How was your high school? Or just school in general, college is ok too

I miss it sometimes but I'm glad I'm out now, especially since I graduated so long ago. The splendors of adult life are both a blessing and a curse.

A lot of teachers and students in my high school were "rats", i.e. nepo-babies. I moved from Washington state to an Upstate New York suburb when I was pretty young, so my family were outsiders. My mother tried to join the PTA but she was essentially bullied out for being what the natives call a "transplant". My older brother was bullied relentlessly since he was already in 10th grade at that point, and lots of teachers and students in the school didn't take kindly to someone who wasn't born and bred in this one town.

A lot of kids in my school got a lot of shit handed to them on silver platters for no other reason besides being natives. Their parents were born and bred, their grandparents too, and their grandparents parents. I was on my high school football team and I can't even count on two hands how many times our lineman were shuffled around to give rats their time in the spotlight, whether they were actually good or not. One of our guards was a kid named Bobby (not real name). He gave about 1/3 effort he should be giving and I saw him get trampled by others constantly, and yet he still was the star and won all the awards. He even had the balls to get cocky about his status. This was for no other reason besides multi-generation nativeness.

Thank god the teachers weren't allowed to sway our grades because of our status. I got it easier only because I was young when we moved, and I graduated with flying colors. As for the others, high school was pretty much the highlight of their lives. I kept tabs on them and about half our football team couldn't finish their first college semester because they weren't used to actually having to work for what they want rather than it just being given to them. Nowadays, they're STILL in this little suburb, slamming drinks at the local pub and whining about how the miss the "good ol' days".

So in other words, I had a very mixed school experience. I made loads of friends that I still talk with to this day, but nonetheless there was a lot of bad vibes to go around. I can only hope that the culture heals someday.

Here's my high school experience. Btw OP, class of '09 looks like a really good vn. I've been meaning to play it but I'm saving all my money and don't want to pirate it so I can't :(

I started my high school years off goody two shoes and got almost straight A's, but then slowly started caring less and less and skipped with friends. To avoid my parents knowing about this I snuck onto their phones and blocked the school district number, and threw letters from school away when I took the mail in. I used to be fat and ugly in middle school, but over the pandemic I stopped eating junk food, jogged, and did alot of pushups and v-ups so I wasn't fat anymore and got a big confidence boost. Looking back though I was still ugly cause I had no fashion sense like every other freshman. I basically played clash royale, met future friends, and browsed the /v/ /k/ and /out/ boards that whole school year.

By Sophomore year I skipped class probably once a day atleast, and started dating a really hot Argentinean girl on the JV softball team (it only lasted a few months and I left her cause she kept talking a bunch to her ex and older dudes, but it was nice). I dated my ex's friend to piss her off, but realized I was being immature and didn't actually like her friend, so I stopped quickly. I would hide in my basement sometimes after pretending to leave the house for school in the morning, and then spent all day at home while my parents were at work. My main friend group were all stoners, but I didn't care about drugs (not for religious reasons I'm an atheist) so I was always the trip sitter. That was always really chill, and there was a freaky but also funny time when I watched them try shrooms for the first time. We also did alot of urban exploring in the nearby city. By this point I was still trying a little in classwork, and had a few C's, but mostly A's and B's from me turning in work over google classroom. There was this funny thing I did when teachers were being assholes; I would "go on strike" by skipping the teacher's class for a week straight, and coming in late when I finally showed up again (it actually worked kind of). I also went full schizo when it came to the internet, and deleted the few social media I had except youtube for privacy, and cause it was all just vanity and streaks. My friends and I also got into these boxing matches with eachother on the tennis court since this one dude I knew brought two pairs of boxing gloves for some reason, but we had to stop once security noticed. One random night I accidentally downloaded an app for memorizing the hiragana, and ever since I have been teaching myself Japanese as a hobby.

Junior year is when I completely stopped caring. I completely started skipping both my math and English classes, and didn't bother doing the work online. The only class I almost never skipped was weight training because I could get gains for free, and hang out with my closest bros. I would take the lightrail and bus to random places and hang around the city and airport instead of going to school. I started dating a sophomore (shortstack alt girl, also Filipina like me) who I was getting along with in my chemistry class last year, and gave me her number when signing my yearbook. After hanging out with her a bit during summer, I decided to get exclusive with her. We were steady and good from the summer and up to like October, but of nowhere she dumped me in the middle of homecoming. I still have no idea why she did that but these things happen, so I just pubstomped on left 4 dead 2 versus when I got home while everyone I knew blew up my messages to ask if I was okay. I think she actually tried getting me back because she would intentionally only hang out with our mutual friends when I was with them as an excuse to talk to me, but I didn't want to be played for a fool. I also finally replaced my old ass iphone, and got a nokia 2780 and a murena fairphone 4 (great phone btw, it's an android based OS but without any google software on it). Some of my friends started getting into heavy drama and bad shit, like fencing smokes and weed to crazy guys you shouldn't associate with, and I basically became the backup to call if they thought they were gonna get jumped. I got into some pretty bad fights during that time, and narrowly avoided getting into legal trouble after breaking some dude's nose (props to my friends for never snitching the mfs went to juvie).

By this point, I was completely done with school. It seemed like a huge waste of time since I knew most of what I was supposed to be taught, and in truth I didn't even want friends as weird as that is. I finally negotiated with my parents to let me drop out and get a GED. I went on vacation to the Philippines with my parents to visit family. While at a resort, I met this really cute Japanese girl my age. She was awful at English, but was really surprised that I could speak (JLPT 4 at best) Japanese. I don't know how I did it, but after hanging out and having dinner together for a few days, I spent the night in her room while her parents were in downtown Cebu, and it might be the highlight of my life up to this point. Skipping to today, I am now working as many hours as I can get, working out and playing Touhou 11 and Victoria 3, and waiting until my birthday to go to the USMC recruiters. Call me stupid, it doesn't really even line up with my philosophy, but it's what I am going to do because I feel it's my duty even though the US has gone to shit. Plus one man in each generation of my family has served since WW1 and my brother is a manchild getting a useless degree so I want to do it in his stead. I have gone no contact with most of my friends out of my own volition, I am only keeping in contact with my best bro from elementary school, and haven't seen him in person for a few months. I don't feel loneliness if anyone wonders, I'm not sure why, but I'm guessing it's an undiagnosed personality disorder or something. I just can't feel it even though on my days off from work I probably say less than 100 words directed outwards, though I do talk to myself when I'm chilling alone. That's about it, I'd be in my senior year now btw.
I didn't expect that to be so long, but I just started typing since I don't really have any reason not to. If anyone read all that, thank you and I'm glad you survived my typing. Have a nice day/night my friends.
Thx for sharing man, I wish you the best

wow, that's crazy, glad to see you made some friends tho. My mom always say: "Don't look up to see people who have it better than you, but look down to see that you have it better than a lot of people", basically it's about gratitude.

Im gonna rant a little so don't mind me...

upcoming postS! relating to this a bit coming soon...

I'm not going to say much

I can't wait until I can leave school and go to Uni (2 years left)

I've been feeling a lot more negative emotions in my life these past few months, the sheer number of ways life can make you feel shitty is unfathomable.

Schoolwork, Normal work and other IRL stuff is starting to mess with me
Good news is

It always gets better eventually

I graduated from college this year. College has good and bad things, and your experience varies a lot depending on your course, institution and country. High school was way worse, honestly.

High school was a hellscape to me. You can't get anything in high school to matter because in my country it's all a race to milk the grades as much as possible so you can have a remote opportunity to enter the college course you want. The evaluation methods are based on memory and repetition rather than understanding and creating, and I always stressed with the little time we have for tests. The memory-based evaluation approach does not accurately evaluate your competence in a certain field, but it seems that it helps "normal" people get higher grades (so much that now the grades of all HS in my country are inflated, making entering college even harder and more inaccurate). All of this is done while you are a teenager full of hormones in a class of many other teenagers full of hormones.

Due to the memory-based evaluation approach, high school can crush some of your interests completely. I like maths, I like algorithms and functions and developing logical solutions, and yet my maths grades dropped to negative in 12th grade!!! Math is all about logic, understanding, solving problems, but in the end of 11th grade and the whole 12th grade, all that mattered was memorizing formulas, memorizing exercises, memorizing specific things we did in class and I despise it.

As for college entry, while applying for a postgrad or masters is mostly curriculum-based (which is great), applying for the bachelor is not, instead it's based on all of your HS grades + national exams (you can imagine why physical education's grades influencing your entry on, let's say, an engineering degree is really stupid).

College itself was a much better experience, but I still felt that I was underwhelming and wasting my time. While you do many more theoretical works, research works and practical projects/exams rather than traditional written tests, you still feel like none of this matters, as you waste 3 hours (normal length of a single class) for something that could be done in maybe 1 hour. If you are self-taught in your special interest area or you like the idea of learning by yourself at home, you will find college very unnecessary, because you are wasting time, money and social energy on what could be done at home. So why do you go to college? Some fields require a more formal and organized education plan so you can be truly skilled at your craft (medicine for example), but not all fields require formal institutions to obtain competence and mastery (computer science, IT, software development, etc, my special interest), so you mostly attend college because you have to, because you need that diploma for opportunities or you need that networking for the internship after you finish your degree (which is not guaranteed, not all courses and institutions provide you an internship opportunity).

My parents told me that college was going to be where I find my true friends, my best friends for life, but as a shy/anxious introvert who is most likely autistic I'll tell you that I only talked to 1 classmate regularly, and our relationship wasn't that close given that we stopped interacting when we graduated. Other people formed friend circles either because they already knew each other or they somehow telepathically communicated with each other and automatically became good friends. Most of my classmates didn't really develop any chemistry with me or an interest in being my friends, because we were too different I guess. Not only that but I developed a handful of enemies. Most of these people were overly political arrogant, condescending people that didn't like my presence or despised me for not having the same political beliefs as them (college is known for its very political environment in fields of art, media, literature, philosophy, etc etc).

I suggest you pursue what you truly like in college, because otherwise you won't have the patience or energy to invest effort into your work and study. It's not worth it to risk studying at a field you don't like and then be sad that this is your job, or not even be able to find a job.

Despite my hardcore interest being computer science and IT, I actually graduated in audiovisual, because I had in mind that for a professional context this field would be more fun, since I also like doing digital art. Not only that but a 16/20 HS average grade wouldn't be enough for me to enter computer engineering due to the HS grade inflation problem, and none of my software projects and skills/knowledge matter for getting into the course because applying for a bachelor isn't curriculum-based!!!!!!!!!! Despite my graduation, I want to work in software development, cybersecurity or system administration, nothing related to audiovisual, but I find it hard to get a job from just sending CVs. In today's world it's very hard to get employed unless you have connections. Networking is all that matters, but a shut-in introvert like me has no networking. I did apply for a cybersecurity postgrad and I believe I have very good odds of entering it, but until then I'll stay a NEET, and if I don't get a job opportunity while studying then I'll take the internship opportunity you get at the end of the postgrad.

study fine for me bc i need that but the student no
why i say the student well since i was elementary i somehow became an easy target firstly i not really sure what even my problem am i ever end up in fight (the worst case) no then why me....well after done there it happens again still strange to me so many year i try to atleast hide my other self, for all those year that gone i've made up few friend but i realized one thing that i can't trust them, why? bc how they treat me like i'm far below them but our age was even close so why bother with that in the end i notice that i can easily count how much friend i have which i mean friend is not like what i explain before since traitor is worse beside someone who show their dislike toward you

High school has been very all over the place, its where I've had my worst times and best times, but I guess that is to be expected considering how much years we have to spend there. But right now I'm just grateful I finally got out this year and now I'm free to make my own choices in life. But anyways here's the rest of the story.

Around the start was the worst since I'm the weird quiet kid at the back and it really didn't do me any favors in a place where you gotta have people to get your back. But later on I did get into a friend group and we simply had that chemistry between all of us, we were doing many school activity and projects together in and outside of school grounds. We also had a friendly competition and were trying to get top of the class (it's kind of big deal in asian schools) and it's the only time in my life I ever cared about that, and seeing my grade went from dogshit to impressive just because I have other people giving me reasons to do better for myself was great. I've heard of the phrase "peaking in high school" but never understood how it could even happen, but now I get it since this is pretty much the peak of my life, I have friends, I'm showing great results, I don't feel lonely and left out, etc.

But then pandemic hits and class was abruptly put to and end. I still vividly remember that night when we last saw each other. 7p.m. class just ended and we would walk together til we reach the place where we all would part ways, we exchange goodbyes and remind each other we'd meetup on the weekends to play League at the internet cafe... But that never happened due the lockdown, in fact we never got to see each other until 3 years later.

The next 2 years of school while there is the pandemic is just shit and boring and im not gonna get into it.

Once the pandemic ended I moved to a different city to go to a different high school and it was strange moving to a place with a vastly different culture, vibes, and lingo from your old one, but everyone was so nice to me and showed me around the school and parts of the city I didn't know about. It felt like I belonged there really, and I didn't expect to make new friends that fast. But reasons reasons and more reasons... I had to go back to my home city to a different high school and be the transfer student and now I really enter the worst parts.

Moving to a place where there are already established friend groups while being the quiet shy one was the worst, like no one payed me any attention at all. The next year was pretty much the same since my classmates were the same people and thus no opportunity to make new friends since no one for some reason wants more people in their established friend groups (like, Jake, can we not be after school buddies? we both like the same animes, Samantha, can we atleast talk about the newest episode of Jujustsu Kaisen?!). I also got assigned as a leader of the research group of a bunch of dudes no one wants and OH MY FUCKING GOD they made my last year of high school hell, they are the most incompetent nincompoops with no reading comprehension skills so I have to write the whole research paper (basically thesis lite edition) by myself from beginning to end and I've had so many sleepless nights cuz of this and I just bombed at every subjects and I couldn't even finish the report of the research so I got the bare minimum grade to pass so all my efforts just went down the shitter. This was my absolute low and I've even considered quitting and just start again next year but I kept telling myself that I have to bite the bullet so I'll be able to get out of this place. And it is all worth it since I managed to graduate this year and I just fucking bolted out of there once the graduation ceremony ended and didn't bother saying goodbye to anyone cuz fuck that place.

After that I applied for a college that only has construction engineering course that is also funded by the city government and is supposedly hard to get into but I managed to pass the entrance exam and interview despite not being a STEM student. But I got ultra sick at that time and couldn't enroll and they ran out of slots. The other place I signed up for was a technical vocational school by a heavy machinery corporation and passed but I never got a call, but considering how much workplace death that has been going on according to someone I know that is in there, yeah I'm rather grateful they didn't contact me.

Now that I got nowhere to go I decided to just fuck it and study computer system servicing at a nearby vocational school so that I can get a job sooner, and I'm currently still here studying. I'll probably get a job around the first quarter of next year if I can find the right recruiters that show up around the end of our course, if I'm lucky I can find one of those dudes that works for agencies that provides workers to foreign businesses and hopefully it's either Japan or Korea since its quite common apparently (my country's whole schtick is to send workers to foreign country and take home their earnings lol).

Life just has it's ups and downs so its best to just sway with the winds. Who knows how my life will be once I enter the work force, it could be fun, it could be not, but as an adult I'm now able to make decisions for myself and do what I think is right for me.

it's pretty nice i guess

the only problem is my classmates cause they're absolute morons.
update!

it's getting worse

i barely have any friends (pretty normal actually)

also there's this guy who keeps stalking me in-between classes (for context i dumped him a year ago because he was really mean to me ;-;) (like bro it's over just let it go, plus you're ugly)

and almost everyone keeps saying the same annoying things over and over again (STFU NOBODY CARES ABOUT THICK OF IT!!!!!!!)

btw i'm actually considering doing it ifkwim

Interesting that expiring to be an expat is the norm over there.

update!

it's getting worse

i barely have any friends (pretty normal actually)

also there's this guy who keeps stalking me in-between classes (for context i dumped him a year ago because he was really mean to me ;-;) (like bro it's over just let it go, plus you're ugly)

and almost everyone keeps saying the same annoying things over and over again (STFU NOBODY CARES ABOUT THICK OF IT!!!!!!!)

btw i'm actually considering doing it ifkwim
Having friends is a game of roulette when you're a weirdo, especially if you weren't born and raised with the same people all your life.

some dudes have a real hard time letting go, especially in their earlier years.

update 2: electric updataloo

this school's a literal mental asylum atp 😭🙏

last week they showed us a diagram measuring violence in relationships
so there was one at the bottom that said "you are in danger if... he forces you to have intercourse with them"
and there's this guy in front of me that said: "women are so weak, if someone forced me to have intercourse with them i'll do it"

i'm not even joking this is actually what he said
oh and that guy hates portuguese people for some reason??? idk

oh and about that stalker... well he's still going, and it's already been a year! hooray!
istg most of the time when i'm going back home he sits behind me and keeps whispering my name...
and when it doesn't work (which is all the time), he PULLS ON MY HAIR.
all of that just to say something like "hey, how are you" or "why are you ignoring me?" with his awfully childish voice...
last year he straight up PULLED OUT my earbuds just to listen to my music (i was listening to the ufo ost ;-; )

sincerely hoping he gets his vector-looking ahh off my face 🥰

The hell? It's been going on a year and you haven't reported it? Pulling on your hair and earbuds is straight up harassment.. If you told him to stop and he hasn't then you've got every right to get that man suspended.
Just to make sure, this is highschool, right?

Unless you're getting a doctorate or masters, college is basically a scam. Everyone and their dog have degrees because generations of Boomers and Gen Xers telling folks they're not getting anywhere without college, and lots of career fields are oversaturated because of it. I suppose it also doesn't help that folks here in America have to face the hellscape that is the modern job market; I've an immediate family member who basically had to beg for a job when they got out of trade school because employers want someone with years of experience in so called "entry-level" positions. They eventually got one, but it has shit pay, no medical benefits, and only three days of paid time of per year.

I'm going into my last year of pharmacy school, and I've honestly got to say that I'm quite fortunate compared to a lot of my peers both in the field and out. I got picked up for a position with the federal government after I graduate that's not too shabby, and they're also paying for all of my tuition to boot (which is great because, despite attending a really small public college, it's akin to $35,000 per year). Many of my peers are selling their souls to Walgreens and CVS to pay off student loans, which I hate to see because a chain retail pharmacy is literally the worst place you can be working.

University is worth it practically anywhere in the world but America, your school system suck ass.

Even having a BSc. means that you are more qualified for certain jobs.

This is totally gonna be long,... if I went with it for that long, idk, just feeling like writing it all out, why not. But ye, feel free to share ur story if u want or u can read wat I have to say.

Currently playing a game named "Class of '09" and I'm almost finished with it. So yeah, I got the inspiration to write this from that game. My tone would probably go in in line with the game cus I've been playing for awhile now. The tone might be nihilistic and negative abit.

Anyways, I'm not gonna waste time anymore, let's get into it. Highschool... mostly sucks ass tbh. 11th grade was probably enjoyable tho, But mostly, it's a shitshow, like is it possible? Highschool is like a small society for all to participate. Literally the bad, the good, the evil, all in one combo. People sucks massive ass too. Not to say like there aren't good people tho, but...I just got this feeling that I shouldn't hang around with some of those people, like just screaming "NO". There are some fun moments but after that it feels like shit cus it's value of being fun only last in that moment, then it expired, does it matter? Whatever. Probably not. I guess those fun moments have values if it actually means smth to u. Are people fake? Is any emotions real?

From almost a pedophile teacher to drugs, what the fuck dude. Also, why are people equally shitty? From the kid tries to be tough and shit (he's kinda of a bully, but I don't really see it that way very much) to the the odd ones out (quiet kids and whatnot, one kid I found out was actually shitty, and might be has something wrong in his head from reading those manhwas or whatever, but I don't really know tho). And my "relationship" with that one girl too, but I'm not going into it (maybe next time). There's also this girl who is pretty and nice... but I feel bad vibes from her tho, we talked, and I know she flirted with me and stuff but like,... who tells another boy that she broke up with her bf and kinda giggles at that, like what? U inviting to date? No way... her relationship with the previous bf is kinda controlling ngl. If I said yes, she'd probably broke me honestly.

But can you blame most of them? Like everywhere I go...people suffer, their parents as well too. Like one guy have their parents not live together and he spends some time with them out far from the city, a guy who lost his mom, a group of kids where I think their parents are rich but don't care about them, abusive family..., a girl that argues with her mom constantly, drinks alot, and walked out the house sometimes, a girl whose father basically don't want to do anything with her and don't go to work but stay home all day and her mom in not mentally ok and the girl's relationship with her mom isn't good....amongst other people. I hope their situation gets better tho. I hope they're happy now .

Why does going to school feel dangerous? I felt that it was kind of fun and stuff but deep down I know it's kind of fucked up. Other schools too. Fuck.

Now to most people I guess they'd feel like it's just a day to day struggle and that's normal and I get that, like it's just how it is. But looking back now,... damn, that's crazy. And this is schools from my country in Asia. I wonder how schools from other countries are like? Maybe all the schools in the world are some way alike to each other.

Maybe you'll have peace if you're by yourself, but I don't think that's entirely true. Why is it hard to trust anyone? Hm... That's why I don't give a shit if someday the friends and new friends I made might one day back stabbed me, or relationships just end bitterly. If things is good, then cool, but if things are bad, well, fuck it, whatever.

Does this also explains the school shootings happening in the west too? Like some people with a messed up head combined with the mad world of going to school results to that? maybe....idk. It's just crazy.

I'm in college now, the first 3 weeks was a blast, the best 3 weeks of my life was spent in a 3 weeks military program (not like the real deal but like 1/10th of that), that's how I see it. It's even better than high school. Not saying I very deeply hate high school with my gut, it does sucks but I enjoy the 3 weeks more. After that tho, everything is just normal, not anything worse or better, kinda better? But mostly normal, and I'd take that.

Why did I even wrote this? I don't think it's really a big deal to think about the high school in the past. Like, does it matter? It shouldn't matter that much, especially the bad stuff. It's not like I'm venting or sad or angry or anything. I guess I'm just looking back and now that I think about it, maybe it's just what it is. So yeah, that's my normal school life, just a normal experience. And now it can fuck off, I don't wanna waste my time thinking much about it.

Oh yeah, lonliness can go fuck itself too, but I don't hate it that much tho...do I? Like it's not that serious to me... Ugh, whatever. Not gonna think about that,

So yeah, that's how I feel about it,

Maybe I'm just lonely.......but only if I let it make me feel that way.
Highschool = Terrible, was literally bullied for being an ugly autistic kid with loads of ache and everyone thought I had school shooter vibes.
Sixth Forum (IDK what the equivalent of this is outside of the UK) = Worse somehow, for a whole laundry list of reasons I don't want to get into.
University = Pretty cool but honestly fuck admin.
