Playable Characters: 4
(Reimu, Marisa, Mima, Yuuka)

Description
While our girls are still recovering after the arrival of the youkai, demons from the realm of Makai now begin trying to invade. Once again, Reimu decides to cut off the invasion at the source. Each for their own reasons, Marisa, Mima, and Yuuka also decide it's in their best interests to investigate.

Unique Gameplay Mechanics

Soundtrack Inclusion
* Being the last PC-98 era game, this title includes all of the tracks from the previous games. All of them, even the unused ones.
Dream Bonus 2.0
* Mystic Square includes the Dream mechanic as well, but it functions quite different this time around. The gauge above the Power meter is your Dream gauge, and it can be filled up in many ways, such as collecting a Point item at its maximum value, or grabbing a Dream item, which brings it to Max immediately. It will also gradually increase on its own if enemies are onscreen during a stage portion. Bombing, dying or letting point items fall (only when it isn't full) will decrease the gauge. The higher your Dream is, the lower the Point of Maximum Value will be at.
* Reaching Max Dream will erase all bullets, and will make all point items be worth a lot more, anywhere on the screen.

Does anyone notice that in Stage 3 of Mystic Square part of the music is Alice's theme from Touhou 7?

Maybe it's because the stage 3 boss IS Alice Magatroid. Yeah the same Alice that we fight later in Touhou 7.

I'd reccomend using T98 , so far , I've haven't got a problem with it ,  the only one I can think of is that it  lags ( rarely)  and ( I think) you can't change it to full screen.

I'll tell you how to use it , however ,  multiple videos could probably  do it better then me. First , download it ( You should be able to do it right?)  Once you've extracted it ( or used WinRaR which I use) . You should scroll down  until you find   a file called ` T98 english`  double click it. You should be  able to find a  image   with black and blue or white and has the word next in it and next , next to it. Ignore the first next    Now ,  make sure you've downloaded  a PC-98  game. Now ,  once you've got your PC-98 game , click the tab  next to the  red box under  the  1  under  HD DRIVE . Okay , then  find your  2hu pc-98 era game.  Once you've got it. You see the buttons on the left? Click the one on the top. Alright , you're ready to go!

Anyway , I think this will work. Here are the download links for the emulator.

Edit: This is for the lads who don't know how to use WinRaR.

Click the link I've put in this message. Press X or press ` Open when done `.

Look up  and you should find a button called ` extract to ` click it and choose where you want the   emulator to be . Alright , that's all

I used to play an unpatched Japanese version of this game, and just downloaded this version today. I encountered a glitch (well, 2 glitches) that never happened on the unpatched copy. Has anyone else had this happen? (bottom part of the screen glitching/showing random text, and/or random deaths)

Video link. Random death is at 5:49, glitchy-ness and text lasts up til the credits. I sadly didn't record when the glitch first started; it took up the entire bottom half of the screen with pixels and garbled text, and also slowed the game to a crawl for a minute (I'm on TurboMode).

Not sure about the random death, however the glitchy text is in fact a bug with the english translation, made this account just to explain how to fix it, spent about 2 hours today just diving into the games code to see what was going on, turns out the location for the bgm track title of yuki and mai were read from the wrong location, so it showed garbage text instead.

So, to fix this issue, open up the .hdi in your favorite hex editor (or get HxD if you dont have one, its free) and search for the following hex-value:

BA C4 50 C7

once you found it in the file, replace it with:

BA C4 EC 1D

that will fix the text of yuki's bgm.

For mai's bgm, simply search for the hex-value:

BA C4 71 C7

and replace it with:

BA C4 0A 1E

After that, just save the .hdi and now there should be no more glitching text once the stage 4 boss fight transitions over into the 2nd phase.

I hope somebody that searches for this bug will find this information useful someday.

edit:

well wow, actually call me stupid for even spending 2 hours on this, I just now realized whoever made these files originally created a corrupted hard drive image! In the original english patch, there IS data that responds to those "garbage" locations! It basically is the same data I redirected the game to with the hex-values above, not sure why those 2 names in particular are at the end of the executable again. The main game has no other parts corrupted to it, but I think the other files may do... So really, how did I not consider that before spending that time on it... And that folks is why you should never trust pre-patched files, who knows what other bugs this file may hold with that discovery, really you should make a installation yourself using the provided floppy drive images and then apply the english patch to it, probably will be less buggy that way, who knows what other issues are hiding in this .hdi that we did not even realize yet...

For what it's worth, the random death is actually not a patch bug; it's a ZUN bug! This is the "ghost cheeto" bug, only discovered recently. If you defeat Yuki or Mai during their combined fight while the aimed laser shot ("cheeto") is in effect, the attack will actually resume when you fight Shinki, because ZUN forgot to clear this data.

ZPS discovered this bug in 2018:

You can see a Jaimers replay from 2011 where they die to the ghost cheeto:

i've beaten alice on extra mode just earlier

onto the ending cinematic, everything went just fine....

until the "extra credit" where all touhou casts show up

the screen flooded by those white error (text?) message caused the emulator to softlock

several minutes later..... no sign reaching to the score registration so i ended up resetting it

luckily i always do screenshots after finishing normal games or extras
