Your linework is one of my favorite details of your drawings. The sharp etched lines pair really well with your choice of coloring.. you've come far in what's almost been a year, and I think you deserve to be proud of that. Your effort shows in every piece.
I hope you to see you redraw some characters you've drawn previously before soon. That'd be pretty sick.

thank you!! there have been many pencils i've burned through faster than i should've because i kept breaking the lead lol. i've always liked the bold thick lines in artstyles, and i wanna do my best to incorporate that into mine.

about that last bit about redrawing characters, i'll let u in on a little secret :)

on july 6, i was planning on doing a redraw keine, to see how much progress i have made

th19 is probably the game that i play the least ngl. its sorta rlly buggy on my laptop and freezes often so i don't care about it that much but the characters from it are pretty cool

I have the same issue with touhou 9 right now and it sucks because it's probably my favorite game.
 
it has now been a year since i started posting my art online. i was pretty nervous about it, but i thought i did a good enough job to where people might like it. i got lots of compliments (more than i expected, lol) and lots of people excited to see where i go, which was a big motivation for me.



there are some points where it feels like im hardly improving, and maybe even downgrading a little, but the thing is, improvement is slow, so u kinda get used to it fast. like, u know when u meet someone u havent seen in a super long time and they look like a completely different person? vs when u have been with them the whole time so them changing overtime wasn't a shock or anything, and then u look back at old pictures and are shocked at how different they looked? thats basically how i feel when i look back at my older art.



about that downgrading bit, i think when drawing u will have your highs and lows, kinda like a sound wave. some highs and lows just last longer or shorter, thats all. if u feel like ur art stinks, just keep drawing and it will get better sooner or later. my art definitely downgraded kinda near the beginning when i started posting, around akyuu and keiki. i wanna redraw some of those characters, cuz they did not get drawn as good as they deserved. ever since then, i've been so far happy with how they turned out, did flunk a few of them though.



i'd say the hardest part when i draw is definitely the start when im just trying to draw the base. i wanna try my best when drawing the poses, but they can get VERY tough, especially when it comes to perspective. i dont really study anatomy to draw specifically, although i do keep some things in mind to at least keep proportions a little bit accurate.



perspective in general is pretty tough for me actually, it took me a while to figure out how to draw a side view, which is actually a lot more simple than i used to think (lol) and sometimes its even easier to draw a side view! its definitely one of my favorite perspectives to draw in. i kinda managed to draw at an above angle, with ranma and hina. hina was an accident, but it turned out good anyway. so i have an idea on how to draw it, but it might not be super noticable. i still have trouble on below angles though. will take a while to figure it out.



i would really like to find pictures of my older style from around 2 years ago. i recovered the hatsune miku one, but there were many more i had. i think my mom has them somewhere, so i'll just have to ask her sometime. i dont think she threw them away, but if i ever find them, i'll post them here. i know a good chunk of who i drew were maya and pearl fey, cuz i memorized their design. but i also remember specifically drawing aya (a lot actually), okuu, doremy, and kaguya. maybe reimu or sanae as well.



also sorry for being sort of inactive recently i went on a trip so i wasn't able to draw anything for a week. i still have lots of ideas and people i would like to draw, so it will be a while before i get stuck.



i personally think we should have more multicolor haired 2hus, because having multiple colors on your head looks very cool and pretty. from what i can recall, keine, byakuren, tokiko, seija, urumi, mike, and enoko had multicolored hair.

okay thats actually more than i thought but i still think we need more 2hu with colorful hair

oh and also i retook the seiran and ringo photo cuz i hated how the lighting looked in the original

i am very happy i made it this far, and i hope i can continue to grow even if it gets challenging. thank u for supporting me and my art over the year ❤

I was wondering where ya went. Hope the trip was fun! I can't wait to see more of your art you put out... also have you thought about maybe trying to get a sketchbook? I see you use lined paper a lot.

yeah it was pretty fun! it was mostly a trip to see family n stuff but i love doing that as i dont see them often. the main reason i use a lot of lined paper was cuz during the school year that was pretty much all i had. i'd use the back of paper assignments if it was blank to color but i didnt wanna waste regular pencil on that. i might find a sketchbook somewhere in the house cuz the drawing pad thingy i had a while ago is kinda big and doesnt really fit into the basket where i keep my drawings super well. (although i may want to use its size to my advantage one day...) i used up the rest of the paper that was in my binder so since then i've just been using the notebook paper from a notebook thats on my desk, and im perfectly fine with that. the lines can even help with drawing sometimes! although i can try and find a sketchbook to maybe do some coloring, since i dont rlly like doing that on lined paper (aside from a couple of things to make it look cool)

When I first saw Aqua I thought, Sakuya + Koishi? So basically you can't influence someone who is already like you, I think.

But when it comes down to it, the kind and benevolent Koishi Komeiji with zero flaws would be a great influence, even if she is acting under instinct. (Maybe???)

I just happened across this thread, and I can sympathize a lot with feeling like I what I just drew is worse than what I've done before. I have some real stinkers in my portfolio where it just didn't come together. The issue that I gave myself is that I got back into drawing a couple years ago with incredibly lofty goals, being most inspired by artists like 久蒼穹, ののこ, and モ誰. I wished that I could create awe-inspiring things like them, and I figured I never would if I didn't start, so I went for it.

I think the issue that I had with my early illustrations is that I didn't look at what other illustrations looked like while I was doing them. I guess I didn't want to "steal" ideas, and I wanted to create things right out of my imagination, but it was impossible because I didn't know how to use the tools I had at my disposal to make things look good without looking at how other people do it, and I'm only just starting to really learn that now.

Keep up the cute drawings. One my regrets is that I was an above-average drawer as a kid, put in some art classes by my mom and stuff, but stopped doing it throughout most of my teenage years, and it felt like I had to restart at square one. If it's what you love to do, keep it up. Your progress in the last year is clear, where I can really see expressiveness, confidence in the lines, and your own style coming through.

Since it's the topic at hand, I'll share my progress in the last year too.

Keep it up, and I'll try to remember to check back here when I can.

when i first started drawing, i REALLY liked the puppet dance performance artstyle. i liked how the linework was sorta bold, how bright and cartoony the characters were, and it was just really cute. i also appreciated how simple the nichijou artstyle was as well. it made me feel like i didn't have to go all out and i could still have a cute drawing. i wanted to try and get an artstyle like puppet dance performance but still have it be kinda like nichijous. i think i have differentiated from them a lot since then, but it's ok, because i'm happy with what it currently is right now.

when i was doing the one chapter 5 weird route drawing, i looked at a whole bunch of illustrations done by other people to try and get an idea on how the shading should look and how people were drawing the hands n stuff (i was having a pretty hard time with that). i felt bad about using other people's art as a reference, but it can be really helpful sometimes

i would draw maya/pearl fey a lot when i was bored in classes around 2 years ago (sometimes others when i could remember their designs) and y'know, i wouldn't say they were terrible, but they were pretty messy, and i didn't even bother drawing hands (they were just nubs) i didn't decided to lock in until i posted that keine art online, and it kinda just went from there. i havent been able to find those old drawings yet, but i will try and keep looking ^^

about the progress you have made, the biggest improvement i see is the rendering. in your old art you seemed to have used more harsh lines for shading, while in the newer one, theres much more soft shading in the rounder parts which i'd say makes it look more realistic. the coloring in the new one is also more vibrant which makes it feel more lively and expressive. as well as improvements in the anatomy and even background drawing. this is a big improvement from last year and now, and you should be proud of that. it looks so good!

"Lots of people are wondering where Genjii has been, or how he is doing. I am here to say that ever since Miss Reimu defeated the God in Makai, Genjii has been living peacefully at the shrine. Miss Reimu learned how to fly around the time of Scarlet Mist Incident occurred, and therefore did not need the support of Genjii. I guess you could say that he retired. Anyway, Genjii is living very well for his age. He gets plenty of food and water, and gets the proper care that an old turtle like him needs. I hangout with him sometimes when I guard for the Hakurei Shrine, and I get to hear many interesting stories from him! Whether its about his adventures with Miss Reimu from many years ago, or experiences before he became a youkai, or even seeing how Gensokyo changed overtime. I wonder if I'll one day get to see just as much and become as wise as him..."
