  1. Let's face it, they all are! Definitely not enough Reactions to go around. (^_~)
  2. Oh cripes! I will keep doing that, mixing up all the various versions of her in my head. Fairchild is the one from Alan Moore's Lost Girls. To make matters worse, I don't think it's ever outright stated in the Disney version, but it definitely is in Through The Looking Glass by way of a poem. (=^_^=) Even more embarrassing for me is that one of my favourite Japanese artists, Mizumo Nakamura, is an absolute Alice in Wonderland fanatic and he always calls all the sisters by their original family name in his writeups of them. (#^_^#)
  3. Wasn't Remilia's link to Vlad Tepes revealed to be a complete lie though!? (^_~) In any case, my two cents would undoubtedly include Alice as well, since she is not only much smarter than Marisa, she also happens to based on Alice Fairchild from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, who herself was learning to speak French from her older sister Lorena before she went and disappeared down the rabbit hole and all the malarkey that followed afterwards. (^_^)
  4. Eulogous is definitely on the right track, you know, simply because there are so many different genres of fangames. Indeed, I often joke to my best mate that for every game, there's undoubtedly a Touhou version of it, and just by virtue of that alone, it will be 100% better than the original was. (#^_^#)
  5. I did say in the Chatbox last night that Tenshi does score fairly high in the polls though... certainly higher than my favourite, Suika. Therefore, I don't think people hate her as much as you believe, Sir I, and nowhere near the level of say, Joon. (^_^;) As for her motivations - and I'm sure CVN will agree on this - she behaves pretty much the way the Greek Gods used to behave, in that they played mankind for their sport. When you have so much power that the people beneath you are literally insects by comparison, why wouldn't you be a brat. (^u^)
  6. Wow! You actually cited one of my choices Ken, and not only that, my favourite of the three as well: I'm honoured! It's ironic, you know, since the night I spotted you talking about it on the Chatbox, I wasn't going to bother posting first of all. Like I stated right back at the beginning, on account of the ME/CFS, I didn't feel particularly good. However, the three tracks I picked popped into my head and I thought, what the hell. (^_^) Speaking of which, in case it wasn't blatant enough already from how game orientated they all were, these were my choices:- 1) ARA - Area 4 (Capital City of Flowers in the Sky) 2) Composer for The Mystery of Gensokyo - Nostalgic Blood of the East ~ Old World 3) Yukari - Palace of the Earth Spirits It's been a fun tournament in any event, and it's certainly given me a lot more insight into different varieties of music associated with Touhou Project. Thank you again everybody for taking part and making it all possible. (^_~)
  7. Okay, I suppose this is sort of relevant to the discussion - I noticed it yesterday evening in Google Images when I was looking up 'CoLA' after Tenkko mentioned it in the Like/Hate thread).
  8. I've only just noticed this thread, and I wasn't aware a character sorter existed either, so I'll just cut & paste my list for now:- 01) Suika Ibuki 02) Marisa Kirisame 03) Youmu Konpaku 04) Patchouli Knowledge 05) Kisume 06) Yoshika Miyako 07) Nitori Kawashiro 08) Yuuka Kazami 09) Futo Mononobe 10) Mima Fair to say that if it hadn't have been for Wandering Souls, I probably still wouldn't have any serious interest in Touhou Project, much beyond the random artwork I was seeing appear on various image boards. There certainly wouldn't be around a 2.5 million yen collection of almost 500 figurines, plushes, books, CDs, bags, clear files, badges, keychains, posters, tapestries, and other assorted items, that's for sure. (^_~)
  9. Definitely support the Meiling Appreciation Fan Club that seems to be gathering steam in this thread (I know my mate Chris would be totally onboard with it, so I get two tries okay), but Sakuya... can't say I ever went through a phase with her myself, Tenkko. Granted, her Stage 5 theme is awesome; easily the best tune in EoSD in my humble opinion. However, right from the get go, I took an instant dislike to her in Wandering Souls, not least because she appeared to have that big sister of the group vibe going on. I suppose it didn't help much that she was way underpowered compared to Reimu & Marisa either, something even Estheone admitted when I eventually pointed it out to him. (=^_^=) (It says わくわく / waku-waku on that Meiling GIF by the way, indicating she's trembling with excitement.)
  10. Didn't we already have a couple of threads about this already? I recall the character hate one especially, because I said Komachi first of all, though my opinion of her has changed considerably from the time I originally played Wandering Souls and rage quitted over that damn annoying boat move of hers. Amusingly as well, despite both her & Aya not being among my favourites, both their theme tunes are - go figure. (^_^;)
  11. Heh, don't worry about it... I only realised recently myself that ドクペ / Dokupe is just a typical Japanese abbreviation for ドクターペッパー / Dr Pepper. It's also apparently a fake brand in the 神様のメモ帳 / Kami-sama no Memo-chou (God's Memo Pad, although the Americans as usual changed God to Heaven to avoid upsetting the Christians with Japanese heathen nonsense, as they see it anyway) light novel series. (^_^)
  12. Funny story: my brother & I once bought one of those Super Malt drinks back when we were still teenagers, and god was it bad. I don't either of us could finish it, so yeah, I guess that would be our choice. (>_<)
  13. Er, no! She's clearly based on Alice Fairchild from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. She'd be far more likely to have a Cockney accent, albeit a lot posher, and I wouldn't put it past some fans to give her one of those either. (^p^) Indeed, for extra amusement in regard to voices, take a look at this pretty short skit by CTM:-
  14. Not sure if serious (you did see what is written on Suika's oversize can, I take it?).
  15. Heh, that's because I reuploaded and added it in again. Does seem odd though, that being the only attachment I've ever uploaded which decided to vanish into the ether for no particular reason?!
  16. Yeah, it's Dokupe without a doubt, although I can't for the life of me remember how or why I started drinking it. (^_^;)
  17. My little Shanghai Doll pic upped and vanished this morning from my signature, as well as my attachments in general. It certainly wasn't falling afoul of any of the filesize limits/dimensions, so was there a reason for this exactly?
  18. That was in a very short period though, under three years, say, and I've probably put an equal measure of hours into Dungeon Master as well. Oh, and unless you're a super fan with a lot of time, money, effort and above all, space, maintaining and running old machines is way too much hassle. Just download WinUAE and play the games you want in emulation instead. (^_^) As for Metroidvanias: I was very tempted to play Ender Lilies recently upon seeing a thumbnail of it on StoneofTriumph's channel that initially had me thinking it was a Lily White game (don't laugh, the way she glows in all that desolation did make it appear to be her until you took a closer look). In any case, although the incredibly cutesy character definitely appeals to my sensibilities, the gameplay does not. Constant backtracking is not my idea of fun and it quickly got on my nerves in Dracula X. The fact you can't actually die in the game is kind of off-putting for me as well since there are no real consequence to failure other than a loss of time. (-_-) Wound up watching his playthrough in the end and giving The Vagrant a try instead, which turned out to be a much faster, more strategically orientated game with a lot less pointless bloody backtracking overall. Finished it on the hardest level of difficulty with no restarts whatsoever, which even impressed the original programmers when I told them I'd finally done it as it isn't one of the official achievements. (=^_^=)
  19. Final round for me as well then:- 22) Hey, my brother & I used to wind up with sound like this back when our computers/consoles/arcade PCBs weren't working properly, yet now it's a genre of music apparently. Seriously though, parts of it are nice, but it's way too harsh on my poor old ears overall, and I come from the days of the C64 and tunes like W.A.R. by Rob Hubbard. (*_*) 6/10 23) This one is certainly emotionally uplifting, isn't it, even to one such as me, who isn't much of a Yukari fan at all. Pity my spoken Japanese still isn't at a good enough level to follow the words of the song in real time. Little more I can say about it here, other than it definitely being another track to watch out for on the Ghostly Field Club CD I have on the way. (#^_^#) 7.5/10 24) Hmm, a Flandre ballad, eh? Not big on the guitar as you all know, but I actually like this one. It's far less abrasive than the original, which wasn't actually the very first Touhou tune I ever heard, believe it or not. Nah, that would be "Eiyashou ~ Eastern Night", down to the fact it also happened to be the title music for Wandering Souls. (^_~) 9/10
  20. Ah, I believe I already mentioned this in the Videogame Difficulty thread: Captive by Tony Crowther on the Amiga, although I did play the Atari ST version first. It was basically his homage to FTL's Dungeon Master, a game that really requires no introduction whatsoever to anybody my age. Heh, it's no exaggeration either to say that I've sunk more playtime into Captive than any other game I have ever played, undoubtedly more than 10,000 hours at this point. (#^_^#) For anyone that's interested, I did a fairly fast runthrough of the first mission a few years back for my channel:-
  21. That one is pretty amusing, I must admit, as is the one with Orin & Okuu arguing over marriage proposal. (^p^) As an aside, I've actually got an M1 clear file stuck up with poster strips on one of my kitchen cupboards of Remilia, Flandre & Cirno. I did intend to add more of them, but me being me, I kind of got sidetracked. (^_^;)
  22. I'd go along with what Tenkko says, especially with the kind of games that top my list. Take Dungeon Master & Captive on the Amiga for example, by far my two favourite games of all time: being dungeon crawlers, you can go at your own pace, pretty much, making either game as hard or easy as you wish it to be. I used to be a terrible level grinder back in the day, but nowadays, I prefer to rush in where angels fear to tread and all that, and make them more of a challenge in the process by deliberately starving myself of vital party resources. (^_^) Don't entirely agree with buskerdog on difficulty levels either way, as they can provide a load of replay value. I mean, as long as I knew Hard & Lunatic difficulty still existed in Wandering Souls, I couldn't put it down, and it was same with Touhou Hack and Slash, in that it wasn't done until the Cirno Farm had finally been thoroughly cleared out on Extra difficulty. (=^_^=) Oh, and I would add that accessibility is a good thing, but not at the expense of stability. Nothing turns me off a game quicker than one that keeps glitching or crashing for no bloody reason. There's no damn excuse for it since all the games I've mentioned thus far rarely if ever went over. In fact, during my manic year-long playthrough of Captive, where I was playing it 12-16 hours a day, it never crashed once. (^_~)
  23. In a word, "commercialisation". Gaming has sadly become the same as every other form of art nowadays, in that it has largely devolved to mediocrity in order to appeal to as many 'normies' as possible and thus, make as much money as possible. If you've read anything by Aldous Huxley, you'll know why this ultimately a very bad thing at the end of the day. (-_-) Me personally, I'm old enough to remember when the coin-ops were made deliberately difficult so that 90% of players would be off the machine in minutes. This trend continued well into the 8-bit console/computer era, but had largely been abandoned by the time the 16-bit consoles came along. Indeed, both me and my brother noticed the massive disparity between say, games on the Amiga versus games on the Mega Drive, with the latter costing absolutely insane amounts of money to buy, yet the sort of thing we would complete on our first go. (*_*) At any rate, there's nothing wrong with a game being easy, although as a lifelong gamer (I've been into this stuff for something like 45 years now), I do prefer a challenge myself. Difficulty levels would seem to be the answer to this issue, but so few companies bother with that now, which is shame. (T_T)
  24. I think you deserve respect for that choice alone since, outside of her banging theme tune, she's never been that popular, has she? (^_~) ETA: Yay! I just reached 100 posts at last. (#^_^#)
  25. Hmm, Marisa's finally getting a spinoff game of her own, is she? No doubt I'll catch a playthrough of it on MegamanOmega's channel like I always do. It'll have to be something particularly special for me to consider getting it myself, however. (^_~)
