along, but she declines (though she later sets out on her own to find out the cause of the incident and to find Sunny and Star, but she later gets caught in the crossfire and becomes the Extra Stage midboss). From the misfortune of their "fun", they may just accidently help in resolving this ridiculous incident.

I'll explain some about who the incident starter is and about the mysterious gardens and it's inhabitants which have appeared in Gensokyo. (Though, I do not have names for the characters just yet, so it'd really only be the main three.) To start with, the master of the gardens is an ancient powerful youkai referred to as "The Flower Goddess". At her side sit her "right" and "left"-hand servants, a pair of equally ancient powerful fairies (who are the Stage 5 boss and Stage 6 midboss/Extra Stage boss respectively, and they are far closer to youkai or even gods than they are fairies by now). The gardens themselves are also ancient, though it's old history beyond a few centuries ago is only known to the Flower Goddess and her two fairy servants. The garden itself should be thought of as a type of "roaming Gensokyo" and alongside that, is larger than Gensokyo itself. The gardens have various different sections within it, and with it containing the "essence" of all different types of ancient and modern legendary and mythological gardens (particularly of botanical gardens especially). Some of the sections in the gardens include one part appearing like a large tropical rainforest no different than the ones you might find in South America or Indonesia, another part appearing like the Hanging Gardens of Babylonia (it even very well may BE those very gardens), and yet other part appearing something like the Elysian Fields. Two sections even resemble traditional Japanese and Chinese gardens. There also exist countless greenhouses which reside in the gardens, much of them resembling rainforests or other types of environments. (I would imagine that the final boss fight would probably be in the largest botanical greenhouse in the gardens. Either there or one of the countless temple structures in the gardens.) Regardless, it contains many different sections filled with numerous plants and animals (and much like Gensokyo, it contains many different extinct species as well). Among the inhabitants of the gardens include fairies, youkai, and gods (though most of them are more similar to western conceptions of them, as a result of the gardens originally coming from somewhere in ancient Europe). The reasons for WHY the Flower Goddess would decide to invade Gensokyo would largely be unknown because of her silent nature, though the few things she would say would imply her intending to merge Gensokyo (alongside the underground and the Netherworld) into the garden for even more unknown reasons. As a result of her plans failing due to her defeat by the heroines, she would make the garden disappear from Gensokyo forever. (The events of the Extra Stage would be the "left"-hand fairy servant attempting to exact revenge on the heroines for defeating "her Lady" and her friend. The "left"-hand fairy servant is herself the more powerful of the two servants.) This at the very least is the "summary" of some of the game's story and background lore.

I would love to hear what you think about it! Those of you who are more creative and smarter than myself may also suggest certain additions to the characters or story. Though, there is still no guarantee I'll actually be able to ever make this into a proper game...

PS
Just some minor edits. Specifying that much of the gardens themselves are primarily botanical gardens and changing the singular "garden" to "gardens" to give a sense of the fact that "the garden" is in fact multiple gardens (though that should've been obvious already), along with giving a bit more details towards the existence of the greenhouses and temple structures within the gardens.

Oh. And sorry for the long walls of text. lol

One more thing to add is that I had come up with this concept when me and my family went to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens a few weeks ago. That is also what made me decide to create more concepts for Touhou fan works for possible future use (though I had already come up with a few Touhou fangame concepts beforehand). I just came up with the finer details of the game while I was in the shower over an hour ago by now.

Sorry but I don't like your idea of making a fairy boss shy and timid at all.
Fairies got slightly stronger every incident, but antagonists never really cared about that. Why? Obviously, fairies are useless, all they can do is being vessels of natural energy.
BUT if the antagonist's power is nature, she would use fairies for sure. And I think she would be a fairy, even. I'd really like to see an agressive fairy that thinks she has reached enlightenment and is not dumb like the others of her kind anymore. She ploclaims herself the queen of fairies and makes all of Gensokyo extremely green, which turns all the fairies really strong. But how she did that? Someone helped her, I guess.

Ok let's start with the story.

Stage 1 — Illegal Means Fun
Plants are all over the Human Village. The most important and vulnerable point of Gensokyo is now full of fairies, so the resolvers go there first. They beat up Sunny, Luna, Star and their new friend Cometa in the same time. It's really essy since the new member breaks the whole quartet, trying to be tough and not caring about teamwork at all. Last spell is only for Cometa, her attacks are powerful but concentrated like an easier Master Spark. Obviously referencing the Hanging Gardens and the Tower of Babel.

Stage 2 — Scarlet Versailles
SDC is under a fairy raid because of their beautiful blooming garden, the fairies are already inside. The resolvers fly above the garden and beat them up, and the boss is a guard fairy (from TH10 level 4), let's call her Bayonetta Fergarde. She seems to be serious and attacks with sharp telegraphed shots from her rifle, sometimes throwing long knives (bayonets). Also there's a little conversation with Patche who's late to the battle, she explains her opinion on the incident and tells the resolvers to go to the Bamboo Forest.
Inspired by the Garden of Versailles.

Stage 3 — Even Less Sunlight
Bamboo Forest of the Lost is almost impassable, it's now a jungle and even non-native plants like lianas and palms are growing here. At the middle of level, Tewi appears for a second, throws a machete at the player and flies away. The boss is Youmu, yes Youmu. Eientei hired her to clear the jungle, but she doesn't see anything and is genuinely scared of the player, attacking 'em blindly. The music and background are kinda Brazilian.

Stage 4 — Burn in Violet
Garden of Sun, but it's in fire. Tons of fairies acting like cultists and flying in a dancing manner while you reach Clownpiece as a midboss and another hell fairy and Piece's friend, Moye. Piece's torch made the fairies follow her, and they decided to burn the flowers and trees down just because. Moye's attacks are fireballs and spears. Last attack belongs to Yuuka standing right behind your enemy, and you gotta dodge the Über Spark while poor fairy's body dissolves in fire. Referencing Hawaii's Aila'Au legend.

Stage 5 — chill pal I ain't that productive!

The Fairy Goddess isn't a fairy though? She's an ancient youkai probably similar to something like a dryad or other powerful nature spirit. Her two fairy servants would most certainly not be "shy" either (I imagine them to be pretty hot-blooded aside from with their lady). And also, the Flower Goddess isn't "shy" or "timid" either. While she's not outright rude and prideful, she's certainly very "assertive" either way. A lot of fairies also serve her as a result of her being ancient and especially with her being deeply connected to nature. She's as well just silent with her words, NOT her actions. Still though, I think some of your concepts are interesting (especially with the idea of a fairy proclaiming herself "Queen of Fairies" and the second stage being inspired by the garden of Versailles, alongside having a Hawaiian-inspired stage), but much of what you suggested breaks much of how I would envision the game and it's story to be (mainly because of what you suggested being a bit too wild and confusing, though is still interesting). I'm primarily searching for suggestions which add on to the already existing concepts for this game (while not breaking what I've already established as the settings in the posts). Regardless, thanks for some of the suggestions and ideas!

PS
I will say another thing in that I made it to where the fairies have become immensely more powerful specifically because of the Flower Goddess being connected to nature and the garden itself as well being connected to nature. So therefore, two powerful things connected to nature + plants which bloom flowers that increase the "density" in the bodies of beings connected to nature (such as fairies) and enhances magic = ridiculously powerful fairies. Besides, it'd be pretty foolish of me to not use utilize fairies in a big way in this game because of how the game's theming is.

I imagine that some time after (I mean, come on, it's been 20 years by now), that Yuuka and Medicine became friends because of that fight. Seems like that's how most in Gensokyo become friends anyway.

I'll just add that I imagine the music of the game to be like that of classical music. Or at least heavily inspired by it. Just fits to me in the idea that because of the game being heavily inspired by gardens as a whole (especially with ancient to 17th to 19th century gardens), it would have classical music inspired tracks.

I'm thinking that one of the bosses (possibly the third or fourth stage boss) of the game would be a former human which was somehow turned into a fairy either by the Flower Goddess, or by her own magic research. Of course, it wouldn't be explained HOW a human was able to become a fairy, only that she did. Though the reason she had decided to become a fairy in the first place was because of her dissatisfaction with the world and because of the gardens not allowing humans into it (as humans would overwise die if exposed to the plants and flowers of the gardens for too long, along with it's inhabitants generally having an "inferior" view of humans) alongside her having a "romanticized" view of fairies which made her want to become one. Of course, how she discovered the gardens in the first place is yet another mystery.
I imagine her to have been born in France sometime in the early 1780s and with her "dissatisfaction" with the world being because of the brutality of the French Revolution (in which her mother and father died) and later Napoleonic Wars.

PS
Oh, and because of her being a human-turned-fairy, unlike Gensokyo's fairies, she's pretty intelligent (I imagine her to have been the one to suggest to the Flower Goddess to invade Gensokyo in the first place). Though within the gardens, most of the fairies living there are actually pretty intelligent.
