How often do you read books?

it's been a while since i read an ACTUAL novel (not fanfiction or random jumble of text)

but that's because i mostly prefer comics, documentaries, science magazines,...

*sigh* thinking about it, maybe one day i'll read a lot of short novels (i prefer the kinda-long ones) or probably mangas (slice of life eventually ;D)

I used to read a lot of novels and the like when I was younger. I'm now starting to read again. At my job, I've taken to bringing books to work. I've read I think six to seven books. Now I remember. It's six books in full, I read one part of Divine Comedy, got to finish the other two. So I'll say six. Currently, I'm reading North Carolina in Four Centuries. One series I need to continue is Otherland. Lordy, I've been enjoying that series. I've finished the first two books and got two left now. Book one, City of Golden Shadow is soooooooooo slow!!! But man, I'll admit, it sets up so well. River of Blue Fire leads on so well after the setting up of book one. It's been nice to read more books as of late. I've read a lot of manga through the years though. As much fun as it is to read the manga, I don't consider it the same as reading normally.
 
Most of my readings consist of technical documentation either for programming or OS troubleshooting. Not exactly books but it's my closest. I also read manga but at an extremely slow pace. I like to do more proactive activities so I don't focus much on reading compared to the rest I do
 
basically everyday before sleeping, even though sometimes i just can't read a line because of tiredness

A lot of times with other large fandoms I see large video essays dedicated to examining parts of their fandom consistently, yet in touhou fandom in the west, that area seems to be lacking. I don't believe I am entirely qualified to fill that role, and it could always be because we simply lack fans in the west, but as far as I know there are as many as around 100k-200k. I was reading a study on why people struggle to write essays in general, and it stated that one of the bigger reasons is that people read actual books less nowadays. We lack finding things to give us strong opinions, and have difficulty with sentence structure.

This leads back to my question, as I'm curious to see if it holds any water. How many here read books? (not counting manga or comics)

I read plenty of books. Though you are right that 1: Most don't. 2: Most stuff is flat, so it doesn't provoke any particular reaction.
Overall, words are the superior format. But they require a superior mind, which aren't very common. Which is why even most of the "readers" are having someone else read for them like a child (audiobooks).
 
i've been trying to read more recently because i have an ungodly stack of unread books on my shelf starting to pile up (most of which are manga)
 
Whenever I find myself commuting and my phone is dying. One of the hidden pros of public transportation.
 
I read/study a lot personally. Mostly ancient/medieval history books but I also read my fair share of epic poetry. My favourites are Le Morte d'Arthur, Gilgamesh, Heike, Nibelungenlied, Beowulf, Three Kingdoms, Ring Cycle, Lucan's Civil War, Orlando Furioso, etc.

I absolutely love reading. It is one of my most favorite things to do. Especially when I am overstimulated or overwhelmed.. Music helps relieve me from the same situations as well. I read a good mixture of fiction and non-fiction as I am interested in many things! I have different genres on my shelf, which makes me joyful.
I recently started to pick up more young adult fantasy novels as I love the universes that are taken place.

I prefer having a physical copy of a text rather than a digital one. I like having a book in my hand that I can call back to and having one less screen to view. Though this doesn't mean I don't read any media online.
In regards to online media, there is a group that caught my attention called the "LongNowFoundation" that has the goal of fostering critical thinking, but it has been a while since I've visited them.. Would check them out!
I am also reading "PoorlyPlannedComics" on neocities, but haven't returned to it in a minute..

I love obtaining knowledge from them too. Overall I feel better when reading which is very lovely. On and off I may not read for a few days (4-5 max) and I tend to feel horrible when I do so. It is quite interesting how this happens :KoishiSip:

Didn't used to read books often until this year. I've been trying to build that habit of reading more books by replacing watching movies with reading. It's been going pretty well so far :ThumbsUp:

I bought a good bunch of books that interest me and I want to try my best to read them before the end of the year. Let's see if I can do it
 
I literally never read a book up until now, now I'm reading all the Limbus books so I won't be called a larper (already read the Yi Sang books, now I'm on The Stranger)
