  1. Gensou Tansaku Nitroid!

    Release Information
    Type: Puzzle-Solving Platforming
    Developer: ですのや☆
    Publisher: ですのや☆
    Release: Reitasai 8, May 8, 2011
    Language: English-Patched
    Character Information
    Playable Characters: 1
    (Nitori)
    Default Controls
Changeable to anything you want (including controller buttons) in the Options menu. * Note that I don't designate the Use Tool button as being an "attack" button, despite that being its equivalent functionality in this game - Nitori is generally incapable of killing enemies, usually because she has to use them as stepping stones.
    Z: Use Tool / Confirm
    X: Jump / Cancel
    C: Dash (requires DaShoes)
    V: Tool Menu
    B: Quick Tool Switch (Back)
    N: Quick Tool Switch (Forward)
Spacebar: Open Pause Menu (Comes with map and option to reload last save)
    Extras
    Resources
    * Wanna know what you'll be getting? TouhouWiki has a complete Tool List so you'll know what you get and how to use it.
    * Stuck? TouhouWiki also has a full walkthrough just in case, for those who are ready to admit they can't figure out a puzzle. Description
Plot Point: Utsuho has been spotted away from her post in the nuclear reactor.  This worries everyone's favorite engineer, who takes it upon herself to check up on the bird-brained girl.

How It Works: Is it or is it not about time someone made a game starring Nitori where your solutions lie in expert gadget usage to solve puzzles?  That's exactly what this is, and if you hated the boring feel and isometric perspective of Maristice, exactly what you've been pining for - Nitori starts with 5 Life and some weapon energy (which recharges itself), and finds both expansions for these and a whole lot of Tools that give her an increasing amount of ability - not only do you get a way to stun enemies (the Stinky Ball), but you also get useful tools from a Drill and some Bombs for getting through pesky destructible blocks, to her famous Extending Arm for grappling, to seemingly game-breaking tools like the Wall-Walk Shoes (they do exactly what you think) and the Water Jet (which also does exactly what you think).  Even the boss fights are mostly puzzle-based, solutions lying in forcing bosses to fall into their own traps or otherwise damage themselves (only the world 4 & 5 bosses are actual damage-them-to-death fights).

Please Note: Though you do get a ton of helpful tools, and there're save points and signs with hints or other info all over the place, remember that although the game has a light atmosphere and starts easy enough to get you accustomed, it actually quickly becomes difficult, none of the tools are optional and multi-room puzzles are commonplace even early on.  The endgame is constructed ingeniously to make you use every tool you own in order to earn the last one and get to the final boss.

World 5 is a Bonus: If you collect 15 UFOs for Nue, she'll unlock World 5, which is a lengthy, self-contained challenge world - upon entering, you lose all your tools and must re-collect them within that world as part of the challenge (although if you choose to leave World 5 and go somewhere else, you'll get your tools back until you return), and will face Kaizo Mario-level challenge as you're forced to push your tool usage ingenuity to the maximum!

    F12: Shutdown Game   Description
uuni Jumon stars a crew of entirely original characters, made by puremrz. Although the game stars no actual Touhou characters, it is designed like one, spellcards and everything. It features an unlockable extra stage, nightmare stage (Phantasm), spell practice and Trump Cards (an equivalent to Last Words).
The game is about Masahiro (our protagonist) and his journey on a summer holiday with the other characters. Although there is no real danger, there is still an adventure to be had, especially when things start to go wrong!

Official Information and Release Thread on Maidens of the Kaleidoscope here

    How it Works:
Masahiro has five shot types to choose from, one for each of the basic chinese elements Ignis Ofuda (Fire) - A straightforward shot whose options can be held in place while focused. Metallum Disc (Metal) - A three prong laser that aims forward when focusing. Ligni Sprout (Wood) - Four curved streams of pointed logs that curve harsher when focused. Terra Boulder (Earth) - Focused streams that change angle as you move, which lock angle upon focusing. Aqua Marble (Water) - A spread shot that changes to a forward fire shot when focusing.
Masahiro can change between shot types at any time in game at the cost of 4 power by tapping C. Once the bar at the bottom fills up, the shot type will change (if the same shot type is selected, no power will be lost).

Keep in mind that the doll can climb one block up, and there are enemies to watch out for. And take care not to squish the doll. It's sad. ;w;

  4. Touhou Mutsuigeki - Concealed the Conclusion

    Release Information
    Type: Vertical Bullet Hell Shooter
    Developer: danmaq
    Publisher: danmaq
    Release: Comiket 71, December 31, 2006
    Language: English-Patched
    Default Controls
    Arrow Keys: Movement
    Z: Fire / Select
    X: Bomb
    ?: Fire Hakurei Orb
    Shift: Focus Movement
    Esc: Pause
    Ctrl: Skip Dialogue
    Home: Take Screenshot
    R: Return to Title
    F12: Shutdown Game Description
Plot Point: Everyone's favorite Ordinary Magician, Marisa Kirisame, decides to head to the Hakurei Shrine to pester Reimu. But when she arrives, everything is quiet and the shrine is locked down. Sensing an incident in the air, Marisa takes to the sky. 4 different scenarios await her as she fights to uncover those responsible for the incident and heads to an epic battle that will decide the fate of Gensokyo. The story is a well done and thought provoking masterpiece that challenges what we think and feel about the mythical land.
How It Works: Concealed the Conclusion is a 2D vertical shooting game. It plays much like Imperishable Night. Marisa is the only playable character but has four different shot types to choose from. Some fans would be pleased to know that Love Sign, Penetration Type is featured with everyone's favorite rainbow colored beam of destruction, Master Spark. Each shot type also determines which scenario is chosen. Just like the Official Touhou Games, there are six stages to fight through. An extremely important note concerns the player's hitbox. In this game, it is a lot smaller than the Official games. But, the hitboxes of almost everything else(bullets, knives, falling cats, lasers, Klondike bars) are bigger to balance it out.
Hakurei Orbs: This is one of the most important items in the game. Just like the time orbs in Imperishable Night, they are awarded for different tasks. Capturing Spell Cards, grazing bullets and destroying bullets all award these orbs. Last Spells also make an appearance, if enough orbs have been collected. But, the most important purpose of the Hakurei Orbs is that they decide how much time a player gets to fight the final boss.
((Thanks to Dratini Farmer for writing this!))   Hakurei Items
Hakurei items collected to increase spell card bonuses, gain extra points at the end of each stage, unlock Last Spells, and extend the time limit for the Stage 6 boss fight. They are gained by capturing Spell Cards, destroying bullets with the Hakurei orbs, and grazing. Unfocused grazing yields 1 Hakurei item, but when the Hakurei gauge is full, any grazing will give three. Bombing reduces the player's Hakurei by 3%, while dying will reduce it by 9%, or 18% if the Hakurei gauge was full.

The Hakurei Gauge appears around Marisa's sprite and will fill as you take ungrazed actions such as shooting or grazing. When the gauge is full, you can fire Hakurei orbs to turn bullets into Hakurei items. The first press releases the orb, while the second detonates it. Missing will result in an almost complete drain of the gauge. Launching the orb costs 1% of your gauge. Bombing puts a 20% penalty on the gauge. Dying, death-bombing, or failing a Last Spell will cause it to reset and disable it for 6 seconds after the invincibility period, rendering you unable to collect Hakurei items.

  5. MariAri

    Release Information
    Type: Mouse-Controlled Puzzle
    Developer: Desunoya (ですのや)
    Publisher: Desunoya (ですのや)
    Release: 2007
    Version: 1.11b
    Language: English-Patched
    Description
Plot Point: It was a day like any other, Alice was in her home, reading, when Marisa came over. Marisa wants Alice's help doing something, so they head off. However, they hadn't gotten very far before a yandere (in-game description) Patchouli had cursed Alice because she wanted to ruin their date! Now Marisa's hat can't be taken off of Alice's head (Alice was wearing Marisa's hat because it was sunny outside)!

How it Works: Marisa & Alice is a puzzle game based off of "Mario & Wario". You use Shanghai to break blocks, hold Alice still, & to turn Alice around to help solve puzzles that will lead a blind Alice to Marisa, while simultaneously picking up gold stars (generally 3 per stage) that are used to unlock the boss stages.

Extra Note: "Lesson Mode" isn't actually a lesson or tutorial or anything like that. It's actually (as I believe) a harder challenge mode.

Later updates have added Futo and her Zen powers to the roster. The game runs on the Touhou Danmakufu ph3 engine. The main gameplay mechanic involves a gauge that the player fills up by collecting items. Once full, holding down the bomb key will 'unlock' the player's full strength with a powered-up mode for a short period of time.

    NOTES:
--This game is murderous on your processor. You may want to go into config and toggle the effect cuts. The higher the number, the less effects. Note that the game is not fully optimized.

  9. Touhou Koumakyo - The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil 3D

    Release Information
    Type: 3D Danmaku
    Developer: Unknown
    Publisher: Unknown
    Release: January 9, 2012
    Version Number: 1.00f
    Language: Japanese
    Default Controls
    Z Slow character
    X Bomb
    C Skip Text
    Space Pause (Characters autofire)
    Description
Plot Point: The exact same as the original game.
How it Works: Once you pick your character and shot type, you'll be taken to the first stage(again, just like the original). Your character will move forward  and fire on their own, so instead of moving forward and backward, you will move up and down. Just like in the original, easy mode has five stages while the rest of the difficulties have six.

The game was released on January 9, 2012 and comes with more significant features. The developer has adjusted the difficulties and bullet barrages. Now the bosses will be much more difficult to overcome and sometimes need more bomb than ever before. No more continues in EX Mode, additional BGM's and text for each stages. The biggest upgrade is visual effects where full 3D shaded has been applied and replacing cell shaded. Player can also switch between 3rd or 1st person view. For maximum effects the game also has FSAA option, but this will require high end graphic cards.

  10. Master Burner Climax

    Release Information
    Game Type: 3D Rail Shooter
    Developer: Shooting Area, Aquaelie, Hexaflange
    Publisher: Shooting Area, Aquaelie, Hexaflange
    Release: Comiket 79, December 31, 2010
    Language: Japanese with English Menu
    Default Controls
    W: Up
    A: Left
    S: Down
    D: Right
    Arrow Up: Accelerate
    Arrow Down: Brake
    Arrow Left: Machine Gun
    Arrow Right: Missile Launcher
    Accel+Brake+Missile: CX Mode
    Description
Plot Point: I have no idea. The game is in Japanese and I couldn't find any translations or english patches. As far as I can tell, Nitori has tricked out Marisa's broom. Giving it an engine and weapons. Marisa uses this to go out and beat people up. How it works: If you've ever played the game "After Burner" or its sequel "After Burner Climax" then you know what you're getting into here. If you're like me and haven't played either of the "After Burner games" but have at least played EoSD 3D or seen something like it, you'll still be fine. I HIGHLY recommend you use a controller to play this if you can. The default keyboard controls have you use the W, A, S, and D keys to move around and the arrow keys to shoot, accelerate and brake (See default controls for more). Weapons: Marisa's weapons are a machine gun and a missile launcher. The machine gun ammo is infinite, but there is an ammo system for the missile launcher. However, it does constantly replenish. The missile launcher also comes with a lock on feature and does more damage than the machine gun. Use this against the bosses.
Life Gauge and Acceleration Bar: Instead of using lives, Marisa comes with a life gauge that, when depleted, causes a game over. Like her missile ammunition, this also constantly replenishes, but at a slower rate. The acceleration bar is underneath the life gauge. It starts at zero because instead of being depleted it shows you how fast you're going and stabilizes a bit before max. While you will be tempted to zoom through the stage as fast as possible(and heck yes it's fun), it's not a good idea to do it constantly as there will be bullets coming at you from all directions. There is also a CX Bar, but I don't know what it does as it won't activate for me.

  12. Shin Gyakuten Touhou - Aya Shameimaru: Ace Attorney

    Release Information
    Type: Visual Novel
    Developer: すいかやさん
    Publisher: すいかやさん
    Release: Comiket 77, on December 30, 2009
    Language: English-Patched
    Description
Shin Gyakuten Touhou, literally translated as True Turnabout in the Eastern, is a visual novel legal thriller adventure developed by すいかやさん featuring the cast of Touhou Project. The player assumes the role of Aya Shameimaru as a defense attorney to prove their clients not guilty using investigation, evidence, and cross-examination. Courtroom sessions are generally made up of testimonies consisting of statements by witnesses and Aya may cross-examine the witness to locate a contradiction by showing a piece of evidence. Shin Gyakuten Touhou is the completion of the original game (Comiket 74, 2008) with three primary cases and an extra trial where Aya faces overwhelming evidence as an unpopular celestial Tenshi is accused of stealing.

How it Works: If you've ever played the Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney series then you'll be right at home here. If not, then know that it is a Text-based game. Text, as in, a lot of the game is reading, so yeah. This is the basic order of events; Crime is commited. Girl is arrested. Girl gets Aya to help prove that they're innocent. Aya goes around collecting evidence, and talking to witnesses. You go to court and listen to witness testimony. You try and use evidence to prove that they're lying/made a mistake. Rinse & Repeat, hope that truth prevails.

  13. Touhou Pocket Wars

    Release Information
    Type: RPG
    Developer: Fancy Frontier 13
    Publisher: Fancy Frontier 13
    Release: 2009
    Language: English-Patched
Gacha Figurines: 45 Reimu, Marisa, Sakuya, Aya, Sanae, Mima, Iku, Tenshi, Suika, Komachi, Sanae, Kanako, Suwako, Nitori, Hina, Yuugi, Rin, Utsuho, Satori, Koishi, Yuka, Sikieiki, Remilia, Flandre, Patchouli, Meiling, Keine, Mokou, Eirin, Kaguya, Reisen, Youmu, Yuyuko, Yukari, Alice, Ran, Chen, Ichirin, Minamitsu, Shinki, Byakuren, Shou, Nazrin, Kogasa, Nue.   Extras Touhou Pocket Wars Evo CharaGraph Set (MIA for now)
Like the artwork in TPWE, and have "Labyrinth of Touhou"? Take the CharaGraph avatar set for it! Description
Evo Plus?:  Evo is the sequel to the original Touhou Pocket Wars; this Plus version allows you to acquire figurines of the UFO characters after clearing the main game.

Plot Point:  You are an otaku who in their spare time collects Gacha figurines.  These have attributes and can be entered into matches with others who also own some figurines.  One day, it seems your love for the Gensokyo girls enables you to end up visiting Gensokyo, using your Gachas to help them figure out some problems.

How It Works:  This is a point-and-click game.  You work a part-time job in this visual novel-ish game in order to make money to pay for your figurines (you don't actually perform the job like in "Fable;" you just click "Part-Time Work" and you make money).  This allows you to go buy your figurines and some spell cards for them; new character sets become available later in the game.  You can also enter into matches in order to earn Love (experience) which you use to level up your Gachas.  Your case initially holds only 8 figurines, but you can buy 8-slot extensions.  If you want certain figurines and/or to level up your spell cards to level 10, you'll be spending a LOT of money on the machines, hoping they randomly give you something you want, tossing all the stuff you don't want.

Other Notes:  If you're winning appropriate-rank matches, you'll get enough Love to level up each of the Gachas involved around 18-21 times per match.  This seems fast because the level cap is 500, which you'll need to reach by the time you meet the final boss.

Extra Notes:  Once you do get to Gensokyo, you'll be able to start interacting with the girls; this enables you to reform your Gachas if you win special matches (your Gacha will restart from Level 1, but with better stats than last time around).  This is mandatory if you want to clear some of the after-game bonus content.  In other words, the main game is easy enough to beat by assuring your main case or two of Gachas is level 500, but clearing the bonus content requires as much grinding as Labyrinth of Touhou's bonuses.

  14. EoSD for the Busy Person & Extra

    Release Information
    Type: Visual Novel
    Developer: カスガソフト
    Publisher: カスガソフト
    Release: Reitaisai 6, 2009
    Version: English 1.0
    Language: English-Patched
AKA Isogashii Hito no Tame no Koumakyou
    Description

How it Works:This game is a visual novel, so their isn't actually much gameplay. You read text/listen to the voices, and choose one out of two options every now and then. One choice will always give you a "Bad Ending" while the other let's you continue on in the story (besides when you select Reimu or Marisa).
Extra Notes: To Save anywhere in the game, hold the "Shift" key, and press any of "F1-F12". To Load these files just press the "F1-F12" without holding Shift.   EoSD for the Busy Extra
Plot Point: Like the first game, but with noticeably more Flandre. That is all. It's a completely different game, by the way. Not an expansion or whatever.
Extra Notes: You can still save and load in the same manner as the first game. You can enable "Fast Voices" by entering in the Konami Code when you first start up the game, during the Kasugasoft logo. If you do it right you'll hear a tone.(Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A)

How it Works: Like the previous title, EVO+, this is a point and click game where you use money to buy gachas and spellcards for them to do battle with. New gachas and spellcards become available as the days progress. Some notable changes from EVO+ include the removal of the UFO system and the part-time job. Money is made purely through battle, and alternate costumes are bought in Kourindou instead of randomly received from a matching game. Instead of location based events, the story of 2nd progresses by exploring the areas on a story grid. Once a grid has been completed, the next one becomes available. After each battle, a gacha receives love points. These can be used either to level up your gacha up to 500, whereupon the gacha can be reformed. Reformation requires a level 500 gacha and beating that character's love rival down to zero points, then defeating a powerful version of that character in a Reform Battle. Reformed gachas start back at level 1, but with increased base stats. This can be done as many times as desired. 1,000,000 love points can be converted into "Wife Points". 3 wife points can be spent to make a character your wife, which gives them 50% bonuses to reforms and access to Wife Combination. Wife Combination, which costs 1 wife point, allows the spellcards of a secondary wife to be randomly integrated into the deck of a host wife. This can be done with different wives as many times as desired.

Extra Content: By meeting certain achievements, Ace Points can be gained and spent to increase the stats of characters that have been used over 100 times. In addition, the relationship with girls can be increased by giving gifts, and the amount of points to the relationship a certain gift will bring varies between characters. This will allow your gachas to wear certain alternate costumes. Finally, there is the King's Game, a series of 3 increasingly challenging battles against a character that forces them to progressively remove their clothing, unlocking alternate costumes for their corresponding gacha.

  16. Flandre's Quest

    Release Information
    Type: Visual Novel
    Developer: Rednal
    Publisher: Rednal
    Release: 2010
    Language: English
    Description
Plot Point: Flandre decides, one day, to go and visit her friends at the Hakurei Shrine. She arrives only to be told that Marisa's birthday is swiftly approaching. And so, Flandre must decide what to get her friend for her birthday...

How it Works: It's a standard VN (Visual Novel). Well, actually it's not super standard, as it's length is not the greatest.... In fact, to be quite honest, it's really short. Like really, you've been warned. it's a heartwarming story though, so why not play through it. I haven't said it yet, but there (if I'm remembering correctly) aren't any choices to be made. And if there are, they don't change anything. So you just click and progress the story.

  21. Youyou Kengeki Musou 1.20

    Release Information
    Type: 3D Action Platformer
    Developer: あんかけスパ
    Publisher: あんかけスパ
    Release: Comiket 81, December 30, 2011
    Version: 1.20
    Language: English
    Default Controls
     Z: Confirm / Slash
     X: Cancel / Jump
     ?: Special Attack
     A: Switch Specials
S:  Sky Sword View: 6 Roots of Perception
    Description
Plot Point: One day at Hakugyokuro, Yuyuko is once again attempting to dodge her sword training, claiming that "Youmu's instructions are getting us nowhere." Youmu responded with "Well then, what must I do to make it worthwhile?" Then, Yuyuko gave Youmu the task of defeating Reimu, claiming that if Youmu is capable of such a task, Yuyuko might pay attention to her sword training. It seems as though Yuyuko is just finding another way to dodge her training, but Youmu seems to be taking it seriously. Can Youmu really go against the odds and defeat the Hakurei Shrine Maiden?

How It Works: You play as Youmu, you run around stages, and slash the crap out of anything that gets in your way as you progress on your quest to find and defeat Reimu. You start off with 3 SP of which to use your 3 special attacks with; these can be increased by finding and destroying 3 yellow pots in each stage to obtain 3 parts of a new SP orb. Note that SP regenerates rather quickly.

Scattered about the levels you will find different colored pots: Green pots contain items that restore your health; either by 50 or 150. Blue pots only serve to boost your combo count. Yellow pots, as stated above, contain a Soul Piece; collect 3 to get an extra soul point for using your specials.

Youmu also has a spellcard, which can be used when the gauge below your healthbar is full. Activate it, hit someone with it, and watch everything die. Note that if you use Sky Sword View: 6 Roots of Perception and don't hit anyone initially, the bar will not reset to 0; instead it will reset to 1 strike on any enemy = able to use.

Youmu will also get extensions to her combo. I know not what affects this; all I know is that it seems to happen more quickly the more you use her spellcard. Use that damn thing every opportunity, and don't worry about not having it for the boss: the bar fills up instantly when entering the boss room!

  24. DynaMarisa 3D

    Release Information
    Type: Platforming/Action/3rd Person shooter
    Developer: Tasogare Frontier
    Publisher: Tasogare Frontier
    Release: Comic 1☆5, on May 1, 2011
    Language: English/Japanese
    Default Controls
    Move&Aim: W,A,S,D, Mouse Aims
    Jump: Shift
Dodge: Space Bar (move forward after "Dodge" and you will run)
Scope Zoom: Mouse Wheel (only on guns that have it)
This game supports 3D stereoscopic graphics that can be activated by pressing Alt + Enter to switch into fullscreen.
    Description
Plot Point: Marisa has been caught in Patchouli's library yet again, and this time her response was of epic proportions: having evidently learned from the game "MegaMari" that merely turning the library into a castle isn't enough, she's decided to go all-out to eliminate our beloved book-borrower from her library once and for all - she's hired tons of high-tech help and enchanted the place so Marisa can't use her spell cards!  This forces Marisa to respond in kind by taking up arms and hiring her own small troop of fairy helpers.  With guns that have abilities linked to her friends, it's time to stop Pachouli's madness and make a safer future for books!
How It Works: Its a 3rd-person shooter, meaning you'll be looking at Marisa's back as well as the hordes of enemies that dare to stand against her, you are also given a small group of fairies to help you early on. The Mission objectives aren't disclosed, but range from "survive" to "kill all enemies."  The controls are like a Computer FPS; the A/S/D/W keys moves Marisa around, and you aim with the mouse.
Extra Notes: Put item acquisition on the top of your priority list: you need all the help you can get later on.   Hat: Little Marisa hats are dropped by killing the enemies around you.  These each permanently increase your Max HP by 1 point.     Gold Mushrooms: Gold Mushrooms are healing items (Who would have guessed that? I mean seriously, you only play as Marisa).     Blue Boxes: This is Important! Boxes contain new weapons, which you can use starting in the next stage.  Remember, the harder the Stage settings are, the better your weapons are, and Marisa likes very powerful weapons !  ^.^

    Description
Plot Point: A cybernetics laboratory had finished building the ultimate machine: the nuclear-capable gynoid known as SANA. Mysteriously, a terrorist organization kidnaps SANA and implants her AI with a virus, twisting her mind with a desire to destroy the planet. With the rest of the world unable to act, the special operations miko known as the 'Dichromatic Butterfly' is contracted to counteract this incident. With the reclusive 'NEETori' supporting her via. radio transmissions, Reimu sets off to infiltrate the terrorist organization, discover their goals, and recover or shutdown SANA.
How it Works: Metal Gear/Splinter Cell Touhou. You make use of an array of bullets, grenades, and items to make your way through stages full of traps, guards, and security devices to fulfill certain objectives, whether it be to destroy a target or secure intel, before finally making your way back to the escape point.
From the Story menu, Nitori will give you a description of each mission. Once you select a mission, you can choose which bullet type and grenade type you will use for the mission. You can also select an alternate costume, but this is purely cosmetic. You can unlock more of them after meeting certain conditions.
Your ammo is limited, so make good use of it. You can occasionally find ammo items on the stage. You also have access to WAVE goggles, which allows you to see security devices' field of view, laser wires, etc. until the goggles need to recharge. When you obtain an item such as the suppressor, you need to go into the menu and equip it in the gadgets sub-menu. Once you get a perfect and speedy clear of the whole game, you can start missions with these items equipped.
The security devices will become more complex as the game goes on, some needing key cards and such to open. The guards will also become more complex, some being immune to melee and most shots, etc.The guards will react on-sight, and also to sounds such as your shots and running footsteps. Melee itself is silent. When they are put into a state of alert, their field of vision also expands. Also of note is that Reimu is a technical pacifist, so you cannot use live munitions on the guards.
