Touhou LostWord

Recommended Posts

Heyheyhey anyone who knows about this one and could share their opinion of it with me?

It reminds me of this fangame with in-game gacha system which I can't recall the name but as an app.

It says is a derivative work but officialy licensed hmm. And it seems it was released recently (at least internationally).

I like to have one or two casual games to play during breaks so I'm considering giving it a try if it's fun enough and the gacha isn't life-sucking.

It starts out as a visual novel (which I think is a really lazy thing to do) and I stopped playing after it was over. The next scene wouldn't even load on my phone. Within the first VN section, I was hit with "fanservice" right away, and I knew where their priorities were.

The portraits don't even change or move! They just wobble around. This is why I don't like visual novels. They're lazy and take zero effort to make. Just make a comic or manga or something! At least if you're focusing on the story, you're not being lazy about it.

Give me something like Final Fantasy or Persona! If it's an RPG, then it sure doesn't seem like it. Establish something, start with an odd statement, introduce the villain! I do like slow starts, but only if it has something interesting in it. It's not bad, just generic.

The opening is fine for the most part, and the tutorial is serviceable, but if this turns into a Gatcha game, I'm out. I don't do gambling.

Maybe I should play that Touhou Final Fantasy game I have on my hard drive.

Thank you for sharing.

To be honest turning Touhou into a cashcow with a gacha when all these years it has been relying on the work of fans including really well-made fangames which have been circulating for free or for such a cheap price (like the main games) feels like a turn-off.

Oh well. I guess it's time to go back to suffering in EOSD hell and maybe grab some rpg fangames here to compensate.

Even if it's a VN and gacha, I don't really care and i'll play it anyway. It's something that you wont need the characters and you don't compete with others. The game is just personal growth. It's a really casual game where you don't have to do anything if you don't want to, or you can spend a ton of time on it. If you don't want to play the game, you don't have to either. Because there is no other friend system, you wont really as bad as you would with a typical gacha game if you don't get what you want, nor feel the need to compete with others.

Howdy! Stay puffie! ^-^

You know, I actually downloaded and played it for a few weeks. the thing is that not getting the characters i wanted started bothering me a little too much for my own comfort, so i uninstalled it.

I do have some previous experience with gacha, but for some reason this happened to me with this specific one.

The gameplay gets boring fast, the odds for getting characters are pretty bad, the last few days I played were only a boring grind for gacha tokens. But the art is pretty, and the idea of having a team of your favorite characters together is something very appealing to me... but its a gacha. its not really a game more like a gambling casino. with  touhou coating. maybe thats why i reacted differently to this one.

Yeah... i was wondering if i did the right thing uninstalling it. it seems i did. im gonna go check out that touhou pokemon game. looks fun. in a non gacha way.

Lost Word, in my opinion, isn't a very good game, but it's story is pretty cool. If anything, I'd wait until more of the story gets released internationally before playing it. It's not the type of game where you have to dump money into it to be able to play through the main story (The three guaranteed characters are more than enough to clear the normal difficulty), so it's not like you'll have to whale at any point to actually play it.

I'm holding out hope that the player character gets turned into an actual character at some point completely because of their journal that automatically records their memories.

I played it again. The story was SO BORING that I never even got to play the FIRST LEVEL before I uninstalled it.

The story involves lootboxes appearing in gensokyo, and it's the players job to gamble their money away until they're broke.
I'm kidding, but not about the lootbox part. That is a major part of the story, at least from what I can tell.

I mean, come on! Touhou stories were kinda bad to begin with, BUT AT LEAST THEY'RE NOT BORING!

Don't play this game. Ever. How could Zun allow this? I know he lets fans monetize their works, but like this!? No. This game should be banned. It's tainted Touhou's image, and it's tainted everyone who's played it.

If you want a Touhou RPG, play that Final Fantasy crossover. At least it's not so boring that I uninstalled it before even playing the first level.

Greetings,

Personally, I think gacha games are quite easy to enjoy if you're playing them casually. However, it's important to remember that all games like this are "life-sucking" to a certain degree; they're supposed to hook you in, and since the chances of getting a desirable character are so low, you'll either be spending money or dedicating yourself way too much just to reach your goal. That's the nature of the genre. They're free because you're the product, or even worse, somebody the developers can exploit for cash using this kind of gacha system.

That being said, I've played such games before, and I've never gotten devoted to them, so they've been pretty fun. I don't know about Touhou LostWord in particular, but I doubt it's far from what I've described, so if anyone just wants to kill a bit of time, feel free to give it a try. I'd also recommend trying the Skullgirls mobile port; it's still gacha, however it's very appealing and polished in comparison to the majority of the games in the genre.

Well, take all of this with a grain of salt; I haven't played on my phone in more than a year, so maybe things have changed, although I honestly doubt it. I think the mobile game market as a whole is wasted potential, so it'd be nice if the state of it would change. I see that a good amount of the people in this thread aren't very satisfied with Touhou LostWord, so does anyone have another game to recommend?

Best regards,

von Kurtos

A game I can recommend is that Final Fantasy/Touhou crossover game. I haven't gotten past Cirno yet, but it has everything an RPG should have. Stakes, characters with personalities, a fun battle system, I just wish it had random battles on the overworld.

Like I said, I'm only at the beginning portion of the game, but hey! Gilgamesh makes an appearance later on, and that ALONE makes it better than Touhou Lost Patience.
