Reimu actually killed someone? That's news to me, lowkey sad
The fact that Reimu killed the Fortune Teller (as she claimed it was a "sin" for a human like him to have become a youkai despite him swearing to her that he would leave the village and not return), is in some ways, the sole reason why I don't like her as much as I would otherwise.
I've heard others mention over and over again "Oh, she was justified in doing that to keep the balance in Gensokyo", but it still doesn't sit right with me regardless.
I think FS is a really good manga otherwise, but seeing the characters actually kill the youkai (yes, even Marisa does too a little bit earlier in the manga, though as it was a more "out-of-control-youkai", then I don't think it was as bad as Reimu killing the Fortune Teller), especially with the Fortune Teller, then I didn't ever read any further than that.

Also, to anyone else, please don't just go prattling on about "Reimu being justified in killing him", as, as I already said, I've heard the argument dozens of times, and it'd just go in one ear and out the other.
So, save your breath guys.

Touhou lore is full of mentions of massacres and deaths since the very beginning, how the hell two official depictions of murder are able to scare people so bad?

prolly cuz these were the only that were seen in the series rather than merely mentioned (i think)

It's kinda weird that Reimu only killed the fortune teller and not for example Alice who was formerly a human and now is a youkai tho

As far as I know of, it has to do with humans from the Human Village specifically.
If they're from anywhere else in Gensokyo, then nothing can really happen to them.
And, also as far as I know of, it has to do with the fact that he was researching ways to become a youkai within the village itself.
I don't think FS really explains his exact reasons for him wanting to become a youkai, but I think part of it is implied to be that he was shunned by the other villagers and so decided he was better off amongst the youkai.
But, it's also not like he was seeking revenge against the other humans either. He just wanted to live in peace, and so he sought Reimu because he knew that she helped youkai, but she ended up murdering him instead.

Much of the reason in regards to the story of the Fortune Teller, is that Reimu is shown to be a kind character despite her tough exterior, so the fact that she killed the Fortune Teller in cold blood despite him wanting to simply seek help from her and that he wasn't planning to do anything bad either despite him now being a youkai is what makes it so horrible.

Well, I guess with this, ZUN wanted to show that despite Reimu being a compassionate character, she does have her moments of brutality and periodic devotion to her duties to the extent that she's willing to murder someone without mercy if she considers them to have broken the "rules".

No, it's mostly just ZUN writing characters on a whim. She's "compassionate" but also is willing to kill a guy who turned into Youkai frame one without any investigation, she also houses Youkai and fairies inside of her shrine but she doesn't do the same treatment, also she's an asshole to everyone and did I mention that she's "autistic" because of that one FS panel where she read books for many nights without stopping so that people can soy over how she has ADHD?

Eh. I see it as more than "just" that.

How so? I just feel like characterizing touhou characters is this weird thing where multiple writers do their own thing while also somehow being integrated into the "canon" because ZUN supervised them or something...
It could be like that, but I'm someone who prefers to try to connect the dots between "canonical" works and try to see things from how they might be within the story itself regardless of how "bad" the writing may be (but FDS is an exception).
And besides, with Reimu in particular, it's been established for a long time in Touhou canon that Reimu is almost never shown from her own perspective.
ZUN has stated before with something like, "She may be the protagonist, but how she acts depends on how others perceive her". Maybe you might consider it to be "lazy" writing, but one of the main reasons I find Touhou's characters interesting is because of how complex their personalities can be.
These characters aren't just living in a part of the world cut off from the outside. Even their thoughts and personalities can seem "nonsensical" to those from outside.
Gensokyo is like a dream, and much like a dream, it doesn't always have to make sense to make sense.
