TOHOTOPIA

They added a beta public test version. It adds replay playback feature, map seeds, changed moriya empire starting unit to tengu cavalry and irrigation projects get 5 gold more expensive each number built and few other stuffs and bug fixes. Although map generation is a bit broken in this build
I do not see a beta branch, only default branch that updated on 20th Jul. I'll get to updating main branch.

Went ahead and threw a couple shekels in to support the devs if there's any way that I'm able to update the thread. Also...

SAIGYOUJI EMPIRE CONFIRMED FOR THE FUTURE! Someone on a Korean Touhou Forum went digging through the game's files and found a bunch of .mp3s that give away the remaining civilizations in the game:
  • Scarlet Empire - Egypt
  • Houraisan Empire - France
  • Moriya Empire - Germany
  • Komeji Empire - India
  • Hakurei Empire - Norway (changed to Viking in update)
  • Hijiri Empire - United Kingdom
  • Toyosatomimi Empire - Persia
  • Nippaku Empire - Byzantine
  • Saigyouji Empire - Sumeria
  • Chirizuka Empire - Incan
  • Hinanawi Empire - Aztec
  • Kijin Empire - Mongolia
  • Watatsuki Empire - Cambodia (Khmer in files)
  • Lapislazuli Empire - Mayan
  • Cirno Empire - Greece
  • Lizunamaru Empire - Mali
Those last two are confirmed to be paid DLC down the line, not sure which of the others will be DLC or playable in the base game. The team's really got their work cut out for them with 16 different teams and 80 heroes to design, but I've got faith in them.
Just for you to know, there's also Kirisame Empire (Arabia) in the game now alongside other unfinished civs.
Pretty sure there ain't many touhou teams left to use at this point...

Well, judging from the song list in the game, there appears to be a lot of stuff planned. And besides, Touhou has a lot of characters, so they'll probably make it work somehow.
Regardless, I'm still really excited for the future of this game.

Given how complicated the Hakurei Empire came out to be and now that they're messing with the older empires to have more complex mechanics, I'm actually concerned this game is going to be a massive victim of scope/power creep. Part of what made Polytopia fun to begin with was the simplicity of its systems, which made it an 'easy to pick up, hard to master' type of experience. Sixteen civilizations with multiple unique mechanics and buildings, including five heroes with a motley of different abilities, is going to be hell to keep up with when everything is said and done. Other things like culture and science points feel like bloated afterthoughts that barely affect gameplay yet add another layer of stuff to keep up with.

Both the Komeiji and Hakurei empire are extremely overpowered in their current state, and I feel that trend is only going to get worse with every civilization added. My best suggestions to the dev team would be to strip back all the useless and needlessly complicated parts of the game and focus on keeping it as simple as possible while still retaining the Touhou charm.

Guess we'll just have to see what direction the devs head in. Let's hope it'll be a good direction.

They're really trying to make every character unique, but hey I hope they will actually listen to the in-game poll results. It's no point in dooming until the fully complete game is released
