  1. 19. Diao Ye Zong - The Second Performance: Curse Deity Well I love this circle so I'm tempted to just give an 11 and be done with it. I really like that approach of storytelling they have with their music. This song itself in particular might not be one of my favorites but I love the combo of sounding kinda innocent for a bit and then bringing in some dark chord in there. And it does have a great rhythm to it, very jumpy you could say. Like a frog. Yeah. Ah what the hell, 10/10 20. C-CLAYS - The moon which was swallowed to a wolf Suika jumpscare. Gonna agree with Drunken here in that the energy is pretty much consistent all throughout, and so there's a lack of punch. I know it's not something noteworthy anymore but idk, the mixing of traditional instruments with synth sounds still gets to me a bit. It's good background noise, 7/10 21. UNDEAD CORPORATION - Kushinada-hime Dude got got by the previous Suika jumpscare. Undead Corp is a circle I don't listen to a lot, despite me usually being on the side of metal. Maybe that needs to change. That said this song in particular don't really do much for me, to the point where I don't really know what to say about it. It's nice, it flows well, it does what it needs to do and then it ends, and that's fine. 7/10 Sorry for the delay again, busy with stuff that I shouldn't plug in this thread.
  2. Sorry again, been busy with mine projects. Anyways double time. 13. EastNewSound - Cardiac Sound Haven't heard this circle in a while. I don't really know what to make of this, it's fine? Doesn't really go many places which, I'm going to assume is just a quirk of the genre, but it's not something I particularly appreciate. As everyone else has said, it sure is an arrangement. 6/10 14. MA.S ATTACK - Akutagawa Ryuunosuke's Kappa Oh god 10 minutes what do you mean 10 minutes. I already gave my thoughts on ambient on the previous piece by this circle, but while that song had a mood I really enjoyed along some stuff on it to keep interesting, if a bit repetitive, there's... not much going on here. Again though, probably a quirk of the genre that's not really resonating with me. 5/10 15. Noah - The Capital City of Flowers in the Sky Alright, not the genre I was expecting for this song. This is a bit more my realm, what do you mean I'm biased. Starts out really strong and then switches to the acoustic guitar for a softer sound, and I really really love the mix of acoustic and electric guitar in songs. Big fan of the build up of instruments in the background as it nears the end, though I feel that guitar solo came a bit too early. It's good! It's energetic! It's fun! 8/10 16. Yoshida Mirai Project - とこしえの黄泉 -- Pola Oh this is weird, I like it. Kinda of an odd song pick for an arrangement but it works really well here. That messy distorted sound in the background along with the chanting, before the melody comes in with that soft synth. It's really good. Obviously not something you'd particularly listen to a lot, but it's a very good experience nonetheless. 7/10 17. Shinra-Bansho - Song of Companion I feel Shinra-Bansho has the same quirk as Akatsuki in which the songs they publicize a lot are kinda bland and samey, but you can actually find some interesting stuff if you dig into their library. Idk, I personally love the original theme here and this arrangement does great at keeping that folksy vibe and enhancing it. Them flutes, man. 8/10 18. GET IN THE RING - ⑨melodies GET IN THE RING really does not settle on any genre, does it. I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but I've definitely never heard something like this from them so, goes to show how much I know. Anyways, very pretty arrange and not what I was expecting when I saw the title. I have a bit of a hard time recognizing the originals in here but that's not really a problem. There's nothing particularly interesting about it but, it was a good listen nonetheless. 6/10
  3. Forgot to post this one here whoops. Checking out some of the games from the Touhou Fan Game Jam 10 that happened recently, it was a really fun one!
  4. 10. C-CLAYS - Rest in Dark Night I'm with Ken here in that I always forget about Oriental Dark Flight. Well maybe not that I forget about it, just that it's definitely the Marisa theme I like the least. But this is a fun arrangement nonetheless, I like how it moves from the very strong beat into something more melodic. It kinda reminds me of something from Plants vs. Zombies for some reason lol, it has a similar vibe. I like it! 8/10 11. Virus Key - 氷精たちの踊り Oh more classical stuff. I don't really know enough to say anything meaningful about it, other than it was nice and it surprisingly fits Cirno's character very well. Waltzes are nice. Still not something I'd really seek out. 6/10 12. O-Life Japan - Dawn Sky of the Myouren Temple A somewhat calm arrangement mostly based off that one part of Byakuren's theme huh. It feels like it tries to paint a picture, like I can see this going along a scene of the Myouren peeps going about their day, or morning as the title suggests. I like all the different directions it goes to, really makes it feel like a journey. Again not something particularly replayable, and a tad too upbeat for my taste (re: major key), but still I enjoyed it from beginning to end. 7/10
  5. been buuuuuusy and i forgor sorry 7. Tsubaki - Artemis Wept Ohhhh... screamo. It's something that I definitely need to be in the mood for, but I generally like it. Also really liked the intro building up to it, and the bells ringing throughout most of the songs are lovely. There's a nice contrast between the harsher, raw parts and the more melodic ones, it's really nice. Why is it so compressed though? It brings down the impact of it so much. 6/10 8. Lycoris - Hammersmith in the Sky Found this one by chance a while ago. Greenwich in the Sky is a song I really really like, and most arrangements I heard manage to capture the energy of the original and build upon it. Including this one of course, I love it. The phased guitars, the solos, that organ god that organ mmMm. It's a style that fits really well with the song. Dad rock 10/10 9. MA's ATTACK - Hartmann's Youkai Girl "Sounds like something from a videogame", I was gonna say but I guess that's the point. Not VGM specifically but, I mean, ambient. Pretty interesting stuff, I kinda dig it tbh, though definitely not something you'd put on your playlist. I think if you remove that humming synth in the background you actually got a pretty chill beat in there. There's someone behind me 7/10 I'll be on time for this round for sure
  6. wooaoaaoao really late for this one 4. Silver Forest - Keep the Faith OH that Silver Forest, never listened to their other stuff. It's nice, I actually really like that style of mixing vocals, but aside from that there's not much going on really, just a faithful arrange of the original no pun intended. And you know? Sometimes that's good enough. 7/10 5. IRON ATTACK! - Sturm und Drang Is it trying to emulate Rhapsody of Fire? Because if so that's actually really fucking good, down to the vocals. I think IRON ATTACK does that a lot iirc, I need to listen to more of their stuff some day. Anyways I'm a sucker for power metal so, 9/10 6. Akatsuki Records - Gray Zone stacks on stacks on stacks on stacks on stacks on stacks... I'm still not over my akatsuki burnout but I actually really like this style. I honestly think Stack shines more in slower arrangements like this, though I really really wish there was some more space for the music. Those in-between parts where she just keeps going mm, don't like that. 6/10
  7. As a fellow Argentine I... should be more interested in soccer. The world cup was nice though That aside I played this game more times than anyone should and it really is that great. Coincidentally, I'm also working on a video on it as sort of a world cup promise so, that will be up soon tm.
  8. Happy almost new year. New Demetori just dropped
  9. When you're so mad you write a 40+ page doc about it. Sorry that I got nothing to add to this, it's all the same song and dance. Been there, seen that, done that.
  10. Made a video compiling a bunch of things that could be helpful for those struggling with the games. I'm not a lunatic player or anything but I've been at it for a while so I thought I'd share what I learned over the years. I probably missed a lot of stuff so, do add anything else you know that could be good to keep in mind for the games.
  11. Alright here we go 1. KISIDA KYODAN & THE AKEBOSI ROCKETS - Beautiful Diver Kishida is I think one of the first music groups I found, completely by accident. Still love them, really big fan of the tone they go for with the drums and guitars, and ofc ichigo's vocals are so damn good. I think they really shine in more laid back songs like this. Also A never before seen world of nightmares is a favorite of mine so this was an easy pick. ONSEN PROJECT has an acoustic version of this, also sung by ichigo (sneaks in a 4th entry) Anyways, 9/10 2. Boga - The Doll Maker of Bucuresti (EoSD Arrange) Oh shit Boga. Always loved the EoSD/DiPP style with the detuned instruments, I wish ZUN had done more of it. But this dude really nails that style so I guess it's as close as we'll get. Though there's really not much more to this one than what the original already brings, and it doesn't help that The Doll Maker of Bucuresti always gets overshadowed by Alice's actual theme for me I'm sorry. 7/10 3. TATAMI STUGIWO - Dance of the Poisoned Candy mmhm, interesting combo. I saw the name and the "christmas" in the title and expected it to be just Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and then Medicine's theme kicks in and I'm like "oh shit here we go". It's neat, I don't know what else to say about it. Mixing in the melodies of Yuuka and Komachi's theme in there is interesting, reminded me I need to go re-read PoFV stuff at some point. Had to turn down the volume for that last part, I don't know if it's Youtube compression or if it's actually compressed to shit but, ow. 7/10
  12. I hold that MS always was and still is the piracy site, denying that isn't doing any good. Doesn't really matter that it has a forum where that isn't discussed, which isn't even true anymore because this thread is dedicated to discussing it. I feel I mentioned this in some other thread but whenever I heard of this place elsewhere it was often spoken of in hush tones, "the moriya site", "google touhou download, first result". I still feel the general approach to piracy is way off target and very uhh, "first world-centric" if we wanna use big words, that's always been my big issue with it. I remember seeing a video of some guy flaunting their physical copies of the games, c'mon. But again I think most people don't have a problem with it, it's just generally seen as a dick move to publicly advocate for piracy of indie stuff so no one's gonna go out and say it, or even allow it in some places like reddit. That goes doubly for fan content which obviously gets much less revenue. There have been efforts to bridge the gap a little bit with translators working together with circles but, it's still a very, very long way from making everything truly accessible, and chances are it never will (not to mention they only do english translations. and only of the works they or their community are interested in). I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment I described above by the way, piracy has always been that ugly thing no one wants to talk about. Even for me, if someone asks me where to get the Touhou games I'll first tell them to buy them if they can. That's not really the problem, I understand that look and wanting to keep things clean, which is probably why this site may have that negative image. Now pushing so hard against it when you've probably gone and read fan translations of doujins so many times, because yes that also counts? Yeah that's shitty.
  13. Oh I have no qualms about covering a bullet hell game, in fact I wanted to make a video on the ido fangames at some point (check them out if you can, they're pretty solid) Working on a bit of a big project right now (I'll make a separate thread for that when it's done), but I might make a quick vid to look at this. Thanks for the suggestion!
  14. I have a video about Udongein X (shameless plug) They'd probably be pretty amazed, I wonder if Sanae would know about Megaman? Also yeah best not let the kappas get near him.
  15. I think everyone would be like "wow cool robot" He and Ruukoto could be good friends
  16. Ohhh shid he's finally doing it the madman. Definitely will be joining in again, last time was fun.
  17. I'm also glad ZUN is finally taking some chances to experiment with the formula and honestly, so far it's worked really well. I remember talking somewhere that the card system from UM was the most fun I've ever had with a Touhou game for a long time, so making a spinoff that builds on that mechanic was such a perfect idea in my eyes. Though I still, wouldn't wanna see it become a mainstay of the series... Wasn't the story handled the same way in the last two shooter spinoffs though? Haven't played ISC in a while but I'm p sure it did that, even if it's less of a story and more of a.. "situation".
  18. Kubinashi Recollection! Had this one for months, I don't know why it took me so long to actually play it. But thank god I did because I think it's become one of my favorite fangames.
  19. A fangame starring the number one girl of peaches. Tempest of the Heavens and Earth by circle Lion Heart, one that I always have fun revisiting once in a while. Even though I forget how it works every time.
  20. So this fangame I was playing for a video has a whole bunch of achievements to get, and getting enough of them seems to unlock some extra stuff to browse. I only got two pieces of concept art, but I was wondering if anyone who played this game enough knows what the rest are (or some alternative way to see them) because... these are some very demanding achievements. Couldn't find anything about them anywhere, either no one ever unlocked them or no one bothered to post them.
  21. New video up! This time on Touhou Luna Nights, that metroidvania that surprisingly got very popular. Or maybe it's not that surprising? I had a couple setbacks with this one, aside from the fact that it's a tad longer than my previous ones.
  22. Thanks for the nice words everyone, I really appreciate it! Oh yeah absolutely, I felt that while editing the Udongein X vid in particular but I had a bunch of it done at that pace already and didn't wanna suddenly change it. Even while recording I was struggling a lot so slowing down is definitely a thing to do. But yeah it's like you said, still figuring out what I'm going for and hey, language gets better with time right. You're not gonna believe me but yes I... I forgor Oh, thanks for the offer! I think I can handle it for now I mean, it hasn't even been a week since I started this. But I'll definitely keep you in mind if anything comes up.
  23. Hey long time no see been a while since I've been active around these parts. Don't know if that's gonna change anytime soon, might be here for the next remix tournament whenever that happens. But anyways, last week I finally set out to start making videos about Touhou fangames I've played. Still figuring out and experimenting with the style, but I got two of them up as of now: Yoiyami Dancers and Udongein X, so please check them out if that's something you're interested in!
