While looking at Soulcalibur figures on ebay, the idea that Touhou characters could theoretically travel to the world of the beloved arcade fighting game series struck me as a possibility.
Throughout the Soulcalibur series, we've seen a number of characters featured as a crossover promotion to help sell the games. Most notably we saw Link, Spawn, Darth Vader, Starkiller and Yoda embarking on their own quests in the setting.
I can easily see some of the Touhou cast attempting to wield Soul Calibur and Soul Edge for their own ends, if not try to destroy them.
How would the Touhou cast arrive to the other world?
Well, descriptions of characters from other worlds arriving in the Soulcalibur setting has always been vague.
It's implied that they suddenly appear and that's where the explanation ends.
However, thanks to Lost Word, we know that travel between dimensions is possible through powerful magic and Yukari's gaps.
The latter alone would be reason enough.
Who would attempt to wield Soul Edge?
Shinki, Zanmu, Seiga and Meira.
Who would attempt to wield Soul Calibur?
Byakuren, Eiki and Miko.
Would Soul Calibur and Soul Edge appear in Gensokyo itself?
Given that both swords are conduits of power that are known to corrupt their wielders, they would be regarded as youkai seeking a worthy host.
Not only would an appearance in Gensokyo be likely, but the entities that inhabit the swords could potentially wander the land and cause an incident.
Could Soul Calibur and Soul Edge be destroyed by any of the characters?
Considering the nature of the swords, Reimu and Sanae could destroy them through purification or exorcism.
Any character with similar abilities or religious ties could theoretically do the same.
