Avoid God Modding:

Spoiler
Quote

There are three main forms of godmodding that branch into smaller forms that while aren't technically godmodding, are still frustrating for others to deal with. These three are:

  • Omnipotence: when you're character is super powerful and no one can beat him or her. This is fairly easy to explain. Unless you are the host of the RP this character is in, there is NO reason for this. Fight fairly. Your life will not change or be made better by claiming to everyone "I've won every RP fight I've ever been in!" The people in real life won't care, and you'll just have aggravated all the people you've fought. Don't do it. Just because your character has this really cool ability elsewhere and beats everyone in your canon, does not mean it should be used in other peoples' worlds. If you're unsure if you should use an ability, don't be scared to PM the host of the RP and see if they can work it into the story. Hosts should be as accommodating as possible. But if it won't work or they just don't want, then be polite and don't use it. Your character may be powerful, but other people are there too. Be courteous.
  • Omnipresence: where your character seems to be everywhere at once. While it may not seem like it, time is relevant in an RP. For me personally, if something doesn't make sense chronologically, then something went wrong. Transitioning from doing one thing to something completely different should at least take one extra post.

  • Omniscience: when you're character knows everything about anything even though they were never actually told how it worked. Just because it was explained in a different post and you personally know that's how it works, does not mean your character who was never actually there knows how it works. Other forms of this are determining that something works even though the RP host never actually said or thought this. If the host didn't specify then do not assume it is like that. If you think something should work, then ask the host.

If you find that something fits into any of these three things, then it's improper etiquette. When RPing here, please make sure your characters' actions do not fall in those categories. Unless of course you're hosting. If you're hosting, you have a little more leeway to do whatever you want. You just have to make sure that others know it's an exception for the purpose of the RP so that they understand they can't do it as well.
