Touhou Mods Thread

I wanted to make this thread to shine some light on Touhou mods that have been made for various games, as well as encourage discussions about Touhou modding in general. To get the ball rolling I decided to talk about the mod that actually got me into Touhou in the first place: the Gensokyo Warfare mod for Mount and Blade: Warband.

Mount and Blade is a small series of games where the player is a medieval/ Renaissance era mercenary gathering an army and fight in battles.
The games are basically open ended sandboxes where you have a lot of freedom in how you choose to play.
You can fight for yourself, become a noble, usurp the throne of a faction and so on.
Warband has a small, but dedicated community of modders that go above and beyond to create new experiences.

The Gensokyo Warfare mod takes place in a war torn Gensokyo where magic has all but faded into memory.
With spell cards becoming increasingly weaker, the denizens have divided into several factions with the characters we know and love functioning as the leaders.
The player can customize their character, determine their race (human, fairy, youkai, etc.) and are left to their own devices.
For those who love RPGs or like to roleplay while playing, there's plenty to experience.

The player is also able to romance some of the characters and can marry them; perfect for the OC x Canon enthusiasts in the crowd.

Overall, it's a stellar mod that I think is worth taking a look at. You can find it in the Warband Steam Workshop.

As a second entry to the thread, I wanted to talk about mods for Slay the Spire.
For those who don't know, Slay the Spire is a deck building rouge-like game where the player picks a character and steadily builds their deck as they win cards in encounters, discover them during dungeon events, or buy them in the shop.
Everything you encounter across the three stages is random, ensuring a unique experience every run.

A lot of Touhou mods have been published on Slay the Spire's Steam Workshop, namely characters that have their own decks.
Said decks have their own unique mechanics that you'll never see in the vanilla decks.
There aren't many characters to choose from, but you have some of the popular ones at least.
I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves card games and rouge-likes in general.
However, I should warn you that some of the mods are broken and prevent the game from booting up due to the issues in their code.

This next post discusses a game that holds a lot of nostalgia, Garry's Mod.
For those who don't know, Garry's Mod, sometimes shortened to gmod, is a conversion mod for Half-Life 2 that's basically a sandbox where the player can do whatever they want. For over twenty years the massive modding community has created maps, player models, NPCs, quality of life mods, weapons for the player, anything you can possibly think of and more.

The Touhou side of the community had been stagnant until the last two years when a pair of modders started creating player models and NPCs of every character. From the pc-98 era to present day Windows, from the popular to the obscure, all the characters are being presented for others to discover and enjoy.
There are also a small number of Touhou maps that represent different areas of Gensokyo such as the Moriya Shrine and the Scarlet Devil Mansion.
There's Touhou player weapons as well; i.e. various bullet patterns as depicted with their corresponding character and more traditional FPS weapons that function like you expect.
Gmod also has a multiplayer mode, so if you have friends that like Touhou or if you want to host a group with others on the forum, then I encourage you to have a good time and discover the possibilities for yourselves.

Bottom line: there's plenty of Touhou mods to discover if you know what you're looking for.
Gmod is only ten dollars on Steam and still being actively updated by the devs.

This post will discuss the mods for I Am Sakuya.
For those who don't know, I Am Sakuya is a Touhou fan game made with the Doom 2 engine.
It's a two episode long FPS that tells the story of how Sakuya came to be in Remilia's service before Touhou 6.
There aren't many mods for the game, most of which make a minor change here or there.
The two best mods add a secret map that can only be accessed via console controls and a secret boss fight.

The secret map is a small area that was based on a similar map for Doom itself; basically a joke map that isn't meant to be taken seriously yet still fun to play.
The secret boss fight mod adds an exit to a waterfall in the second(?) level where the player confronts a Cirno fumo.
The fumo doesn't just hurl attacks like the vanilla bosses do; it actually attacks using bullet patterns.

I Am Sakuya is a fun game for anyone that enjoys old-school run and gun FPS games.
There's even a VR version!

This post will cover mods for the Touhou fan game E.E.R.I.E, a third person shooter similar to The Division and the Ghost Recon games.
The player can play as one of a few characters, each with their own campaign, and are left to their own devices.
Each character is either allied with a faction while the enemy to the other, or are the enemy of both factions.
The real meat of the game is fighting in small skirmishes to earn points that can be spent opening chests that can be found in each zone.
Said chests contain weapons, ammunition, attachments or medical supplies.

There aren't many mods for this game, namely a couple character mods and several maps.
The character mods add Rumia and a giant fluffy cat.
The map mods are small maps swarming with tengu soldiers. They make for perfect survival maps, although you should expect to die faster than anticipated.

E.E.R.I.E is a fun game that you can keep playing beyond the short campaigns.
The tool function in the menu spawn characters and items, giving it a full sandbox experience.

I rediscovered a number of Touhou mods for Resident Evil: Village.
For those who don't know, Resident Evil: Village is the eighth game of a series of survival horror games.
The protagonist is pitted against a cult with an army of lycanthropes in a desperate attempt to save his daughter.
I've never played it, but it's an okay entry in my opinion. For once the player doesn't have to deal with yet another zombie outbreak and faces off against a different threat. Like all survivor horror games, the player has to scavenge for resources and manage them strategically.

The mods I've found change the models of the antagonists into a small number of Touhou characters according to their themes.
Nothing groundbreaking, but enough to give you a little more Touhou in your day.

I think I found out about touhou from that pokemon mod. I didn't play it myself but a pokemon youtuber suddenly started playing it and I started watching.

Interesting. I didn’t realize there were mods for Pokémon. When people think of modding Nintendo games, it's usually Rom hacks for Fire Emblem. I don't often hear about mods for their other games besides Super Smash Bros.

This post will cover the Reimu 2: Lord of Maidens mod.
It's a Diablo 2 mod where the player plays as a denizen of Gensokyo hunting down a crazed Reimu.
Much of the game had been renamed to accommodate the setting and illustrations have been changed to everything Touhou related.
The campaign had been rewritten entirely to fit the Touhou theme.
However, this isn't a conversion mod or an overhaul, so if you were hoping for something fully immersive, this isn't it.

This post will touch on mods for Devil May Cry 5.
For those who don't know, Devil May Cry is a series of hack and slash games where the protagonist(s) battle demonic forces that threaten to destroy everything in their reach.. The fifth game follows a trio of protagonists battling their way through a ruined city to stave off yet another demonic invasion.
The mods I found change the models of the main characters into a variety of Touhou characters.
It looks a little goofy, but it might be the closest thing to seeing a Touhou hack and slash with this kind of depth.

This post will touch on mods for Resident Evil 4 (original and remake).
For those who don't know, Resident Evil is a series of survival horror games.
These mods change the character models into Touhou characters.
I wasn't able to find many mods for either game. Like RE Village, there probably wasn't many to begin with.

This post will shine light on mods for Sifu. For those who don't know, Sifu is an martial arts action game where the player pummels a variety of baddies to fight bosses at the end of each level. The mods change the character models into different Touhou characters.

This post will touch on mods for Touhou Dystopian. For those who don't know, it's a hack and slash rouge like where the player plays one of four characters and attempts to get to the end of the run. The game itself is short, only thirty minutes if you know everything like the back of your hand.
The modding feature is in the beta stage, but there are still a healthy amount to sift through.
As of the writing of this post, all the mods I've seen are costumes that you can have any character wear in the hub world.
Only a few are Touhou related, but there's characters from other franchises such as Project Len'en and RWBY.
If you like action packed rouge likes that you can finish in a short time, I'd highly recommend this game.

these replace model in game x mods are kinda goofy with the mismatched model style to lips not moving. it would be really cool to see a mod that tries to recreate and or incorporates the style of the game it's part of.

Agreed, but that would mean learning to create models from scratch and animating the mouths to work in conjunction with the character animations--something that people seem reluctant to try.
I guess it's easier to use the MMD models since they're open source and easy to implement.
Better to use a well known crutch than bite the bullet and learn how to do it themselves...

I searched Dragon Ball mods to see what popped up. Not a lot as usual, but I did find some character mods for Xenoverse 2.
For once they weren't just MMD models and replicated the art style of the game.

Found some mods for Super Smash Flash 2. For those who don't know, this is a Super Smash fan game made in flash featuring many of the characters we wished were in the official games back in the day. I ran across this a long time ago and forgot about it until now.
The mods for this game consist of character mods that replace characters similar to mods for the official games, as well as map mods.
I'm not sure how active the modding community is, but the game itself seems to still be updated by the devs.

Found a number of Touhou mods for Minecraft that add character skins, weapons, items, structures to build, and even the entirety of Gensokyo as a large map.

I couldn't find much for Terraria, but the mods I did find add spell cards and bosses to the game.
