I downloaded the file and uploaded it to virustotal, and it took me to a different virus total link than the one posted.

i got a problem: upon opening the game, it keeps acting as though i have pressed up and left on my keyboard permanently, and even though i can navigate the menu despite it, when i enter a stage my character immediately goes to the upper left corner with no way to reposition myself

to people who are concerned about installing a virus
according to virus total, this file was detected as virus by 3 anti viruses out of 57
and 2 anti viruses i know that are very reliable didnt detect anything (eset and kaspersky) + the one i use that isnt showed in virus total (so in total 3 anti viruses i trust)
i think these 3 cases of detected virus are false positives, but i recommend to download things outside steam ONLY if you have reliable anti virus (pro tip: never rely on avast or microsoft defender), its better to be safe than sorry

Yesterday i downloaded this and when i started my PC 10 minutes ago it was lagging extremly for a few minutes. I does lag sometimes when i start my PC thanks to my PC being almost 6 years old and thanks to some neighbours literally killing the network here but the files COULD also be the reason.
Also i wanna point out each time i open the game all options i changed (like from fullscreen to windowmode or 3 lives to 5) it doesnt change. I somehow cant change the input aswell. I did play Touhou 6 back in 2014 and i remember that the options were saved
I have to check out the next days if it stays like this or not but for now i also would say its save to play unless others have similar problems like me

Have you tried renaming the japanese file? If yes, try starting the japanese game and then the patcher.

I already fixed it myself, i didnt change the name of the japanese game but i did delete the "thcrap_update.dll" file

Yes i just went away from my pc for a bit then when i tried to open it again it worked idk why
