why do you like touhou?

I found out that i enjoy shmup'ing quite a lot, and playing 2hu is good enough i guess. Kinda a mid saga but its still cool. The music carry the games hard too, so i can atleast forgive the level desing by rocking some FM's or MIDI's.

Mystic Square stage 1 SUCKS BALLS HARD... but the music tho...

I come here because I enjoy the characters' personalities and the amount of Art people made. When I mean by the word Art in uppercase, I'm not strictly referring to visual images. Art is the works of video games, music, drawing, animations, film, writing, and many other fields. Touhou is being influenced by the real-world history and mythologies of Japan, and also abroad. But Touhou also impacts the ideas people are having now. I love Touhou and our community because it nourishes the human desire to make, to create, to story tell.

Hopefully anything I said is comprehendable you. I tend to sometimes type stuff by emotional impulse :3.

I'm not in the Touhou fandom. I like Touhou because girls are praying...

To be serious, I like the ensemble cast and think about many of the characters often.
 
I originally knew Touhou through memes, U.N. Owen was Her, Sr Pelo's animation on EoSD, and soon questioned what more there was to it? As I learned about the "funny bullet hell game," I became fascinated with all of the many things inside the realm! The characters, stories, music, and other elements are uniquely amazing and how they are together makes it all the more astonishing! The characters being based on real life is also nice touch.

Touhou was also my first "Danmaku" game to play, and I like the gameplay. I do appreciate a challenge! I also love the different patterns of each character's spell cards, as they are very artistic and expressive in their own way (even Junko despite straight up trying to kill you XD)
Though, I haven't played other bullet hells besides Touhou and, later on, Undertale, but that will soon change.

I haven't personally interacted with people from the fandom much, but do love the appreciation and support for ZUN and his work. Content from the fans are beautiful in their own way as well!
 
Touhou has been part of my life since I was really really young in many different forms! Silly mobile games, Bad Apple and tons of other amazing songs, it was one of the first things I ever discovered on the internet. At some point I decided to actually try playing one of the games, and from there my love of it grew! The games are fun, the music is amazing, the community is wonderful, the STORY and CHARACTERS!! The worldbuilding is something I've never quite seen in any other form of media, and it's something that no matter how many years go by my love of the series never diminishes.

I don't have a top demetori albums tbh, I enjoy their music for the most part because they're great as bgm.
Though I think their covers of Crimson Belvedere (as I've said multiple times lol) and End of Illusions and Dreams are specially amazing amongst their other tracks.

listen to undead corp. It's death metal demetori so the fucking vocals make me cream
 
There are few things I dislike (which carry their respective weight) but lets focus on the good stuff here!

1) Touhou music is great. The OST's are nice but the fan's arrangements manage to surpass them by a wallop. There's way too many artists, albums, and bands/circles that produce an immense variety of songs that can nearly satisfy all tastes out there. That's something I treasure a lot.
2) The characters and setting are also very neat. Many different designs, personalities, and concepts being thrown around in the same place (which is a Japanese region that nearly stopped in time). My only complain here is that the characters appear too little: I wanted more stories with underrated characters to make them shine more and get people to know them better.
3) Fanarts are also something I still like. So many great artists putting effort into Touhou characters, and some of them manage to make a fun/interesting twist/remark regarding the characters (like, I dunno, Wakasagihime fishing Murasa out of the lake). It doesn't need to be superb, just something new is good to see!

I may have forgotten something (besides being a franchise filled with cute girls plus Rinnosuke), but that's mainly it.

The music is awesome, the characters from 6-11 are peak (although when you have a franchise like Touhou with 1000+ characters most of them end up being mid) and it allows me to do something while I listen to my study tapes.
 
I heard some stuff about Touhou here and there but I didn't really know what it was, I searched it up and then realized I wanted to get into shmups for a while now so I played it and stayed for because I liked the gameplay

I like Touhou because the gameplay is fun and I wanted to get rid of my guilt for listening to Bad Apple so many times but never playing the game series it's from

It's the community history. Utterly fascinating to me. Frustrating that so much of it is in Japanese, haha.

It's surprisingly like Team Fortress 2 for me. What sinks me so deep in that game is not just the extremely solid gameplay, but also the characters and the vast amount of fan generated content and discussion around it. Few games get the amount of fan development that TF2 has had for the more than a decade that it has been going.

Touhou appeals to me in all the same ways. I enjoy the gameplay and feel great when I beat a challenge, and also there are all these characters that shine in the games and also within the community as people take them and use them to explore their own ideas. I just wholly love when a seed of inspiration blooms so totally like with Touhou.

I'm also transfixed when I look back into its history alongside the archaic internet. The idea of indie game discs being distributed at physical events is completely alien to me. And then to learn that this series of indie game discs had a giant set of fans who were distributing their own indie indie discs of music and videos and what-have-you absolutely blows my mind. Really, there is just something amazing about it. Pure creation.

So as a whole it is not just the games, but also the massive community culture and history that has grown around it.

this is one of my reasons for liking touhou too lol. it's such a fundamental part of internet culture, everything eventually connects to it. though I do really, REALLY enjoy the games and the music as well.
